Well I thought the games sucked, but after reading this article it turns out I'm wrong. If sega says that the games are good than that must mean they're right. Look at all of their recent successes such as Sonic and the Black Knight and Sonic Unleashed. In fact I will go and purchase all of them right now.\sarcasm

Really Sega, really? That's certainly a good way to get more fans. Tell them that they're so good that they don't understand them.

. Speaking to Eurogamer, Sonic Team's Takashi Iizuka stated that the real reason Sonic games haven't been well-received is because fans of the original games expect something different than the newer, 3D titles can deliver.

According to Iizuka, "Sonic is all about the speed and the platforming. It just comes down to how the gameplay differs when you're playing in 3D and 2D side-scrolling.

"Those fans are not positive towards the recent 3D Sonic games because we've been releasing only 3D Sonic games in the past couple of years. It's hard to please both 2D and 3D fans at the same time, in the same title for instance."

Are they trying to say that the graphics of the games are making the games suck? That we don't want a good 3d sonic game just because they will look different.

Well Sega and Sonic team I want you to do a little experiment with me to test this theory.
Next time you take a Dump, take a picture of your turd. After this step your have a 2d turd, and a 3d turd (it could be 4d I guess since you can touch it,but that doesn't change my point). Now other then the picture not smelling like it,their both SHIT.

Now I too like the older 2D side-scrolling sonic, but it was the fact it made sense not that it was in 2d. One of the more obvious things is......Well...this guy already said it.

Hey SEGA, and Sonic team, too. You say that I, as a Sonic fan, have the wrong expectations about your past ten years of Sonic games?

What, exactly, was I supposed to expect when in Sonic and the Secret Rings, the first new Sonic title released on the Wii...

*deep breath*

YOU HAD ME DRIVING SONIC LIKE A FUCKING CAR?!?

I was actually hoping they would do a game like the daytime sections of sonic unleashed,
I LOVED them on the wii...
...
...only to be sadly forced to play the nightime sections and the storybook crap inbetween

I think that Sega's problem is that theyre trying to add story to it,
the best part about the 2Dgames was that there was little-no story involved, just "badguy here to distroy forest, go kick his ass with your asskicking might. and BTW, these gems make people stronger, get all 8"
and then they tried to add story too it, and look what we got with a sonic game that was nothing but story:
Shadow the Hedghog*
and we all know how THAT turned out...

*id like th record to show that I actually LIKED Shadow the Hedgehog, but it IS one of the only games where I skipped all the cutscenes

Why do they even bother saying anything? They cater to a fanbase who thinks boycotting a franchise equals buying the older games of the same series en-masse. When dealing with an audience *that* thick all you'd need to do is remake all the old titles with the same mechanics in place.

Yeah that's right. Sonic 06 didn't suck because of the bad camera, horrible controls, the tons of glitches and the overall lack of time they spent ironing the game out! It's because the fans are used to something different, I'm sure.

Well, I noticed that the sonic games started getting bad once they renamed "Dr. Robotnik" to "Eggman." So maybe Sega should go ahead and rectify that first. =D
To be argumentative "Eggman" was his original name. For some reason when the series was brought over to America they saw fit to change the name to "Robotnik". It wasn't until, what SA2 that they found a way to fix that discrepancy.
Yeah, I know that one brother. Just making an observational joke. Sometimes I forget the internet is a serious place.

anyone else think the title of this article is putting sega in a negative light? this actually sounds reasonable to me.
I've never played any of the original Sonic games and I can say without a doubt the new Sonic games suck. Sega consistently makes terrible Sonic games and everyone knows that.

I never liked a Sega game anyways...
This post really got my goat...So, what you're trying to say is even if you played a game and enjoyed it, then found out it was a sega game, you'd immediately hate it?

OT: Yeah, Sonic isnt really suited to 3D, aside from the Sonic Adventure series but I agree with what the japanese bloke said i.e fans of the 2D games are expecting EXACTLY the same things out of the 3D games, which due to Sonics speed, they just cant deliver. Its not a case of the fanbase (myself included) doesnt understand them, its a case of they want the old style back to just Sonic, Tails, Robotnik and 2D.
But, then again I know the haters will continue to hate Sonic and agree with every bloody thing that comes out of Yahtzees mouth like mindless sheep
Nope, I never judge a game for it's publisher/developer. It's just that I never enjoyed a Sega game, maybe because I am too used to the PC, which I think it's the primary cause, but also I never understood why they are so famous, why people like it, etc.

I simply haven't liked Sega's games, just like all Bethesda's games (and yes I have played them). Simple as that. But I'll respect everyone's liking anyways...

Well crud. I'm usually better at picking out when people are joking. Whoops. It's a bit tough to pick out jokes and sarcasm on the net.

I played a newer 3D sonic game first and found it horrible and was then convinced to play an older 2 D one by my friend and It was much better So you can't pull that one on me.

Nope, Sonic made a clunky transition to 3D and instead of learning from those mistakes and making things better, SEGA falls into the same pitfalls as they always do.

Then again, I will admit that I am biased, I've never really liked Sonic as a character- just seems like an annoying prick with too much of that "attitude" that SEGA gave him cos they thought kids would like that or something.
