Didn't Bioware manage to make a good DS Sonic game?

Or was that one not in 3D. Haven't played it, but I've heard it was actually pretty good.

Well, I noticed that the sonic games started getting bad once they renamed "Dr. Robotnik" to "Eggman." So maybe Sega should go ahead and rectify that first. =D
To be argumentative "Eggman" was his original name. For some reason when the series was brought over to America they saw fit to change the name to "Robotnik". It wasn't until, what SA2 that they found a way to fix that discrepancy.
That's something they could stand to change back. Eggman might work in the original Japanese but in America it doesn't translate well. It makes him a laughing stock which I don't think was the original intent of the character. I remember ol' Ivo Robotnik seeming at least somewhat menacing when I was a kid, especially in the TV show. Change the name and a lot of that would have been lost.

It was also an RPG so no matter how good or bad it was it can't be compared to other entries in the series.

Sega knows how to make a good 3D Sonic. They did it twice. They were moving in the right direction with Heroes, even if that game needed more playtesting. What happened? I don't even have a problem with extra gameplay modes in a Sonic game but it needs to be compelling otherwise it just highlights the lack of the speed the series is known for.

Yeah, it must be our fault. It isn't that every single one of the 3D Sonic games has had some stupid mechanic, piece of script or just general gimmick.

the last sonic game i properly played was sonic heros on Xbox, the maps were made almost entirely of bottomless pits and pipes! it was just cheap! the whole game probably had enough stable floor to make a pac man board, and enough pipes to match a snake thats eaten two billion apples! it was as if theyd given up while "constructing" the maps and said "screw it, just sell it like it is now!"

Sega wouldn't be Sega without this:

They took two years to localize Yakuza 2, never made another Shenmue game after the second one, continue to pump out horrible Sonic games and rarely give their good IPs the attention they deserve (where is my next-gen Shinobi sequel?)
Hey, their next-gen Golden Axe was pretty bad...I'd love if Shinobi actually got a good sequel, but knowing that it probably won't, I'll let them slide for that one, lol.

his "old glory" is the only reason he's still on the shelves! if he's started out like he is now he'd be less popular than blinx the time sweeper!

Nobody would mind a 3D sonic game if it were ALL like the daytime levels in Unleashed or the Sonic levels from Adventures 1/2, and it didn't have any characters but Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Robotnik, Amy, and MAXIMUM TWO outside characters, that were one-offs, and written at a 5th grade level at least. And knock it off with the humans other than Robotnik, Robotnik used to be some kind of symbol of the negative side of technology and human interference with nature. Even if the only reason he was the only human you ever saw in the old games was to avoid drawing too many sprites, it was something the fans interpreted and made the Sonic universe unique. Now it seems like there are hundreds of (awful) Sonic characters, but they're still rarities mixed in with the regular human population. It's very different and weird, makes them seem like freaks of nature. It doesn't help that everybody liked the Sonic characters a lot more when they didn't talk.

Then again, I will admit that I am biased, I've never really liked Sonic as a character- just seems like an annoying prick with too much of that "attitude" that SEGA gave him cos they thought kids would like that or something.
i do agree, but i gotta admit, he was HILARIOUS in the kids show "sonic the hedgehog" (in a "make-fun-able kind of way)

"Sonic Games Don't Suck, You Just Don't Understand Them"

If a vast majority of the gaming world doesn't understand what makes your game great, it seems like there are distinct design issues present.

You know... The kind of design issues that lead to the branding of "suck" and not "good".

Really? First Microsoft, and now Sega?

Honestly, if one more company tells me that my expectations are "wrong" then I'm gonna make idle threats that I have no way of actually following up on! :p

As I have said before, you don't tell the people who made you popular in the first place that THEY are the ones who are wrong. It's not like people waste tons of money on these games to see how much they suck. Millions of people cannot adjust around a game because the developers want them to. However, one good game should have no problem adjusting itself to millions of people. The latter approach will end up pleasing people far more often than the former approach, I think Sega would find (if they actually started caring about the quality of their 3D Sonic Games.

Remember the Adventure series? Those weren't half bad, and proved that 3D has the capacity to be good. Why can't Sega expand upon games like those?

I have new respect for SEGA.

Such a response is what I'd expect out of an art primadonna, "plebeians! You cannot understand my vision!"

Hey, it's a more interesting response than out of a lot of the big name game companies, "games = money, so eat mediocre tried-and-true design."

I really have to disagree with all the haters of the Sonic franchise.
It is because you don't give the games enough of a chance and go in with an open mind that you immediately put them all off as bad. I'm not that big of a fan of the series but I know I enjoyed the games.
Every game offers a new method of using Sonic's abilities, the same way with Mario.
Maybe it's time for you to quit ranting about the games if you don't give them a chance to prove themselves.
I already know i'll receive a lot of messages over this but trust me I'm not going to view a single one because I know how they'll turn out.
