Oh sweet! I didn't mind the prequels. There were a few epic parts, namely Darth Maul, Battle Droids, Droidekas (seriously, pure awesome), Curroscant (sic), Jango Fett, Clone Army, Clone Wars, General Grievous, Mace Windu...

Yeah, lots of cool things actually. It's just the dialogue sometimes and some lame scenes that were obviously just made for the special effects.

If he learned from that, these could be epic. If it's even true. I hope it is.

Lucas sucks as a director, look at all the Star War movies he directed versus produced. He is perhaps the best producer ever and I hope he sticks to writing and directing.

I would love it if he let's his pal Spielberg direct. He had actually planned to have him direct Empire Strikes Back but a dispute with the Directors Guild prevented it.

YAY!

I was kinda hoping that Lucas would be dead before Star Wars VII came out, but assuming that he is a functional thinking human being he won't possibly make the same mistakes as the prequels. This actually won't be too bad.

I gotta make a kid soon so I can take him or her to this.

You assume much. Never underestimate the depths of incompetence people can sink to.

The farce is strong with Lucas.

Fact: The only way this could be awesome is if it's largely written and planned by anyone who ISN'T George Lucas. I've read a few books set in the expanded universe, the games range from average to excellent, hell, there are probably a few good fan-fics out there (bell curve theory says it must be so).

Maybe I'm wrong though. Maybe George Lucas CAN write a good Star Wars movie, if it really is set far in the future. Hell, he's the one who came up with Star Wars in the first place. Maybe it's time we give Mr. Lucas the second chance we never really gave him. He's still a great director, as evidenced by the original trilogy.

I dunno, it's just so hard to reconcile these two men. On the one hand, we have the man who dreamed up Star Wars and managed to make it happen. On the other, the man who made Jar-Jar Binks, midichlorians, pod racing, pointless scenes of pointless discussion of pointless politics... ye gods, I haven't gotten half-way through the first prequel. Okay, screw George Lucas, bring in somebody else. Bioware and Bethesda, R. A. Salvatore, Richard A. Knaak, anybody. Give me a few months, I could bang out a half-way decent screenplay.

While I've heard the eventual game plan was at one point to have three trilogies, I would doubt that work would start on a new Star Wars film so close to the television series.
Yeah it's been years and years since he said he wanted a prequel trilogy and a sequel trilogy.

I was still in School when I first heard him talk about it.

So this news is super duper late and not in any way surprising.

I remember hearing that the series was planned out as 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, even before The Phantom Menace came out. I always felt that Return of the Jedi left too many unanswered questions, and that the EU didn't answer them satisfactorily. Having 3 more movies seems right, even if Lucas can't be trusted to do them well.

And just like that, every Star Wars Novel is rendered completely non-canon.

Ha.
If he goes 1000 years into the future, that's largely unlikely.

However, if he
unkills Chewbacca
this might not suck after all.

Who am I kidding?

It's going to be really mediocre.

Personally, I'll just be playing The Force Unleashed 2 and The Old Republic, games that seem to be getting Star Wars right.

Meh.

I think the prequels get a lot of undue hate(except the first one, obviously) and they steadily got better. Even if this new trilogy sucks, the battles and CGI will still be entertaining.

No. No. NO.

Lucas, stop destroying everything I love about your series with mostly mediocre movies and let me enjoy the last sanctity of the Old Republic and the novels. PLEASE!

Kudos to you. Would have called it had someone not beaten me to confirming it.

It's not the first time rumors of a sequel trilogy have gone around, and frankly, I don't see it ever happening at this point. The six films we have are about the fall and redemption of Anakin. Sure, the EU may cover the rest of the universe, but to make another series of movies without focusing on a Skywalker at all, let alone Anakin?

I wouldn't bet on it.

I, personally, prefered the prequels. The only reason people were baisd against them, at least ai think, is because of the whole medichlorians thing because other then that they were pretty solid movies.
