If I was an 8 year old, I'd hate you forever.
That was the age I found out. My curiosity called me into the living room, where I caught my parents putting presents under the tree.
I think they took it worse than I did. Plus, I'd always ask questions about how Santa knew what I wanted and how he made the trip so fast. I don't think I ever truly believed, but I really wanted to.

My house doesn't have a fireplace, so from the beginning the Santa story was treated as being pretty malleable. I always assumed he came in through the ventilation.

Yes, a bit like this.

I was never told Santa exists... I found out about Santa at school, but when I came home I asked my dad he said there's no such thing... the same with the Easter bunny...<.<

Yup, thought I'd just ruin it for some of you believers, yup, he doesn't exist, you've been lied to, it's one big money making scheme to swindle you of your precious cash.

Apart from that, when did you find out Santa didn't exist and what sort of spin on the theme did your parents give to you to ensure you believed it as long as you did? :)

I was always baffled as to how he came down our chimney...we didn't have one :/
NOOOO!!!!!! THE HORROR!!!

OT: The facade ended when my mom told me so I could help her with getting all the X-mas presents under the tree that night. Wasn't a big shock to me. True, took away some of the magic of the holiday as a little kid (relatively speaking. Hate to admit I was about 10).

I found out...man I don't really remember. I know I found out pretty late, which is really sad that I believed it so long.

The chimney thing, my parents always said they left the front door unlocked so Santa could come in.

I didn't care when I heard. Nothing changed except I didn't have to waste time writing a letter each year. Still got presents, just from a different source.

My very own little Hypothesis on this topic:

Assuming Santa is
1. the embodiment of the Christmas spirit (sharing, charity, love, faith)
and
2. only exists as long as people believe in him,
taking in account the mindset of a crushing majority of mankind it is very likely that he does
not exist (any more).

My personal opinion: Never lose faith in a good idea no matter how unlikely it is to be true.

First time I cried and my Mum said "No he is real."

Then years later I found out in my OWN TIME! which everyone should. Unless they're like 15 or something, but surely they would have known by then.

I can't even remember not knowing he didn't exist. I was probably one of 'those' kids who told everyone else and acted smug about it.
It never really bothered me though because the idea of my parents spending money to get me presents made me a lot happier than magical old elf people would have.

Just now.

You fucker.

But yeah, it didn't come upon me as a sudden epiphany, it just set in somewhere between the age of 10 and 12. Maturity, both physical and emotional, isn't as spontaneous for everyone :D

I found out there was no Santa after my parents accidentally taped themselves putting the gifts under the tree. They accidentally left the video camera from when they were recording our (as in my brother and me) anticipation.

There was nothing they could say after that to convince me otherwise.

I always sort of knew but played into it for the fun of it, I still enjoy the holiday season and the 'let's not be a big dick to random people' spirit it inspires.

But for the most part I feel parents should push the idea of Saint Nicholas and Krampus.

Long live Krampus, he beats naughty children!

Was told right off the bat that he doesn't exist.

Still decided to mess around a bit at home one night. Wore suitably fireproof clothing painted red and white, got a likewise fireproof bag containing a good deal of presents (non-fragile/not going to be harmed by heat, all resilient stuff) and went outside. Climbed up the roof (fifteen metres, seriously, Shadow of the Colossus has nothing on old Japanese houses) and jumped down the chimney. Being skinny is rather helpful there, if counterproductive to the general image.

And, yes, arrived in the living room with a cry of "I come bearing gratuitously wrapped material wealth! ALSO I AM ON FIRE HELP."

Okay, so I wasn't actually on fire despite my claims. Walked out and was perfectly fine. That said, it was fun.

Ahh I had nagging feeling he wasn't real since first grade, then a year or two after that I: 1) Saw a Dennis Leary stand up show were he was talking about how stupid kids were for believing in Santa(Or something)2) Stayed up to see if he was right, heard my parents talking. Was disappointed for a while but I keep up the charade for a few years after that and basically told my parents I knew he didn't exist but they still act like he does. Doesn't bother me, still get to spend time with them and get free stuff.
