I'm sorry your daughters friend had to go through that shit, and the fact that your daughter has to live with it.Enrathi said:Sad to say, but yes.CardinalPiggles said:I wouldn't mind being called Dovahkiin, as long as I got to play all those lovely games too.
Also, is bullying still a major issue? I'm pretty sure you only get isolated incidents of physical bullying nowadays, and I live in south east London! it can be pretty rough.

My (step) daughter knew this girl. They would hang out and play when she was visiting her father. Very tragic and I just really don't know what else to say about it.
OT: Kids are going to bully for any reason, the name won't matter.
One night...SidingWithTheEnemy said:My thoughts exactly. Imagine how the parents will regret that name when they can't sleep because of little Dovahkiin crying all night and improving his Thu'um.TheAceTheOne said:[...]
He can just shout them away, right?
FOOS-ROH!
im going to guess he has a middle name and will go by that.albinoterrorist said:Yeah, the bullying as a kid and the weird looks whenever he does anything official (job appliactions, legal documents, passport control, bank accounts, etc.) for the rest of his life is really gonna be a whale of a time.hazabaza1 said:Luckiest.
Child.
Ever.
I'm so jealous.
Why make his first name Dovahkiin?
It was just to name the kid it. Not necessarily the first name. You could have made any of his middle names it..
But now, he is Dovahkiin.
Thanks alot, mom and dad.
And one day they will find her deep undergroud and Dovahkiin will walk out saying, "She had phat loot"Jedoro said:Now they need to find a child named Lydia who will swear to carry his burdens.
I'll swap him! My name is Tom, he can have it.Veldt Falsetto said:He's more than likely gonna be known as Tom anyway seeing as Dovahkiin is just Dragonborn. It's like a title like Doctor or something, think of it that way and it's awesome!
I agree.DireFrog said:Guys. Guys. This can be used for his advantage.
"Dad, why did you call me Dovahkiin?"
"Son, we named you after a brave hero. I learnt this story from a game around 5 years ago. He started from humble beginnings, in the long lost land of Skyrim. And, it was only near his death, that he realized his own fate..."
Dad then tell him the story of Skyrim, Happy End included. Little Dovah goes to school.
"Docahkiin? What sort of name is that?"
"It means "Dragonborn". It was the name of a great hero!" Dovah tells enquirer the epic story of the Dragonborn.
Hell, any name can be used by kids to make fun of other kids. And if not their names, the things they say or do. It would happen anyway. Dovah's just gotta pull through it. We all have to.
I don't think the bullying is important. The reasoning behind the name and the attitude of his parents is a worse problem.SteelStallion said:Wait, what is with the bully posts? Why would he be bullied?
By the time he gets to kindergarden, 4-5 years will have passed. 4-5 year olds don't play Skyrim and they'll think it's a Serbian name or something. "Dovahkiin" is exotic, but it isn't something like naming your kid "Megatron" or "Darth Vader".
When he gets to Elementary school, kids still won't be playing Skyrim. I doubt people in grades 2-6 would play an old RPG they'll probably never have heard of.
When he gets to Highschool, Skyrim will be so far behind him that only a few hardcore RPG enthusiasts/nerds will give him a wink or a nudge and talk about how cool it is. While everyone else just knows him as "That kid who sounds like he's from Serbia". I don't see any of the logic you guys are presenting, he's not going to be bullied at all.
Furthermore, people criticizing the parents think they're doing this for the free swag. They're not, they're probably doing it because they're diehard fans.
It's no different than having a video game themed wedding or investing geek culture into any other part of your life. Although this is a bit extreme.
THIS! I feel horrible for him when he hits school. Well on the bright side he can shoout the bully off a mountian.albinoterrorist said:Yeah, the bullying as a kid and the weird looks whenever he does anything official (job appliactions, legal documents, passport control, bank accounts, etc.) for the rest of his life is really gonna be a whale of a time.hazabaza1 said:Luckiest.
