Force Unleashed. Might not be much of a spoiler, most people see this coming, but as a formality:
Just gone through the Darth Vader-boss, then almost did Darth Sidious, and suddenly the entire thing blacks out. I start it up, and I have to start from scratch with Dart Vader. Never played it since.

I have had this happen. I was playing GTA: Vice City again out of boredom awhile back for a total change because my brother had borrowed my console and a few of my games. And I had just got everything back. So I was re-playing all the missions in the game and I got about 2 hours into the game and it froze or something and I lost all of it. I just wanted to throw the controller across the room when it happened. I said 'screw this' to it for a few weeks before picking it up again.

I've had than moment in many games. More recently Madworld, which doesn't have a checkpoint system for whatever reason.

I was fighting Frank in the castle, and I was just about to beat him, 1 hit away, and I died. I had to restart the entire fucking level.
pissed me off.

I have those moments at least once during every Counter-Strike: Source session.
You mean like when you get instant killed in the very begining of a round and then have to sit and watch the rest of the round as two campers sit and wait for eachother in opposite ends of the map?
That shit happens to me so many times.
Hate it with a passion.

Dead Rising. I died, and lost 1 to 2 hours of play, and haven't touched it since.
I didn't know what to say in this thread, but you remembered me of probably the biggest "screw you" moment in gaming I've ever encountered. I lost far more hours of play though.

I'm going to get right to the point.

Have you ever had a "Screw This Game" moment?

I just had mine. Playing Far Cry 2, which for some reason dosen't have an auto-save feature. I did a lot of missions, went to a bus stop, and the game crashes. Easily an hour of progress lost. "Whatever", I thought. I should have saved, my bad. I start the game up again and do a couple of the missions. "Aha! I've learned my lesson, I'll save".

The game freezes in the menu screen.

On a sidenote, should I keep playing Far Cry 2, or should I just give up?

EDIT: Thanks for all the responses, I decided to push trough with Far Cry 2, but then, it can go fuck itself.
My "Screw This Game" moment? Easy, same game... That s****y Far Cry 2... but I can save you the energy of slogging through the endless suicidal jeeps, instaspawn checkpoints, and mentally handicapped AI as I suffered through this boring s**t storm for you. Here is the pointless identical "multiple-endings" of this equally pointless snorefest. Save yourself the time, toss it now, as it is definitely not worth the effort, there is a long list of a hell of a lot better games out there.

The only reason I sticked with the game was because I found the Jackal compelling.

Thank you for saving me hours of torture.

Uninstall.

Red Ninja, the final level. There was some kind of timed sequence of jumping puzzles while you chase a boss over some rooftops and he attacks you while you try to avoid soldiers on the ground, or something... the camera is crap, it's usually guesswork figuring out where you can jump and wallrun and such, and yeah, I had just had enough. Shoddy controls, crap camera and a severe lack of checkpoints are some of the game's major flaws.
I'd kept telling myself, "the weapon is cool and I've made it this far, why not play it through to the end?" but then I thought instead, "yes, I wasted good money on this crap, but why am I wasting good time, too? I have better things to play, and if I didn't, I could find something else to do!" I haven't played it since.

Glad I could help, at least I didn't suffer for nothing. To save one from this boring fate is reward enough. Hope you can return it or at least sell it.
Burning is the only treatment it deserves.

That same thing happened to me, and I said "You know what? Fuck this game!" and quit.

RE 5 on professional. I had just gotten past chapter 5 and the game froze before it could auto-save. I almost threw my controller at the T.V. Needless to say that was my biggest "Screw This Game" moment that month.

this is going back quite a ways, but ...

South Park 64. so disappointed. the multiplayer was ok (throwing yellow snowballs and the terrence & philip fart dolls was fun, even though some of the characters were cheap), but what killed it was the story mode.

the main game was kinda boring, but my brother & i played through it, and enjoyed it pretty well. until the last boss. GOD IN HEAVEN DOES ACCLAIM HAVE NO SHAME?!

first, you have to--HAVE TO--use god mode (or whatever they called it) to stand a chance against him.

second, every weapon except the terrence & philip dolls did almost no damage.

third, THE BOSS CAN RECHARGE HIS HEALTH ENDLESSLY!! and the only way to stop him is to shoot a button beside his charging station which interrupts the signal, but since the dolls--OR YOUR BARE FUCKING HANDS--can't push the button, you have to switch to a gun, get within shooting distance of the button, fire until he stops trying to recharge, switch back to the dolls, bomb the shit out of him, and repeat the whole process over again! WHY?!?!?!

and what are the chances you'd have enough ammo or bombs to beat this asshole without cheat codes? it's like the final level of soldier of fortune: you face a gunship with 18 gatling gun turrets pointed directly at you while enemies come out from rooms you can't enter yourself, PLUS you still have to beat the main villain, Whatsisface. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME???!!

anyways, enough of that. i'ma go have a nap. nice thread, man

It can indeed go fuck itself. I don't know what possessed me to get the accursed thing. I'm surprised at the reviews it got. Also, the disparity between user reviews and professional ones
someone getting paid off to give a positive review just to fellate the developers? hell, they do that with movies and music all the time; why would videogames be any different?

Yes! Finally someone else who played that pus spewing boil of a game... my friend I feel your pain.

That whole game was a total fuck you, the controls and camera were just completely broken. The Buddha temple was an absolute fucking nightmare when it should have a super fun POP style platform section.

The bit you're talking about took me a very long time... the spiky rooftop part was especially frustrating.

If you ever pick it up again you should know that the final level (including its bosses) is even worse.

It's happened to me a few times, the most memorable was with Ninja Gaiden. After several hours and many, many deaths I managed to kill these 3 lizard things but before I could enjoy my victory the real boss appears and kills me.. it was at this point I said "fuck this!" and haven't bothered with the game again.

My first "screw this game" moment would be playing The Thing on PS2.

I just have no fucking clue what I'm supposed to be doing, or how I do it, or why. Plus it's a ***** to get from place to place in the antarctic tundra.

My latest would be playing a rented version of God of War. Rather than explaining it, I made a video based around this calamity. Only the first minute or so is for God of War. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZXZZeRGgJE

X3: Reunion more than once and for mostly the same reason. Spend a couple of hours trading stuff to build up my bank account without docking to autosave then either slam into a station or asteroid or get blown up by pirates.

A couple of hours worth of good trading shot in the ass and no way to go back do it again because the results won't be the same. Sometimes it ends up being my fault because I forget how long it's been since I've saved and I go off the deep end and do something stupid like attack a capital ship in my puny fighter and die from one shot.
