"The long-time fans will not be disappointed because yes, the Daleks make an appearance."
Epic. Fail.

A brief plot synopsis suggests that the Doctor, along with a small team of "volunteers," will travel through time and space healing the sick of diseases brought by invading aliens. During the course of the movie, the Doctor cures the bubonic plague, and then heads to Africa to work on Ebola.
Is there some kind of time vortex sucking in articles from The Onion and depositing them in proper magazines?

This better be atleast 2hours and 30minutes long.if it's only an hour and a half then you'd be paying to see an episode of Doctor Who thats 1.5 times longer than usual.

As long as Tim Burton doesn't direct, this could be okay.
Depp is a good actor, but his overexposure with Burton is hurting his career.

Oy... Let's add this to the pile of "Johnny Depp to play Riddler" over in the corner... Next to "David Duchovny to play Bruce Banner."

I think a British actor should be cast, but it should really fit in with the timeline. The best area would the time war, it gives a fair bit of action for the audience and still make some sense.

Also if you had to re-cast someone for the 8th doctor to then regenerate to Ecceleston's doctor, I think someone like Hugh Laurie, he is known to American and British audiences and fits the bill excellently.

Ugh.

Johnny Depp would make a great Doctor, but this news stirrs something awful and horrid inside of me which I thought I wouldn't see again. This will shatter the canon of the show and that makes me want to strangle every child in a mile radius of me because its their fault somehow. I really don't see how this could be cannonical.

Not to mention that the big bad is gonna be the Daleks, again.
Don't know if he would be the best actor to play him, but I agree with your other thought. I don't know why, but the thought of another Doctor Who just.... creeps me out.

What if it was done up like the first X-files movie? The season ends with a bit of a cliffhanger, picksup in the film, then continues when the new season starts? Make the film accessible on its own but totally fit in within the series as a whole.

As for Johnny Depp as The Doctor, I think he could do it and do it well. He's affected an English-ish accent in a number of films and while I'm no expert he certainly sounded good to my ears. However, I feel I'd rather see whoever the current Doctor is (I haven't watched the newest season) or if he's out by season's end then use the film as a transitional piece to further introduce the newest incarnation of The Doctor.

Or just not muck around with the Who series at all and keep it on tv where it's doing just fine as it is.

...now what was it I'd heard about Torchwood coming back on the air?...

Come on i just got used to matt smith as the doctor. It took half the episodes he was in but i finally started loving the bow tie. And to throw that away with some half baked P.o.s. movie that isn't canonical to the show at the moment would be incredibly stupid. Plus depp can act but come on he sucks. He can have the zaniness of matt smith and the quirkiness of well all doctors but he SUCKS he would just ruin the part for me b/c well he just .... sucks!!!

That was very unexpected. A Dr Who film.
Let us hope it won't be a disaster like the last one. I think Depp is a good choice, he's a very versatile actor.
What was wrong with the last movie?
I was hoping for Tennant as well. He is still my favorite Doctor after all this time and his regeneration still sticks with me as memorable.

Still Depp had a decent British accent so I'll see where this goes...

NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOO!!!
This is terrible! There's just so many things in this that make me want to scream bloody murder.
This has to be a hoax, it just doesn't fit. None of it. And I seriously doubt the Johnny as the Doctor thing. They said that he would be involved not that he would play the doctor. Just let it be Matt Smith if they insist on doing this.

So basically having Johnny Depp instead of Matt Smith would be like getting this totally awesome toy (Smith). This toy is awesome. It's pretty much everything you like and you're having boatloads of fun with it. And so, you wish to just carry on playing.

But then someone decides, HEY, YOU NEED THIS TOY (Depp). Yes, technically it's shinier and has more buttons and kung-fu grip and whatever. But you don't really want it or need it. Still, everyone else is telling you to play with this damn toy, that doesn't even fit what you want it to do. You want your old toy back.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this other than no thank you, Johnny. Or RTD. Davies, you can go fuck with Torchwood as I'm considering that whole mess past S2 a wash. Moffat is doing lovely things with DW. I like that a series ended and I'm not wanting to commit suicide. I like feeling hopeful, that I'm going on adventures with the Doctor. Not that he's some sort of tortured vehicle for whatever angst you want to shove down our throats.

No. For the love of Doctor and all that is holy, no. First off, Tennant said some time ago that he was still interested in remaining connected to the franchise. If that's true, I could definitely see him playing the Doctor again if this movie were to happen. Second, Depp would be an excellent villain, but I doubt he could make a good Doctor or companion. Thirdly, Davies best bring in Barrowman to play Jack if he's in the movie.
