You could say that about literally every video game ever created. In this thread there's not even scores mentioned or anything like that. It's not even filled with fanboys. It's just OP making a really weak case against a game compared to what we've seen. I would tend to agree with you usually, because fanboys do rage out about that stuff, but The Escapist community seems to have the most tame of fanboys (unlike Destructoid, IGN or Gamespot) who can be reasoned with. This is just a bad original argument being called out as such.00slash00 said:well to be clear i wasnt specifically talking about this, but in general. many times i have seen people get pissed off about reviews because a game they were looking forward to didnt get a perfect scoreAzrealMaximillion said:People aren't because they love the game (which isn't even out bee-tee-dubz). What makes me shake my head is the fact that OP has stated in this thread that they though their use of the word 'outdated' was short sighted to myself, and been caught mixing around their arguments by other people in this thread.spartan231490 said:Glad to see someone beat me to making that correction. The OPs points were incredibly vague, poorly argued, and don't really mesh with the gameplay trailers that have been released, not to mention being obviously inflammatory. Also, humans love a good debate, and we love an argument even more.AzrealMaximillion said:People aren't because they love the game (which isn't even out bee-tee-dubz). ehh im not sure the fanboys here are as rational as you say, at least not in my experience. but i agree they arent quite as bad as those that ive seen elsewhere. also, scores are something that needs to go away forever. most people seem to place more value in the score a game got, than in what the reviewer actually said about the game. personally i dont think his arguments were that weak. he expressed his disappointment with the game and provided reasons for why he was disappointed. granted, most of those reasons will probably be patched away but the fact that people who hadnt even played the game called him a troll for criticizing skyrim is just absurdAzrealMaximillion said:You could say that about literally every video game ever created. LOL, looks like someone takes their video games very seriousley.bussinroundz said:Sea - "Clear scripting awkwardness when the player deviates from the predetermined path, with the "leader" NPCs apparently teleporting around to avoid the player actually taking initiative and ruining their precious intro sequence. Yeah, take that goddamn Stormcloaks, because the first thing I do when a dragon attacks for the first time in centuries is start fighting with my rival faction for no goddamn reason. HARDCORE
Skyrim is "everything you wanted and more" because it has slow-motion kill animations and "amazing" graphics.
This leveling system is fucking absurd.
No tradeoffs whatsoever, only linear upgrades.
No special new abilities to unlock.
Leveling itself is performed on a giant star chart which takes forever to pan around and can only display a single perk at one time. But dude, it looks fucking awesome!!1
Just like Oblivion, a huge-ass tutorial dungeon and lengthy scripted, nose-dragging sequences await you. I mean, why take a page from Morrowind and integrate tutorials into the gameplay by gradually introducing new concepts and mechanics as they become relevant to the story, when you can just put up a bunch of giant text prompts and waste an hour of the player's time in the event he or she already knows how to play the game? Once again New Bethesda proves it knows absolutely fuck-all about game design and how to adequately use the open world it's created in intelligent ways.
I can't watch any fucking more of this. At first it was like a train wreck with that initial leaked video, then it was like watching a freak show, kind of a silent shock and awe at such a perversion of nature, and now it's just goddamn depressing to let it all sink in. Every single time Bethesda can introduce a plot point, mechanic or character, they do it in the absolutely worst, most amateurish way possible. Every single new addition reeks of prioritizing visuals and "awesomeness" over actual functionality, control, or gameplay. Long-standing problems in the series are left completely untouched in favor of superficial bullshit. I honestly have no fucking words for not just how pathetic this is.
Bethesda is a studio full of talentless hacks, PR men, morons, con-artists, and frauds. They have no claim to seniority, no claim to industry leadership, and no claim to design expertise or even competence. That anyone - other than their artists and audio guys - gets paid, hell, got fucking hired in the first place, is an insult to the human race."
What fucking game have you been playing? Your Skyrim doesn't have ragdolls, glitchy animations and dumb physics? Give me your copy.Heimir said:Only part OP got right was the conversation animations being dull. Other than that. Troll. He's wrong on basicly everything, thank the 8.
And now I'm calling troll on you. You have not played the game. FFS there's even people here agreeing with me.Heimir said:Yer a troll thats full of shit. Ive not had any probs with ragdolls, haven't had any glitchy animations nor any dumb physics. Crawl back under your bridge please.Duffeknol said:What fucking game have you been playing? *clears throat*Duffeknol said:FINAL EDIT: Well guys, the game is out. All you skeptics and troll callers can now suck it. The animation of everyone except the protagonist is indeed as bad as I told you. Their movement is awkward, and they constantly run into walls and into each other. I lost count of how many times either me or my conversational partner have been shoved aside by another NPC. They turn around as slowly as I told you. They glitch and bob up and down stairs. The combat animations are still dry and dull, and they only they added are finishing moves (that don't even look spectacular thanks to ancient rag dolls). Does this make it a bad game? No, it still doesn't. Was I right about my criticism? Yes. I will now accept your written apologies.
And yet the one universal critique I've been hearing everywhere (including these forums) is how the game basically feels like Fallout 3, ESPECIALLY the characters. Seriously, browse a few Skyrim threads and you'll see that I'm by far not the only person who thinks this.nuba km said:*clears throat*Duffeknol said:FINAL EDIT: Well guys, the game is out. WRONG! I didn't like oblivion that much but I love skyrim want to know why, it has wight to it's actions, bodies don't go flying like ragdoll (except for chain lightning and certain finishing moves), nearly 30 hours of playing and only 1 glitch, decent character animations, no soulless conversations (they still star at you the entire time though it is not nearly as creepy), the combat is thousands of times better (I hated the combat in oblivion I love skyrims combat). Also they even improved the difficult enemies so they aren't impossible at lower levels but just require more planning.
in short I don't know what version of skyrim you have been playing but it certainly isn't what me my friends, and everyone I have talked to on xbox live has been playing.
can you give me a link to people on threads comparing it to fallout 3 because I can't find any person on the escapist saying it's like fallout 3, also that will not end up convincing me that skyrim has all those problems you have been talking about as me, my friends and about a dozen other people I have talked to about this game say otherwise.Duffeknol said:And yet the one universal critique I've been hearing everywhere (including these forums) is how the game basically feels like Fallout 3, ESPECIALLY the characters.
