Ok, first off, I'd like to find out where exactly the information came from before making any rash comments, for example, I just typed into google 'new doctor who movie' the first link that came up was this:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/3560184/Dr-Who-David-Tennant-in-talks-over-Dr-Who-film.html
an article dating from September '08 talking about Tennant possibly taking a film role for DW.
And a newer article that I found cites the same article as this one does as it's source, hmmm, fishy.
Anyway, in my opinion, Doctor Who is a British institution, relies of British thrills, humour and scares. Even though the 1996 Movie had cannonical Doctors played by British Actors the whole thing felt Americanised by being dramatic to the point of melodrama, was set in America (more of a final fronter for DW than even Skaro) and replace subtle scares for action. McGann is great of course, I'm not knocking that but it felt, somehow, wrong.
A good comparison is Daleks in Manhatten and the 1996 Movie in fact. Both set in America, both featuring a female doctor as the companion yet the exicution is totally different.
Ok, introducing Doctor Who to a wider audiance is fantastic, but it shouldn't be at the expence of the fans who love it how it is. And anyway, the latest series of DW seems to be a sucess in America, what more do they want?
Oh, and a plot where the Doctor cures deadly deseases probably isn't something I'd probably wanna watch, we want evil motivations to battle against, not evil microbes.
