I'd be happier if he decided to make the KOTOR games into movies... actually hold on its Lucas, so no, no I wouldn't.

Hows about giving Bioware a million million dollars, and asking them to do it in CGI?? Guaranteed to get the money back 10 fold.

Rumor: Lucas Planning New Star Wars Trilogy

It might finally be time to find out exactly what happened after Return of the Jedi, perhaps even centuries after, if rumors are to be believed.

George Lucas is reportedly getting ready to make three new Star Wars movies, set after the fall of the Empire. Not only that, but the new films will apparently not focus on anyone named Skywalker.

Movie website IESB [http://iesb.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=10291:iesb-exclusive-the-line-starts-hereagain-new-star-wars-movies-planned&catid=41:news&Itemid=71] cited an "ultra top-secret LucasFilm insider," who said that Lucas planned to release the first part of the new trilogy within two years after the 3D re-release of Return of the Jedi, which was expected to be sometime around 2015 or 2016. IESB drew parallels between the upcoming the upcoming re-releases and the Special Editions in the 90's, saying that Lucas planned to use the money generated from box office and DVD and Blu-Ray sales to fund the new movies, just as he'd done with the prequel trilogy.

The source also suggested that Lucas would deliberately leave a gap in the timeline, perhaps even as long as a thousand years, to give himself some freedom and not have to keep referring back to the previous movies. The source credits the success of the movie Avatar and the Clone Wars TV show as inspiring Lucas to create new material. LucasFilm has denied the rumor, but IESB said that that was to be expected and was adamant that their source was correct. IESB referenced its track record of LucasFilm scoops, and saying that it had been the first to break the news of Revenge of the Sith's PG-13 rating, as well the existence of a Star Wars TV show.

The less than stellar prequel trilogy left a bitter taste in everyone's mouth, but if these rumors are actually true, it could actually be wonderful news. A little room to maneuverer with the story might be just what Lucas needs to get his creative juices flowing again, and by going so far forward in the timeline, he won't interfere with the Expanded Universe content either. At the very least, a new Star Wars trilogy would likely have some cool lightsaber battles in it, and would let Lucas get back to telling stories about good triumphing over evil, which he seems to be quite good at, rather than a great hero's descent into villainy, which he's not so good at.

I might be one of the few people who actually enjoyed the prequels.

And when I say enjoyed, I do not think they are as good as the originals, just good entertainment.

Also I am not in any way thinking of the grown up Anakin which is a casting mistake so terrible it shakes the very foundations of reality. To me, he simply do not exist, and I refuse to let him become a part of my internal view of the Star Wars universe. I am curious to know what kind of drunkard madman actually hired him.

Other than that, and a big lack of Darth Maul I found the prequels to be quite decent. A lot of Yoda action, of which the fight scene with SaruJedi (I forget his name) was of epic enough proportions to rival mostly anything I have seen from Star Wars movies old and new.

George Lucas was never very creative. His first and only success was in his mildly interesting reworking of existing tropes into a semi-coherent world, packaged along with a decent - but simple - story that evolved over many years into something somewhere between solid and really goddamn good.

So what I think happened is that lightning struck, and his aforementioned reworking profoundly inspired the real creative geniuses around him in the development of the original films, and in that rare and beautiful collaborative process, something great was made.

Sadly, it was Lucas who reaped most of the praise and money, and it went to his head like you can't even start to believe. As a result he made - believing himself to be some kind of creative messiah - a whole shitload of shameless cash-ins, including the mind-bogglingly bad prequels.

He used his power to get rid of anyone who challenged his stupid ideas because his mistake was in mis-attributing the genius of the originals to himself. He's a straight up hack; sheer blind dumb luck was the only reason the first films were good and successful. Can you imagine if he'd had more control over the development of the originals, like he wanted from the beginning?

And that's my rant for the day. Feel free to tell me I haven't said anything new, because I haven't. Lucas just really pisses me off.

I'm torn. I'd hate to see the star wars series suffer another trilogy, but then I'd absolutely love to see RedLetterMedia explicitly explain why they're so bad.

What Lucas needs is to not look/touch/comment/influence the project in any way whatsoever... the 3 prequels were a complete CGI-saturated mess.

That or the team need to grow a spine and ignore/challenge him at every opportunity.

Doubt it. Plus, I don't really want this... make this EU or a game, or something.

Wasn't that basically the plot of the prequels?

I would like this, I'm one of the rare creatures that likes all the movies, i acctualy prefer the prequel trilogy to the original simply because i saw them first.

It would be good i think, it could possibly follow new characters instead of the Skywalker plot, which i think could be interesting...

Yu'zan Vong war anyone?

Nope. The Force Unleashed series is set between the two existing trilogies and fills the twenty or so year gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

Screw the 3d Re-re-re-release of the Original Trilogy, screw the prequels. If they actually have a decent plot to this, and don't let Lucas balls it up, it could be mighty fine.

I just don't want to wait Ten Fucking Years.

Why not use the expanded universe? The Thrawn trilogy from Timothy Zhan would make excellent movies if he helped write the script.

I could not disagree with you more if you had set my cats on fire.

We do not need another Star Wars anything. Lucas will still have the same problem he did before, which is he no longer has people like Gary Kurtz telling him "No, George, that's a stupid idea" to keep him from making bad decisions.

More to the point, does he actually have a story to tell? I kind of doubt it. This is just milking a tapped-dry franchise. Time to shoot it between the eyes and bury it. Bury it with a shovel and then bury the shovel.

Their is no right way to watch a movie Franchise. if i wanted to watch number 2 first, that is my choice. It was the first one that caught my attention and the movie that got me in to the rest of them.

I hadn't paid attention to the Starwars films till number 2, so i acctualy didn't know about ANY plot twist, i knew about Darth Vader (Who Doesn't?) but i didn't know he was Anakin till i saw Episode 4. which was a few month after i saw episode 2.

Sorry if me liking the prequel trilogy more than the original offended you, but it is MY choice.
