@Fragrance: The Grimoire is more to counter things like Splinterfright, Dearly Departed or dredgers, rather than bring my own creatures back. I would, of course, discard creatures to use it.

Disciple of Griselbrand and Lashwrithe seem pretty good together, especially if I have a larger amount of land in play. That pair could also be used to gain life during combat by sacrificing the Germ token after it blocks or is blocked, and then I'm free to throw the empty Lashwrithe on something that can get past an opponent's defenses or block something else later on, like Sangromancer or the other fliers.

It's a shame I don't have any black proliferate spells apart from a single Spread the Sickness. If I wanted to expand into counters and proliferation, I could take Carnifex Demon and maybe scrounge up a Contagion Engine... on that note, I could go green/black and take Melira to stop the Carnifex from weakening my own creatures.
Wait. Does Melira prevent Carnifex Demon from having counters on it when it comes into play?

@CA I think Tezzeret's Gambit is pretty good if you need some proliferate and it can be played in any color. Melira would prevent counters from being placed on Carnifax demon, so your combo would work if you played the demon and then played Melira. I think Contagion Engine is better for what you're trying to do though.
