Skirt Kept Peach Out of New Super Mario Brothers

So apparently the people that made New Super Mario Bros Wii never played Super Mario Bros 2...

They did it in SMB2....why not now!?

Drawing a new 16x32 2D sprite with 16 frames at the most is a hell of a lot easier than rendering, animating, and skinning a 3D model, and rewriting the physics engine to handle flowing gowns.

That said, I still don't buy it.

Actual reason: If Princess Peach was playable, she couldn't be kidnapped. Then Nintendo would have to come up with a new storyline...which I guess is a lot of work.

She was playable in Super Mario Bros. 2, and that game turned out okay.

in my opinion, she was never really that good of playable character

She can take three hits for each of Mario's, if SPP is to be believed...

She could always have had her sports outfit.

also, why wasn't this issue so key in Super Mario 2? where you could play Peach with all her dressy goodness... Surely recreating what she did in that game couldn't be so hard...

have her walk about, let her hover(even if it is cheap...) and just have the story be:
"Mario, Luigi, Toad and Peach all took a nice little stroll over several life-threatening zones just to kick the shit out of Bowser for being such a prick, THE END."

Id play that game.
Though, im guessing that there is going to be a lot of "new" content in the game that would make it extremely hard to program peach's dress for each and every thing.
