Pretty much this only I would change number 2 slightly: The animals don't want to kick your ass in Australia, they want to fucking murder you. I would probably still go because the deadlier ones are ocean dwellers and I don't swim (especially in Beaches) but still, I'd be wary.Shadowstar38 said:

As a 'true-blue' I can tell you several reasons not to come here, because it's a great place to live on balance, with all things considered, but there are drawbacks.
Firsly, we're in the middle of no where, so video games, television shows, everything is already old (unless imported) by the time it gets here, even cars take ages to be released, then they are priced at stupid levels, so suddenly only the super rich can afford even a 5 series BMW - that's bloody insane.
Then there's the weather, don't come in Summer, you'll just die. Cancer, being sun burnt, de-hydration, ect.
No one can speak to a scientific fact about a population of people that they don't know all individually, but I think that Americans are more helpful than Australians, well the country counter-parts, city slickers are generally pretty helpful from both places (oh, I've travelled to Seattle, Chicago, New York and Washington, so I have about a 50% idea of the US person friendliness level).
I think the best western country would actually be the UK, just because of the geographic location, but the US is closer to South America (obviously), Australia? Only if you want to see Asia or New Zealand.
Bugs, the politics, the actual idiotic tourists, the heat (Gets hot enough in southern Ontario seeming as were Americas tail pipe. Shut down your damn coal plants you jerks).
Well maybe I'd go somewhere on the east coast, around late wintery/spring. Seems to be the best place... and less things there to kill you I assume.

Let's see, for me it would be:
1. No money; plane tickets are fucking exspensive
2. Long plane ride; I don't like sitting still for too long
3. Wild life that wants to eat me; I'm dark meat, so I hope I give them heart burn
Those are the big three with the exception of the heat. I'm fine with heat, I love it when it's hot outside and not fucking cold(I see my state freezing again this winter). I would love to go to Australia, but if I had the money for a ticket, I would sooner go to Japan or a east-Asian country. After all, Japan is like 800 miles north of Australia, and if my family comes with me, then I would pick places where my mom wouldn't die from shock. She is terrified by spiders.

Oh, I might go there some day. Supposed to be some nice scenery, and the people I've met from Australia have generally been pretty decent.
On the other hand- blistering heat combined with some of the thinnest ozone protection, deadly jellyfish, deadly spiders, deadly snakes, deadly crocodiles, deadly scorpions, deadly insects... Pretty much the highest concentration of fauna that is capable of killing you anywhere other than a zoo dedicated to the subject of fauna capable of killing you.
I mean, for cryin' out loud... The kangaroos and ostriches seem pretty innocuous, and even they can kill you.
New Zealand has many of the same positives, and the nastiest animals there are the ones people brought there.

As a British friend of mine once said, "Australia, just a bunch of connies we sent south a long long time ago, moving on." And if wild life was a reason to not go, then I should leave Georgia, god I hate the hogs/banana spiders/alligators/snakes/what ever that damn flying bug with the 6 inch antenna is.

BTW, even though some games get censored (a la L4d2), we live ~12 hours in the future (to NY), and we also happen to get most games earlier than that, so yeah, quite good.

Internet censorship? We don't have it... there were plans for it, and maybe still are... but we don't have it.
As for the bugs? If you don't go into the country the likelyhood is that you will not see a single one. Even if you do, they don't fucking bite your face off. They sit in the corner or on a wall and do nothing. Just get a glass, put it over it, slide some card under the glass and throw the fucker outside and stop being such a pansy. Just mentioning that snakes too are pretty rare sights in most places and you'll never run into one unless you're a moron traipsing through high grass.
The reasons you wouldn't come here is because it's expensive comparatively to countries that have more touristy things to do. Here in Melbourne I can't think of much a tourist would do... sure there are landmarks, things like museums and aquariums, but there's nothing really special. We're one of the most liveable cities, with some of the best nightlife and culture in the world, but that only caters for a special kind of tourist, and us Melburnians ourselves.
Haha most people are using bugs or animals that are scary as a reason not to go. I didn't realise our fauna had such a reputation around the world. At first I thought that people were joking but it seems so reoccuring that maybe it isn't. Just in case people don't actually realise, we have houses you know, and cities. So unless you plan on going camping (which I have multiple times and have never been bitten by anything worse than an ant) I think you'll be fine. I suppose the game release thing would be annoying to others but when everyone else close to you gets the game at the same time it doesn't really matter that much. Anyways just a plug for Australia, awesome country, great people, but not much of a tourist destination. Well that is for Melbourne anyway, Queensland and Northern Territory are pretty good places to go.
