The very first second after the game starts, you're given a dialogue wheel with choices.

Five out of six of those choices get Shepard instantly killed in some entertaining way.

Wait, you NEED Origin to play this?

Screw that -.- looks like i'm missing out on this one.
Dude, all you need to do is buy the game, wait for maybe a week, and install the no-origin crack that's bound to come out. Works.

That would be awesome.

My Shepard has bigger things to worry about than saving the galaxy! Like what Ashley will do to him when she finds out what he's been doing with Miranda!
Eh, I used Lair of the Shadow Broker to tell Liara what I was doing with Tali. I'm fine. I hope.
It would be wise of you to sleep with one eye open from now on.

BTW, what did she say to that?

I honestly can't say I'm surprised by this. I mean considering Shepard could die at the end of ME2, it's only reasonable to assume you can screw up at the end of ME3 as well. The only thing I'm hoping for is that there is no bias towards being a Paragon player to a Renegade player when it comes to your chances of winning. Or vice versa for that matter.

It will probably be like Mass Effect 2 where you actively have to sabotage yourself get the worse ending. It would be an interesting youtube video though.

As long as it doesn't go down like this:
"What will you do, Shepard? Option 1 or 2? Choose wisely."
> Option 1.
"Oh no you failed to save the universe!"
... reload...
> Option 2.
"Hurrah! You win!"

Bitter defeat..... It is a taste I am unfamiliar with, it's a taste I don't like. No worries though, I'll give the reapers a run for their money and blast a few of them doing it. Come what may I will not be cowed into submission, nor will I waver over vague threats and muddy prophesies of my impending loss and demise.
I agree with that. I don't want every good choice I made throughout the franchise to flipped upside down and destroyed, I made literally every good choice as soon as I got it. Paragon interrupts, charms, etc.

Wait, will it be like ME2, where you had to kind of work for the bad ending?
Like purposely do everything wrong or skip missions in order to get the horrible ending?

BioWare has let slip that one of the possible endings in Mass Effect 3 is that Commander Shepard can fail to stop the Reapers, thus dooming the Earth, and the entire galaxy.

And it's not like this is the first game to ever do this, you could "lose" in the Dead Money DLC for Fallout: New Vegas, and I'm pretty sure there are other games.
I know. You lost the moment you downloaded it

HEYOO!!! UP TOP!

Ah, cynicism purged for the day.
What cynicism?

ME2 you didn't even get whole story without buying 3 separate DLC! Wanna bet the number will be higher than 3 for ME3? :)
Don't be absurd. Lair of the Shadow Broker, Overlord and Arrival had about as much to do with the main story of Mass Effect 2 as Fallout: New Vegas's. Hell, Overlord was almost entirely irrelevant. It wasn't as if there were big holes in the main story that you couldn't figure out until you installed all three DLCs. You might as well declare that Broken Steel meant that Bethesda never gave you the full story for Fallout 3.

I didn't "Love" it, but I thought it was ok.

I was moreso going off the fact that a lot of NV fans don't like it.

Slighty Science Fiction...? How is Mass Effect 'slightly' Science Fiction?

Are you seriously saying that this sort of thing is the most 'out there' thing in the Mass Effect universe?
It was out there all along, but consistent. Most good SciFi is consistent tho.

But when a holo-UI became a "visceral stabbing weapon" ... I'm outta there. BTW, did you hear about HuttaBall?
They had holographic robots that shot bullets at bad guys in two. Isn't that the same/worse?

Upon reading this article i have learned that achieving this ending in the game shall have it's "candy coated" description cast aside and be known to all as:

The Bad Ending!

Really that's exactly what i see that scenario as since it's just the simple "bad end" you achieve when you fail to stop something in a game or do something horrible that the game warned you to stop/stay way from.

I'm failing to see how this is news. I've played a lot of games where you can lose. Its called losing. You die and get a game over screen. Most games I play these days have that happen. You then start again from your last save and don't fuck it up.
That isn't what this is, this is when you scrape your way through the game, only to reach an end cutscene that lets you know that your efforts were so puny that the reapers won anyway.
Yes, because you failed. Getting a failure condition is still a pretty standard thing. Unless its talking about you failing because of a decision you made 3 hours ago. Then thats probably one of the biggest dick moves I've ever heard.
Ever played King's Quest 5? What you weren't fast enough to save the rat, you ate the pie when you got hungry, didn't feed the eagle, didn't get the crystal, and you saved a few screens later? Too bad, your starting over.

Alrighty, time to get this thread back on topic. Its about the fact that they are putting actual fail in the 3rd game, NOT about how much the pc whiners hate Origin.

I think its excellent. I've never really dug it when a game has basically the same ending whether the character is a shining example of everything good, or a nasty dickhead. I cant wait to see how all the choices play out in ME3. It will be nice to see something other than minor changes in dialogue take place for different decisions for once.

The only way this can work is if you have the potential to succeed up until the very end. If there's a choice you can make 3 hours in that totally dooms you no matter what, then it's just annoying and cheap. I think that choices should make end-game victory more difficult, but right up until the last second, it should be feasibly possible to win, even if it's so monstrously difficult that only the elite players will be able to do it.
