There was Super Mario Galaxy. After getting 120 stars as Mario, I got 70 as Luigi, and said, "Screw it, this is pointless."
There's also some SRPGs that's this is happened to me on, like Disgaea DS (Baal is a level WHAT now? My dudes are Lv. 120! I'm not grinding to 5000!)
Valkyrie Profile for the DS pulled the stunt of having the final boss being the only enemy able to attack all of my dudes at once, AND the ability to stun, AND having 70,000+ HP when my guys bearly break 5,000. Not to mention that it's a multi-stage battle, and there's no opportunity to grind, I'm supposed to wing it. Screw this, I don't care enough about the plot to see the end.
I played Fire Emblem DS, and finished it on normal difficulty. I tried the hardest difficulty and quit when my paladin was dispatched by a Lv. 3 Thief. Handily.
