Skyrim PC Requirements Revealed

So I've got a laptop with intel i3 processor, 4 gigs of RAM and Nvidia GT 325M, how well do you guys think I could run it? It seems to meet the requirements but I'm skeptical because it could only run Fallout New Vegas on low-medium settings.

Nice attitude, I take it you have something against progress? Did you write similar complaints when Sony released the PS3 or Microsoft the 360? Hardware changes, DX9 is outdated. Deal with it.

Well, Sony made money off selling PS3s AND off the games. Same with Microsoft and the 360. So it was to their advantage to encourage people to switch to newer consoles. Bethesda doesn't get much of anything out of pushing people to upgrade, and it loses a portion of the market.

Skyrim is using a new engine, and thank god to that. The Gamebyro engine is one of the worst pieces of shit ever released and this one will most likely follow it in its footsteps(in true Bethesda fashion).

That's a fair point and to a certain extent I agree, however clinging to outdated hard- or software out of fear of losing a portion of any market will inevitably lead to stagnation. You don't see studios optimizing games for Windows 2000 anymore either, know what I mean?

1. This is true of every single steamworks game.
2. Steam isn't resource-heavy, you won't notice it.

I don't know as much about computers as I wish I did. I know the NVIDIA Geforce 9500 GT isn't a great video card, but could it run this, at least at lower settings? I don't have to much cash but I guess if I could find a cheap 9800, then I might be able to get that.

Probably a very stupid question, but would a Nvidia 8600 qualify for that? My knowledge on graphics card is minimal at best, but I dont really care that much about graphics to begin with, as long as the gameplay is functional.

i am not huge on nvidia cards, but your card is merely 256, and you need the next step up at 512 mb


if you are interested in upgrading it is a simple fix honestly, most 512 mb or 1 GB video card's are dirt cheap to get now a days

for nvidia, since that is probably what is most compatible with your system, i'd recommend this:

it's a "cheaper" upgrade that will still last you for a couple years probably.

Mods are confirmed for the consoles this time 'round, but I suspect they will be heavily policed to prevent add-in boobies.

If you're not picky about manufacturer, the gtx 500 series have gotten really cheap and are considerably powerful.

Nobody will argue with you on that. Compared to the 400 series, the 500 series is more powerful, quieter, cooler and consumes less power in some cases. GT2000 architecture started off great with the 400 series but became worthy of the high end enthusiasts that use them today when the 500 series GPUs hit the market. Many people are holding their breath to see what Nvidia does next.

I'm seeing two DVI ports, one HDMI port and one DisplayPort. That's just about the entire range short of mini-HDMI and mini-DisplayPort.

Ah well I'm pretty much on the minimum specs. I hope it's true that they "get you playing", but I'm a bit sceptical given Bethesda's track record. I remember trying Oblivion on my old laptop (which was around minimum) and it wasn't exactly stable. I'll still get it though, and if it turns out to be great it might just be the incentive I was looking for to upgrade.

Even the recommended specs aren't that high. I don't think I know anyone who still uses the Nvidia 200 series or ATI 4000 series cards.

I still use a 4770 that I got for all of $100 a couple years ago, and while it probably wouldn't do as well with something like BF3, I've been pretty impressed by how great it's held up running most other stuff on high or even maxed out at 1920x1200 still. It's only things like this and The Witcher 2 that finally have me waiting for the 7850 to come out (and hoping that it's actually good).

Not picky, just not in a hurry, because everything's run so well until now. I can wait and see how the 7000 and 600 series are before seeing what's best.

It's funny how people use the revelation of the minimum/recommended requirements here to boast about their hardware like they suffer from a serious inferiority complex and need to compensate for their size of their sexual organ.

You know what guys, if those Specs are true (Don't think of RAGE, Don't think of RAGE, Don't think of RAGE) my manly complex of reproduction down below is huge enough and I will still be able to run Skyrim in Ultra and with 32x Supersampling AAA, tesselation on MAX and 16x Anisotropic filtering in a 1920x1200 Pixel environment. But on a side note, nobody really cares except probably my girlfriend.


On a completely unrelated note:
I don't know what "Recommened Settings" mean? 1024x768 Pixels on Medium? That's just vague and not helping at all. Let's hope the don't fail like Rage did. (I know it's not the same Company, but it's the same publisher)

Not what they said. They said that there won't be any kindred friendships among dragons and people (a la How To Train Your Dragon). The article based around Hines' quote assumed he meant no friendly dragons (despite him also saying there may be nuances/exceptions to what he said). I'm more than happy to tell you more if you don't mind specifics being slightly spoiled (all my info comes for an actual announcement from Todd Howard that everyone either ignored or complained about being a spoiler).

You will get a dragon that will fight for you. You'll even get a dragon shout that will summon it. It just won't be your best friend.

they will take care of everything that limits dragons to anything, you say one? modders will say as many as you want, bethesda says not your best friend? modders will have their ways with the dragons, in more than one way..
