As for the question. Pretty simple. I take my gun, crawl out of bed, shoot the stranger, and go back to sleep happy, knowing that at morning i won't have to get up to feed my dog and cats. Pure profit.

If this did happen though, and I heard someone laughing, I'd freak out, stay as silent as possible, call the police, and climb out my second storey window. Somehow. I don't think it'd be wise to confront them or anything, even if it turns out to be totally innocent. I am somewhat pathetic in situations like these.

As I said in my EDIT: I jump out of my window. First, of course, I wonder who the fuck would bring a katana to a burglary, how completely impractical. And before you ask, if he tries to follow me, I run into the cellar which I then lock from the inside. If he tries to cut through the door? I exit towards the staircase, leaving the house and running to our neighbour's, all the while yelling for help. He won't cut me down with the whole neighbourhood watching.

First I'd lock the door of my room. Then get out of the house through the balcony of my room, and get to the front door as silently and as fast as possible and lock it from the outside, secure it with something so that it can't be open (there are a lot of handy things around our yard to do that). Then call the police, and enjoy the events.

EDIT: I forgot the laughing part. Ummm.... he'll (or she) probably stop laughing after what I'll do. On their way out, I'll probably throw a line like: -Why so serious?

I know the layout of my house better then he/she does and ill probably makke my way behind them, find out who they are and whatnot... better safe then sorry, probably just a drunk, offer them a drink, try find out who they are and what they thought was funny, share a chuckle with them before calling the cops to get him home.

I'd assume it was one of my roommates. If for any reason I was sure that it was an intruder, I guess I'd probably yell for my roommates to come out. Once he's confronted with four to five mid-twenties, he'll probably bail. Good thing we have quite a decent gun control over here.

Yeah, just saw that and edited accordingly. My first thoughts would nevertheless be: "Ah, so one of the guys is back early" and then if it turns out it's a stranger "Ah, so one of the guys gave their key to a friend or relative to crash here while they're gone"
