...but Kingdom of the Crystal Skull wasn't even bad. Every complaint I hear about it either has to do with the aliens or with LaBeouf; the latter's performance wasn't even all that bad, compared to how he did in Transformers (but even in that case, I think Bay is more to blame than anyone).

Call it blasphemy or whatever, but I always thought that asides from its quotability, The Temple of Doom was worse by far.

He's a decent guy.

Why the fuck are people making this such a big deal. Yeah he plaigerized, but can we stop treating him like Joseph Stalin?

This article shows too much hate against Labeouf. He did really well in Disturbia and Holes, both movies that I can appreciate time and time again.
Oh yeah, Holes was great. Loved that film. And I won't dislike it for having Shire LeBufallo in it, because he performed his role well.

I think most people's issue is that since he got this side of puberty, he's turned into an arrogant, fame-warped shit and has the bad habit of going with big paying projects that are widely regarded as butchering source material.

And as a writer,[footnote]one of the few times I can say this without sounding pretentious.[/footnote] I find plagiarism really fucking disgusting, so yeah, that bothers me immensely.

Oh come on, the guy's not a bad actor. His last few movies haven't been great, but I for one liked Holes, Disturbia, and as a kid I always enjoyed Even Stevens. Plus, he was in I, Robot, don't forget that. Hopefully this will be the start of a few year break, and he'll come back in a few years ready to take on some better roles and show his full potential, because it's clear to me at least that he has it.

I don't really understand his defenders. A decent guy? Someone who only gets hate because of the hate for his movies? (Is Clowes at least allowed to hate him, or is doubting his sainthood not even allowed for him?)

The only way Shia can come out of this as anything other but a total douche at this point is if him and Daniel Clowes come out together and say "Surprise, we were just trolling".

Since the film-making community sees him as a fraud and a pariah, the length of his retirement will be dependent upon directors and producers being willing to associate themselves with him.

He may not be the scourge of humanity, but I hope his Hollywood career remains in ashes. He can find an ordinary job like the rest of us and live a comfortable life, just so long as the rest of the world/internet doesn't have to hear about it.

He's been in some awful movies. But there's evidence that, properly directed, he's not a terrible actor.

It's a pity he seems to have become kind of a self-indulgent jerk who thinks being called out for his bad behavior is an "attack on his artistic integrity".

Fortunately, guys like Joseph Gordon-Levitt seem to imply that course isn't inevitable for young stars.

Firstly: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is by no means the worst Indiana Jones movie. That dubious honor goes to Temple of Doom in an opinion so humble that you would go "Hey, that opinion is super humble!" (Although I do still hope that they will eventually make a 'Fate of Atlantis' movie. Wasn't it known as "the movie that was never made" at the time of release?)

Secondly: Will people start saying that Shia LaBeouf copied Phil Fish? If only to give the bear one last prod of the stick before getting bored, winter is setting in and hibernation has just about started so no matter how hard you prod that darn bear won't wake up? Analogies. I've got them in Spades!

He is a decent actor who got sucked into bad high-profile movies. Compared to other former child actors the man is a genius.

His co-stars typically hate him because of his attitude on set. Harrison Ford once called him a "fucking idiot."
You forgot to mention why Ford said that about him. He's too stupid to not bad mouth the movie that just came out and is still in it's most profitable time frame. In this case it was Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but still anyone should know better that to talk shit about the product your company is trying to sell, especially if your in the limelight a lot. He is basically an ass like you said and should have been shown the door at least once like what happened to Lindsey Lohan. Maybe instead of becoming a Hollywood addict, he could learn some humility.

If only more of these idiots and attention whores would just drop out of sight, maybe people will stop seeing movies, watching tv shows and buying songs that are utter shit except for the star power that has this voodoo ability to make the exec's wallets bigger. Imagine a world where only the good Tyler Perry movies exist, Jersey Shore was a pilot episode that literally ended with real life nuclear strike to prevent the contamination spreading, no shirts saying Team Edward with the sparkly corpse of Cedric Diggory emblazoned upon it, pop music would still have actual bands (with talent) in it, and Justin Bieber would be someone you might hear about if your spent enough time in Canada. Too bad there's plenty of other idiots who feed these attention whores. (OH HAI, paparazzi and everyone into that junk.)

The actor best known for Indiana Jones and Transformers claims he is "retiring from all public life".
Thing is the public more or less retired him already. Think it's funny how he's going out on such a low note, starring in a porn, ripping off another guy's work. Just another promising young actor throwing himself away because despite his success he could help being a piece of shit to people.

You've made your millions, so don't let the door hit you, "Mutt".

I think my problem with him is that he thinks he is a better actor than he actually is. Can he act? Well if Megan Fox or Kristen Stewart are setting the bar, then yes, he can act.

But stealing other peoples work and passing it off on his own, that's a different kind of talent. One that gets you black balled. I wonder how many people will hire him for their projects knowing that the Internet exists and doesn't forget.

Okay so he stole work and people called him out on it. And he calls that "an attack on his artistic integrity".

Buddy, you fucked up. Move on.

Ah, quit the hyperbolic editorial drama, Steven. The newest Indiana Jones film was not that bad. -___-
I don't get the hate for The Last Crusade either, but that was a long time ago and I think before Shia's career. I don't know what it has to do with this conversation. >.>
Woah woah woah, back up there, there's hate for Last Crusade? I get (but don't agree with) hate for Crystal Skull, and I can tolerate (but, again, don't agree with) hate for Temple of Doom, but Last Crusade? Last goddamn Crusade? With the interesting character dynamics, old friends returning, the fights on speedboats and a tank, and Sean motherfucking Connery? How...I don't...are these people from bizarro world or something? Last Crusade is the best one!

Anyway. Ahem. Back on topic.
I don't think Shia is that bad of an actor when he's trying (see: Holes, Disturbia) but a lot of his roles he's either phoning it in or is vastly outclassed by the talent around him. The idiocy in plagiarised your apologies for plagiarising something though? Yeah, no excuse there I'm afraid. Have at him internet

I had the exact same though, and I'll see your yaaaay with my own yaaaay.

... it's okay, I'm ironically plagiarizing you.

Anyway. I'm concerned this is not nearly as 'retired from public life' as we actually want, but I'll take any victories in these cases, no matter how small.

Maybe instead of 'retiring from public life' he could just go back to being an actor: you know, the thing he's known for.

I've never seen any evidence that he's bad at acting. He just happens to have been in some unpopular movies[footnote]Crystal Skull wasn't that bad guys, seriously.[/footnote]

Not that I'm a fan of the guy, but this article seems a bit too spiteful for no reason.

LaBeouf is obviously throwing a tantrum here, but what francises has he poisoned that weren't already poisoned from the start? It's not like Transformers and Crystal Skull wouldn't be piles of shit without him. I think we got the directors/producers/scriptwritters to blame on that one.
