This is already receiving too much hype. Most likely you won't be able to get the bad ending unless you actually intend to do so. Just look at ME2; the only way Shepard could die was 1. Disregard all ship upgrades
2. Not recruiting enough squad mates
3. Ignoring everyone's loyalty missions
4. Fuck up the squad placement in the final mission
= You have to kill all your squadmates for Shepard to die.
or
Not having any genre savvy and seducing the Asari killer-sexbot.

Most choices in ME games have never mattered apart from the occasional "YOU ARE OUR SAVIOR" or "YOU HUMAN DICKHEAD!" you get from various NPCs anyways.
This. Unless the required chain of events is randomised, any tension derived from the possibility of failure is lost once the combination is known.

Way to ruin the surprise, Bioware. What idiot thought it was a good idea to reveal such a twist?

Bitter defeat..... It is a taste I am unfamiliar with, it's a taste I don't like. No worries though, I'll give the reapers a run for their money and blast a few of them doing it. Come what may I will not be cowed into submission, nor will I waver over vague threats and muddy prophesies of my impending loss and demise.

I have to agree with this statement.
Don't get me wrong, i like the ME franchise a lot for various reasons. But halfassed "bad endings" you really only are able to see if you try to as hard as you can is not one of them.

You know what I'd love? If failure is the result of trying to make *absolutely everybody* happy. "Do my quest!" "Solve my problem!" "Submit to this unnecessary and farcical hoop-jumping detour!"

If you don't tell some of these people to fuck off, you run out of time and boom, end of the world.

THAT would be SWEET.

Just so long as win isn't pick the blue text and top option at every opportunity or stick to one path and middle grounders get screwed.

I hope i made the right choices over the years...

here are my most important decisions:

SPOILERS:

ME1:
Rachni Queen: Alive--Hopefully a massive attack/defense force to aid us against reapers
Wrex: Alive--Hopeful Krogan allegiance against Reapers.
Bring Down the Sky: Extremist Dead, Girl sacrificed--Hopefully he wont hinder the war with the reapers.
Council: Saved--Can't wait to see Turian Counsellors Facepalm when Reapers come. also, the alternative council in 2 sounds even more stubborn and biased against Shepard, so i always save them now.

ME2:
All Squad Members: Alive--maximum allies for ME3.
Aria T'Loak: Ally...i hope. potential to rally-up the mercs/Omega against Reapers in 3?
Mordin Loyalty Mission: Research Data Saved, potential aid to Mordins research in 3?
Tali: Not Exiled--Hopeful Quarian-Geth Relations with Legion in 3?
Quarian Admiralty: suggested not doing War with Geth--hopeful Quarian-Geth Relations in 3?
Legion Loyalty Mission: Geth re-converted to "true" Geth--Hopeful Geth allegiance in 3?
Wrex: Leading Tuchanka, allied to Shepard--Hopeful Genophage cure/Krogan allegiance?
Shadow Broker DLC: I have yet to do this mission. Control of S.B.'s resources and data to provide counter-intel. against Reapers.
Collector Station: Destroyed--it is reaper tech after all, maybe they'd be able to turn it against Cerberus in 3?
Arrival: I have yet to do this mission...Destruction of Mass Relay is necessary--Reaper advantage unacceptable.

Did i miss anything? any alternate viewpoints anyone?
Nope. I did everything like you. I really hope that Bioware doesn´t screw us over and say "You´re a naive **** and the Reapers are gonna steamroll you"
That... Would... Suck.

Technically you could always "lose" in Mass Effect. Since there was no in-game respawn mechanic, like say in Bioshock, every time you died and got the "Critical Failure" was that universe being doomed without Shepard.

I expect failure will not be so much whether you make the right decisions, but whether you have a loyal team or whatever they do in Mass Effect 3. Remember in Mass Effect 2 it was possible to die, but only if you let practically everyone in your team die along the way. And that meant keeping everyone non-loyal, not upgrading your ship, and making a few bad decisions.
Who should hack the door? Grunt!

