Mildly disappointed, but not much surprised. But I've said before, I'm not at all sure The Fantastic Four is something that can or should be brought into the present day. Serious and quiet (and apparently, dull) is one way to try to fail, but if anything, I suspect a literal translation of its Silver Age-era cheesiness would fail even harder. If don't know if I were Marvel if I would even try to get this franchise back.

I have to disagree, just look at the Guardians of the Galaxy, they went full camp with it and it worked out great. A Fantastic Four movie done in the silver age style could work, and hell if anything the market shows that would probably be the best it could do since superhero movies as of late seem to have their honesty to the source material directly correlate with their success.

Marvel scored a hit with Guardians of the Galaxy, which was actually a better FF movie than the prior two FF movies.

I would absolutely love to see them try to embrace the Silver-Age craziness of the FF comic. Even if they failed, I'd respect the attempt more than these non-Marvel movies which are totally ashamed of the source material.

OT: Was anyone surprised? I honestly can't think of anything I saw about this movie that made it look close to half decent. Everything they made to promote it reminded me of Man of Steel in all the wrong ways.

Eh. The trailers looked alright. Nothing particularly special, but not the godawful abomination people are making it out to be.

Then again, I still suspect there's plenty of overreacting going on.

Really I saw absolutely nothing about this movie that led me to believe it would be decent. Green Lantern made me think it was kind of Space Opera esque and the suit looked decent-ish on posters (But in any film shot GUH! I DO NOT LIKE GREEN EGGS AND HAM! I DO NOT LIKE THEM SAM I AM!), but this? This movie had all the hallmarks of Fox just making a movie to keep the franchise rights and having no idea what to do with anything.

Meh, I have Ant Man and Resurrection: F to keep my movie cravings satiated. (The latter isn't too bad, It's a DBZ movie really.)

By the reviews it seems they messed up dr Doom once again, it seems studios only see dr Doom as a evil guy with metal covering his body and some unexplained superpower, as if the character is only the super power, but the thing that makes dr Doom powerful and intimidating and probably the best comic book character ever is being dr Doom. Why I think this is because when I think what makes dr Doom OP is because he is dr Doom, not because he has a suit, or anything like that.

Giving dr Doom a half assed origin story will never suffice, if movie studios want to use dr Doom he must start the movie by already being dr Doom or by making a dr Doom movie first.

I am not all that surprised, to be honest. I mean:
- F4 are made into teenagers. It is not a bad thing in itself, but it did sound an alarm in my head, because one of the key things about F4 is family dynamics, with Rid and Sue being daddy and mommy, and Johnny and Ben being kind of like opposite uncles. I fail to imagine such thing with teens.
- Victor von Doom is not one of the greatest scientist on Earth, who is also one of the most powerful sorcerers, who also is a ruler of a coutry and has diplomatic immunity anymore. He is.. a dude? An angry internet dude who looks like some random Ulthron bot.
- Another thing about family. I feel like I am going to get some flak for it, but if you've decided to change the race of one sibling, please change race of the other one.
- This moive was kept under such a secret that it could be either one of the greatest things ever or a complete disaster. And considering that it is done by a studio who now is simply doing everything in it's power to not lose the rights to IP, I WAS leaning towards disaster variant.
- All the points that Jeremy Jahns and Chris Stuckmann made about how it is made more like a setup than an actual movie, how there is no chemistry between characters, how it is dark and gritty, etc.

I really, really, REALLY hope that Fox won't fuck up Deadpool.

And looking back at it doesn't deserve to be called one of the worst comic book movies ever made. For one thing it's a fantastic four movie, It's the only one that gets Dr. doom right and most of the characters for that manner and it seems like the creators actually love the comic and wanted to make a great movie out of it but was fucked over by being part of a ploy to keep the rights.

What's this movies excuse?

Give it eight or nine years, unless Fox actually shares the rights with/sell the rights to Marvel Studios. This was made for the same reason that The Amazing Spider-Man was made, spite and brand recognition. Fox is still somewhat well with their X-Men stuff and they've got Deadpool on the way, so they're not as desperate to profit off of it as Sony is, not to mention that Marvel Studios would probably only be interested in acquiring the Fantastic Four IP to get Doom as a villain.

I was referring to this, unless this is some kind of "undisclosed placeholder" or something... Then again, I really stopped giving two shits about any of the licensing property bullshit between Marvel and Sony/Fox outside of who owns the movie version of Galactus at this point...

Is anyone really surprised? The first thing I remember hearing about it is how this was about "teens with disabilities, not heroes with awesome powers." Let's not forget our first look at Dr. Doom made him look like a homeless person cosplaying as him.

Until they either make a Fantastic Four movie that takes place years after they get their powers, or they give the IP to people who can actually make a movie. I doubt I'll see it.

There's a new Fantastic Four movie? Even if they'd shown trailers and that I don't think I would have been fussed. Looks like nobody can handle it right. Except maybe that Roger Corman one... although my perspective is skewed, only having seen parts of it from Red Letter Media as they watched it alongside the original Supergirl and a Captain America movie from... the 1990s? The one with J.D Salinger's son in it.

Needless to say Fantastic Four was the best of those three.

The Incredibles is a better FF movie than either of them. A large part of that is obviously because it was made by people with talent and passion, but since it's animated it can also get away with a lot of the goofy and... cartoony sensibilities of something like The Fantastic Four.

Not that I'm crying foul or blaming Fox for how they ruined FF, since I've never had any love for this property. I keep hearing how they're the quintessential super hero team, how Reed Richards is the smartest man in the Marvel universe, and how Dr. Doom is its greatest villain and was Darth Vader before Darth Vader, but I generally rank about as high as the Bionic Six. I remember even finding The Fantastic Four cartoon show super lame, and this was at a time when Fox was knocking it out of the park with X-Men and Spider-Man.
