Tiger & Bunny.

Its a series where mutants are given corporate sponsors so they can compete in a reality show to determine the "King of Heroes."

Puella Magi Madoka Magica. It's a magical girl anime that's a lot darker than your average magical girl anime, but it's very, very good.

Also, I recently just finish both Kino's Journey and Mushishi, both of which are great and I highly recommend. Both are very similar to each other as they are both episodic animes revolving one or two main characters traveling and all the people they encounter. If you've seen one I highly suggest seeing the other as well.

As for an Anime that isn't totally subjective, I'd say Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. That's pretty much awesome personified into an anime.

Calumon: The one with me? :3
+1 to Digimon Tamers and Gurren Lagann. Gurren Lagann pretty much is awesome personified into an anime, just like FLCL is silliness personified into an anime.

I'll just share 1 anime: Zero no Tsukaima. Do you like tsunderes? Of course you do, even if you think you don't :D

Edit: +1 to Darker than Black as well, its so good ^_^
Darker Than Black es #1 en Brazil!
I wonder how Cybersix is regarded in Brazil. I don't know how well relations are between Brazil and Argentina, but a good comic and anime coming from South America is still pretty sweet.

I present you the anime, Samurai 7-
It's no surpise that is bare the same name to Akira Kurosawa film as the anime itself is a rendition to his work well another take on that film.
As you can see it got giant mechs and it sort of got a fuzion of olden style with future punk in it (well during the city area) but don't let that put that off as that cgi battle between the mechs only happen at the start of episode 1 only.
Also one of the thing i liked about this series is that they portray the samurai as if they were superhuman (if you see the trailer that samurai slice those mech as if they were made of butter) which happen alot in the series.

Baccano!

With immortal gangsters and two of the best homicidal psychopaths i've ever seen it is sure to entertain! Plus if you generally prefer anime dubbed then this is one of the best english dubs around.

Also Ladd Russo is the best character in anything. Ever.
(Warning this clip is slightly spoilery and EXTREMELY violent!]

The manga is the only shounen manga I've ever finished completely (retail not a scanlation) and while it gets kinda stupid and over the top at the end it is still way better than all the other main stream shounen crap these days (yea I'm talking about Naruto, Bleach and what not)

Two OVA's where made with each 3 episodes (one in 1991 and one in 1995) covering only a tiny part of the manga (which has 40 volumes and was started in 1987). And while this does not sound very promising I still like these shows very much.

A recent attempt to revitalize the series in a full blown anime TV show failed to my regret.
Changes to in the Japanese law apparently made it unprofitable to produce the show as it would include too much gore and nudity (mind you there is no sex... from what I can remember...) for the high profit after noon spots...
Well better no show than some crappy pussy cut. That way it will live on in my thought as the most badass show that was never produced...

Tsuritama, for various reasons. First off, the intro:

Just...so good.

Plus the actual plot is great; I mean, fishing, aliens and FISHING ALIENS?! Awesome. Plus it's relatively short, so you can watch it while trying to find another anime to watch after! It's perfect!

Anyone gonna bring up Gosick? It's a very nice, well made anime with a Gothic theme and hints of mystery.

You might want to change the topic title otherwise people are just going to come in here spewing their favourite titles as opposed to hidden gems of titles that few have ever really...

Wait, never mind, already happened.

OT:

Fuujin Monogatari - a slightly strange character design, but an endearing slice-of-life/fantasy series.

Angel Links - the companion series to Outlaw Star and its rather whimsical counterpart.

Chihayafuru - an interesting look at a dying traditional game.
yea....too much mainstream anime, and new releases too. Idk if these are obscure enough but here goes:

Angel Beats - afterlife story that really gets you emotionally attached to the characters. Great ending too.

Umineko no naku koro ni (when seagulls cry, i think) - It's a really odd mystery anime that I just loved when I watched it through all 3 times.