Somehow, I get the feeling that if I go out of the way to get the bad ending, I'll hate it and it'll piss me off. It'll be a long extended scene as the Reapers destroy, pillage, and kill the galaxy. So, I'll probably hate watching them win. And that's how it should be.

Also, anyone who won't finish a trilogy of amazing games because of a downloading service is an idiot(Unless you own an Xbox or *PS3). I haven't had a single problem with Origin on ME1 or ME2.

*Although PS3 users still won't be getting the full experience, so it's still a little stupid to sacrifice ME1 just so you can't use Origin.
No, i'm afraid its the opposite.

Anyone who signs away their right to privacy to play a game is the derogatory term you used.

Origin is not just a digital distribution software. It is invasive spyware that you install and sign away your right to privacy to use.
NO!!! NOT MY FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC WALLPAPERS!!!

If you hate spyware, why are you on the internet? Everything and everyone does this, whether it be with or without your permission. Steam does it, and sure you can say "But they asked me!". Well you still said yes.

Honestly, I'm not even surprised they did this, I knew what I was signing up for and I took that risk of them invading privacy that was probably already compromised and not even that important.

You act like they'll steal your social security number and find where you live in order to assassinate you.

I act like they'll "steal" info about what kind of PC I use in order to talk to third-party companies about what to do about increased performance.

I just want to see what happens since I cheated on Ashley with Tali, especially since they're squadmates.

Tali: "Ashley, Friendly Fire!"
Ashley: "That wasn't friendly fire..."
*Both start fighting*
Garrus: "I think we have more important things to do."
*Giant reaper out of no where"
*Galaxy explodes*

i want to see liara and jack fight:) that alone could end the reaper threat

SPOILER: Shepard can lose in every Mass Effect game.

In fact, add up the number of times people worldwide have finished the game, divide by the number of times "CRITICAL MISSION FAILURE" happened, and you have some real world stats on how often Shepard actually succeeds.

That sounds awesome. I had a feeling they would include a losing ending. In fact, I would've been disappointed if they hadn't included a bad ending where the Reapers win.

My guess is failure would be having too many different races refusing to join forces (ex: having the Quarians and Geth go to war, pissing off the Batarians in Arrival, etc.)

Eh, I used Lair of the Shadow Broker to tell Liara what I was doing with Tali. I'm fine. I hope.

Why would you announce this? Kinda ruins the whole possible surprise...

And it's not like this is the first game to ever do this, you could "lose" in the Dead Money DLC for Fallout: New Vegas, and I'm pretty sure there are other games.

I'm definitely gonna have to lose once. It just sounds so epic. The galaxy is prepared and fights the Reapers with everything it's got, only to still be defeated in the end. Really, I think they should make victory really, really difficult to achieve and most endings should have you fail.
I'd agree with this. You should have to think and plan carefully, maybe even have to sacrifice several favourite team members, in order to beat the Reapers. If you approach it too casually, or try to keep everyone alive, you should almost certainly fail.

I'd love to see Shepard have to choose between saving the galaxy or saving Tali, for instance. It'd be especially good if the game chose someone randomly from your whole team right at the start who would have to die sometime during the game in order to win at the end, so you wouldn't know for most of the game who it would be but when you found out couldn't just load an earlier save and change it.

I like the possibility of failing, I would have loved to screw up in Fallout New Vegas so the Courier does not become a 'Kingmaker' for whatever faction he chooses.

EDIT:

Shepard: Garrus! Garrus! We need your help right now or the Galaxy will be destroyed by the reapers!

Garrus: Can it wait a bit? I'm in the middle of some calibrations.

I actually restarted ME2 when I found out that Ashley was a squadmate in ME3, not mention the fact that she's a Spectre now. I think she would shove Shepard's new glowing stabbymashit straight up my south end if she found out!
But.. but that will hurt D:

I don't really care for Ashley as much as I used to as she was angry that I didn't call her while I was floating through space in a thousand pieces.

I see the mother of all ***** fights in you're ME future. Take pictures! ;)
It will be much more epic than the mere and puny battle between the humans and Reapers! :)
