i was playing Mirrors' Edge, when i decided that i was hating it, but i still carried on to the end, just to see it through, even though i was hating it
I'll raise you one - I tortured myself through that shitpile excuse for a game, absolutely hating every single moment of atrocious writing, boring bland design and bad controls.
That should be enough for me to say STG, right? Noooo, I *HAD* to borrow it at the local library four months later, just because A. I wanted to see if there actually were any redeeming features I had missed and B. It was a dirt cheap fee for a one week rental.
I TRIED to see every point of view there was, I even fought and won 34 out of 44 achievements INCLUDING "Test of Faith" - the majority I'm missing are the Beat Levels In Par Times. Gave up on that after doing a close to perfect run on stage 1 and beating par with 4 seconds. That was after thirty failed tries. I did and beat some of those absolutely unforgiving time trials, I discovered the hidden moves and shortcuts and basically did everything anyone can be expected to do to find a smidgeon of enjoyment.
It. Is. Simply. Not. There.
I still hate Mirror's Edge, and even MORE now when I know EXACTLY how shallow and limited it is. Free-roaming city, my ass. It has about as many usable alternate routes as your average 16-bit platformer. Sure, you CAN go another way, but there are dead-ends everywhere.
I am now in a position to say it with finality and whimless insight: SCREW THAT GAME.
(I say the same about the almost equally lousy Assassin's Creed - but that opinion is far more common.)
