Listen up you primitive Orcish screwheads, this is my BOOMSTICK. It is a Daedric Double Barrel Top of the Line, does Paralyze and Fire 35 for 2 seconds on Strike, Has over 100 charges when full, and a hair trigger.

This sweet baby was made in the dark waters of Oblivion. It retails for around a few hundreds souls and you can find it by serving the Daedra.

Shop Dark... Shop Daedric Relic! You got that!!!

Now I swear, the next one of you green primates, even TOUCHES me... YAAaaaaaa!
Fucking. Awesome.

meh, i don't think it'll be that much different. Magic kind of eliminates the need for technology, so I don't see why guns should exist in the world of elder scrolls, though hopefully they don't because we've already got fallout 3 for that, and bows and spells have got oblivion's projectiles covered.

I do remember one of the final levels for the Fighters Guild, where you essentially destroy a machine used to make dope for the Black Marsh Mercaneries. Perhaps steam-punk esque technology is'nt as far off as some people think?

After all, i think going to steam punk would do the Elder Scroll's franchise some good, if it is too much like the old Oblivion then people will just think's it's a remake of that game.

By setting the game in a different setting you almost give the impression that it's a new game, this is reinforced by the long time gap between the release Elder Scrolls VI and V. I think Bethsada are really trying to avoid falling into the "crappy sequel" trap.

Steam Punk would be pretty cool, new clothes, hopefully better voice actors, new weapons and a new world to explore. You could keep the older weapons of oblivion, but also get newer weapon's like sabers, rifles, cannon's or possibly a gatling machine gun. The problem of a steam punk esque setting however would be the lack of armour, unless they decide to continue that anyway. I would'nt frown at a Rennisance setting Oblivion either, ok it may look a lot like Elder Scrolls 4, but the armour and weapon's would be different. I'll like to see the introduction of crossbows and halberds. Why could'nt we have crossbows in Elder Scrolls 4 anyway?

I'd be very much interested in a world where magic and modern technology coexisted (or were busy ripping each others' bollocks off) but meh. Muskets would be interesting. But as long as they improve animations, voice acting and AI i'll be happy.

I think that ES:5 would probably be set in Akavir, with them starting a war by taking advantage of the Oblivion crisis in Cyrodil, given what some NPCs seem to be foreshadowing.

If they're putting guns into the game, I'd like them to add Caster guns. I want a race that is totally unable to use magic, but can simulate the effects using Casters. Even better, I'd like a skill that lets you enchant on the fly. Also, weapons with regenerating charges.

Hell gimme some dwarves and lemme experiance their war. Or at least delve more into them then just small tidbits and little pieces about them. Its why I love TES because there is so much backstory to everything.

NO. No no no.

This a very bad idea. Elder scrolls does not need guns that is Fallout's niche not ES.

EDIT: for clarity. I believe that with that type of year gap they can't help but bring guns and shit into it and that is not good
The OP didn't say anything about guns. And besides, in a world full of magic, old style guns would seem alittle pointless.
why then use bows??
\
oh and ever played fable 2? it works trust me
If we are talking muskets, bows would be better because they have a much faster reload time.

If we are talking spell casters, bows are better because they require no cast time and are otherwise silent and perfect for assassination.

If we are talking rick roll, bows are better because they actually kill the entire person instead of merely their innocence.

How did this become all about guns?

Its been Four Eras people.

[HEADING=1]That's 4000 years[/HEADING]

6000 if you count the Dawn and Merethic eras

There will be no guns!

Infact the Dunmer dont even make an effort to utilise the technology the Dwemer leave behind. In short i would be surprised if they incorporate any steampunk elements in TES5 at all.and upset.
Actually, in Tribunal/Morrowind, it's shown that Sortha Sil (sp?) had expanded on Dwemer technology to build a clockwork city under Mournehold, and the other members of the Tribunal knew about it. I'd like to see that come into play, with the Dunmer houses, or at least one of them, trying to rise to dominance using that technology. That, and fighting robot dinosaurs along side royal guards was awesome.
Considering how poorly that turned out for everyone involved, what with the Dunmer disappearing off the face of Nirn and Sotha Sil getting...disconnected by Almalexia, it wouldn't surprise me if that were used as the logical reason why nobody on Tamriel wants to mess around with steampunk elements.

Also Reklore, Oblivion was set approximately five or six years after the events of Morrowind, not 200. The would-be Nerevarine arrives in 3E427 and Uriel VII gets a Mythic Dawn gift basket in 3E433 (source [http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Third_Era]). I say "five or six" because the player spends a fair bit of time between showing up on the boat and whacking Dagoth Ur...sometimes a LOT of time, if like me the player isn't in any terrible hurry to beat the game.

Hey, if Bethesda just learns how to animate my character running diagonally this time, I will embrace it wholeheartedly. Evin if the game is centered around riding sheep on the moon and the only weapon is a gun that shoots underwear.
Dude that would be fucking awesome

All that I care about is whether or not the game will still be a FANTASY game...if they have guns, I won't play it

Civillisation in the Elder Scrolls universe has stagnated, they need to move forward. Not talking about guns or hover-cars or jive talking robots. But maybe they could have nicer looking houses, better weapons materials (Morrowind Tribunal introduced Adamantium [Adamantite sounds lame]). They have crystal balls ingame, why not use them for communication or like a TV or something.

Its as if they are trying to maintain an almost Amish lifestyle.

Sounds good IF they keep guns out of it. How about seeing the evolution of society instead of just technology. Maybe cyrodill can be governed differently.

This would be great.....They could build of Arcanum ideas....Steam technology and Magic co-exist.
