She was playable in Super Mario Bros. 2, and that game turned out okay.
I actually thought she was the best character in that game. Peach could float! That ruled.

I'm not really upset about it, it's not like I was going to buy the game anyway; I'm just a bit more disappointed in Nintendo. The fact that they removed a character because some extra code needed to be written is shameful. They should have at least tried to get away with recycling the code from SSBB.

The kidnapping of Princess Peach is a huge part of the franchise. A Mario game where Peach doesn't get kidnapped isn't a Mario game. Imagine Star Wars with no jedi or lightsabers and you get my point.

Yea, but it would be more enjoyable than. Peach kidnapped. In another castle. Beat Bowser. Save her. End.

At least Super Mario Sunshine and Partners in Time, did a good job of getting away with it.
The journey is more important than the destination and the Mario games prove that. You know you are supposed to save Peach but if the repetitiveness of the task detracts from your enjoyment you are thinking too much.

Or, I dunno, put her in pants? Juuuuuuust a thought.
Orrrrr...pink gym shorts with a pink crop top like in Smash Football
or a pink tank top and pink shorts like in Mario Golf
or keep the dress and give her floaty powers like in Super Mario Bros 2.
or give her the spandex bikers suit from Mario Kart Wii

Ya know...not like I'm not obsessive about these things(?)
And I tought I was gonna be smart by remembering (just) the Strikers outfit.
Well, I wasn't going to mention the black and pink number she has when possessed in Paper Mario :)

That's a horribly lame reason to leave a character out. Most companies bust their ass to get a gameplay element to work never the less a character to work. This reasoning just sounds lazy.

Super Mario Bros 2?
Which actually wasn't a Mario game
I am confused. How so?
(If it's pedantic, then call it Super Mario USA or Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, if it's due to it being originally a Doki Doki Panic game, then you could site Super Mario Advance or Super Mario Allstars, which were Nintendo remakes)

Even after all that, Dr Mario, or any of the Race/Sport games, don't have her kidnapped?

So they're trying to keep it child safe with the dress, but they don't mind joking about it. Remember the shower scene in Thousand Year Door?

Yeah. You make her take a shower. You control her and are forced to make her take a shower to advance the game. And even after you've advanced it, you can do it again.

Who thought THAT was a good idea?

In my youth I saw the Princess go to Earth for a Mili Vanili concert wearing jeans (even in her leisure time she likes subjecting herself to pain I guess). So it's not like she doesn't have the wardrobe.

Well that is pretty lazy Nintendo. Not putting Peach in, who was pretty cool in "Super Mario Brothers 2" in this latest reincarnation of the Mario franchise because it would be difficult to script her skirt? Jeez, you might as well just remake the same pointy-eared adventurer rescuing the princess or the female mercenary killing off aliens...Wait a sec...

Or, get rid of the guys, and add more princess like Daisy, someones new, maybe Birdo, and they all use the same Skirt Physics.

That's stupid. Just giver her the same abilities. It never seemed to stop cramming her into any of the other games.
There's a difference between games like Smash Bros which has 30 other characters who all have some strange physics to them that needs to be tweaked, so what's one more gonna hurt, and a game like Mario Bros Wii where it seems silly to add a single new character who's going to basically double the amount of programming that needs to go into the playable characters.

Oh but you know gamers. People would just complain about her not being in her normal attire and would STILL argue that "it's a dumb reason" when the whole "dress physics" thing was explained to them, and then we'd be stuck in this boat either way.

Oh come on.

That has to be one of the worst excuses I have ever heard. Just tell us we can't play as her because she needs to serve to roll of the damsel in distress. At least don't lie to us.

If Waluigi was in it I would definitely play as him. He's one of the worst characters in the series, and I like him for it.

"I thought it'd be nice to have her as a playable character, but the toad characters had a similar physique to a Mario character than Peach does. And if one of the four had a dress, we'd have to come up with a special programming to handle how the skirt is handled in the gameplay, and that's really the only reason why Peach isn't playable (laughs)."
"This game is using all of the Wii's processing power so we can't incorporate online"

"Peach's skirt would require too much programming to add her as a character"

Are you fucking kidding me? This game will make millions upon millions of dollars. Too much programming for such a successful franchise? If the Super Mario Bros. 2 had Peach, there's no reason the Wii can't.

When I read the title, I thought maybe then that the game would have a different premise other than "rescue the princess" and would therefore be slightly more interesting. Then I saw "playable character" and realized I was being stupid.

As odd as this is, it won't stop me from giving this game a shot.

Yeah I don't buy this. As much as I respect Miyamoto's work I think he's making crap up here.