FLCL / Furi Kuri / Fooly Cooly - Quite possibly the most hilarious, most random, most awesome anime out there

Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom - just check it out. I can't really describe it

Cybersix is a fantastic series, considering the time it was made in and the content involved. I admit I have not read the original comic, but the Canadian/France/Japan collaboration was great. I loved the art design, and the Zorro like qualities of their take on superheros. Also, Hose is hilarious.

I'll recommend Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade. Directed by the guy who did Ghost in the Shell. That should give you a good idea of what to expect. Excellent cinematography and sound design, and the low key alternate reality setting was bleakly fascinating.

Gantz, too bad the anime is so short and has a filler ending though, but that just hooks the manga into a must after you see that crazy shit.

Also, don't think too many people know about Chrome Shelled Regios, Shakugan no Shana is pretty sweet, I think all the other ones I know have a somewhat large following, but those are the most obscure-ish ones I can think of off the top of my head.

I was going to rebuke you on mentioning those three, since loads of other folks around here spew their love for them... especially FLCL, which I think is great and wacky, but not all that much to write home about.

And for a moment, I thought of Requiem from the Darkness when I read that last title... and that's another one I'd recommend, which not that many people have watched... thriller/horror (albeit rather light) and veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery stylised.

My definition of obscure is non mainstream. Just because we may see a following of certain obscure anime here doesn't mean they aren't obscure. If I go out to the anime clubs I have been a part of, only the oldest(time wise, not age wise) members have seen or heard of these 4 before.

Persona 4: The Animation -Great anime on it's own, greater anime if you've played the game all the way through

Gurren Lagann -Manliest anime ever. The only two words I can use to describe it would be explosion porn.

Baccano! or Durarara! -Awesome characters working their way through unique scenarios from their own point of views. Baccano! is a classic.

Angel Beats -Action, sadness, and hilarity are some of the words I'll use to describe this show. The final episode really got my heart strings.

A lot of mine have been taken already, so I'm going to have to go with Toradora! It's the only high school/slice of life anime I've ever seen that I actually like. The characters are just so amazing, no stereotypes or moe. They're all so human, and the ending is very satisfying. It might be a bit slow to start, but I guarantee you will not regret seeing it through.

That's fair enough... though I can't really latch onto a definition of 'mainstream' except by airing slots in Japan (which I'm generally ignorant of), so the only marker I have to go on is frequency of mention in this place. Not the best indicator, perhaps, but my one (considering how few of my friends watch much anime these days...). *shrug*

Mushishi

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mushishi

It's a bunch of little stories with the only things connecting them being the main character and an overall theme (mushi).
I like it because it doesn't have a giant overarching plot, which will eventually determine the fate of the world.
It's just a bunch of small "feel good" stories.

Because it?s made by the same guy who made serial experiments lain, and it?s every bit as crazy and even more fucked up then that show .

Also haibane renmei
I cant really explain why that show is any good.......... but my god is the show amazing
It looks like my suggestions have been taken...<.<

But seriously I second all of these... especially Serial Experiments Lain...
first 3 episodes are on Youtube too... officially from Funimation... who picked up the rights to it and are planning a Blu Ray Rerelease... so you don't have to spend $400 on the original Blu ray release like I did...<.<

I beg to differ the Tsundere is a sterotype...

Besides the guys who made Toradora! afaik also made Shakugan no Shana and Zero no Tsukaima and guess who the the love interest is?

Gunparade March:

12 Episode anime show based on a video game.
Not great but decent. Got some good drama moments in there which I like.

Basically some high-school students have to fight poisonous bug aliens in old style mechs.

Eh, I'll agree with that, but I was more referring to the individual characters. I could not watch Clanaad all the way through because the characters were so dull and so moe, and I felt like I'd seen them all before. But with Toradora, I was actually interested in the characters. And it didn't need a weird, pseudo/sci-fi subplot to keep it going. What happens in the show is a direct cause of their characters, that is what I like to see in an anime.
