I think Australia is upset over that anti-Islam video. They just didn't seem to think it was appropriate.
No a few idiotic religious types are upset over someone exercising the right of free speech.
Muslims are just going to have to learn to shut up and take it like the rest

What? Idiotic religious types?

Yes, everyone who is Muslim has the right to be upset at that video.

However, ONLY the EXTREMISTS were the ones rioting.

Are you honestly saying someone could make a movie about Chrisianity/Buddhism/Americans/New Zealanders/ANY FREAKING GROUP and portray them or what they believe negatively, and they don't have the right to be upset because of "HURRR HURR FREE SPEECH"?

Free Speech doesn't mean you can go around insulting anyone you fucking feel like, and it also doesn't mean you can get away with no consequences. Maybe not consequences from the government, but from society? Yeah, prepare to be ostracized the shit away from everyone.

Well free speech is hardly unlimited here in the us. You can be sued into bankruptcy for defaming someone if they can prove they lost a certain amount of money because of your words. Also incitement to violence and threats are not protected, and you can be thrown into prison for a very long time.
Lol I had to recheck your name to make sure you weren't the one I replied to cause that confused me.

It is nice to know that there are consequences for free speech. But the people who believe free speech should mean "Say whatever I want and get off scot free" confuse the shit out of me.

But what he said just rubbed me the wrong way. Muslims will have to shut up and take it like everyone else?

Christians will not stop until they have verbally beaten you into a bloody pulp if you even say a god damn word against God or Jesus. I have met many Christians like that. No one I have met is enough of a masochist to just take insults without saying anything, and to say that "EVERYONE ELSE EXCEPT MUSLIMS DON'T RETALIATE" just showed me how little that person understood about the world.

And yeah, anybody has the right to be upset by a movie made about them. But what other religious group has so many extremists that is someone made a really shitty, obviously inflammatory movie about them that will not get wide release. It Would spark worldwide riots and protests?

The ones in power are always ridiculous, history has proven this time and again. Many many Christians like so very much to play the victim while gorging their fat over-priveleged faces on americas cup. Did you see that ad that the "Innocence of Mohammed" creator placed on new york buses? Went something along the lines of "When the civilized man clashes with the primitive barbarians, support the civilized man. Support Israel, Defeat Jihad". And they pretend to wonder why everyone cant stand their pompous manipulative asses.

In a country where church and state are supposed to be separated, we have this funny rule where you are not allowed to be president unless you are a christian. We live in and upside down world where white is black and the weak are powerful. Fuck the majority
As I live in Australia I haven't heard much about the the people or advertising behind the movie, asides from the producer, or director or someone affiliated with the movie is now arrested for breaking parole, and that they are all getting death threats. Although that ad really disgusts me. Who is it for anyone to decide who is civilized and who is a barbarian. I hate the people who take the high ground just because of another persons beliefs. I mean, I am not religious, but that doesn't mean I hate people who are, or think that I am superior, cause that is just stupid. It'd just be fanning the flames even further.

However I didn't know about the president required to be Christian. That seems.....well...honestly....really fucking weird for a, as you put it, country where church and state are meant to be separated. I mean, I don't know much about American Political history, but wasn't JFK the one who decided it was a good idea? And weren't people like "Yeah that is a good idea, JFK, your the man!". (obviously the wording was a bit different back in those times, maybe "You have had a brilliant idea, good sir".)

Are you really saying that if a movie was made about Christians, with the same negative attitude that this one had against Muslims, that there wouldn't be Christians rioting world wide?

Seeing as the according to reports, there are more Christians than Muslims worldwide, The chances of which there would be riots increase, as there is a higher population of people.

Edit: Also, A majority of the riots were where the Muslim community is a minority, are you saying Christians wouldn't riot in countries where they are the minority instead? There is no need for the to riot in countries where Christians are the majority, it'd be like shouting at themselves.

Agreed. Kinda like how one douchebag makes a small internet video that disses Muhammed and suddenly all Americans hate Muslims. Or how some extremists go on what they believe is a holy war and suddenly all Muslims are now psychopathic fanatical mass-murderers...
... I sense a pattern here.

Yes i am. People parody Christians and Christianit and they straight-up insult them all the time. It doesn't spark such widespread unrest .

People are too scared to portray Mohammed in any mainstream media but have not problems with showing and parodying Jesus, Buddha and other deity's and gods. And while those artists might receive angry letters and some threats it sure as hell wont start a worldwide shit storm.

Youre right, it is an archaic idea. But you also have to remember that something like 75% of the US is Christian.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_the_United_States

Considering that Australia is the only country to serve by the United States in every war since WW2, we don't all hate the United States.

Our government loves your government.
You can't judge the actions of a few and connect it with an entire country.

You cant group the rest of us with these guys its 200 in 22 million
Thats 0.0001% or 1 out of 11000 of us does that really represent the majority.
This was just some kid who saw an opportunity to create trouble he's in police custody now.
We don't think your country is all racist due to the domestic terrorism by white supremesites it makes up a very small part of your population.
Most Australians are indifferent to America we like having a partner on the world stage and the cultural bond we share but we don't like the constant wars and war crimes the military base your building in our country the relationship (you kind of take us for granted) needs a bit of work but we don't hate you guys.

From what I heard (which isn't very much) some jackoff made a "movie" about Mohammed and put it up on Youtube. It's probably inaccurate, definitely offensive to Muslims (I don't know why but portraying Mohammed isn't allowed. Ever.), and most likely racist to boot (it's on Youtube).

There's a very good chance this is the all-time most elaborate attempt at trolling ever. There's also still a chance the purpose of the film isn't to offend, but to make a statement about the portrayal of Islam in the West, yada yada yada, now it's blown up into a media frenzy. I'm sure if the films creators got together with some Western and Eastern representatives of Muslim/Islamic culture, and had a nice long chat about boundaries, cultural differences, respect, and most importantly freedom of speech, we'd have a formal apology from the creators, muslims worldwide, and maybe even a few countries citizenry.

But that's not going to happen. People would rather talk shit and remain ignorant until we kill ourselves off. I am tired of Earth, these people. I'm tired of being caught in the tangle of their lives...

OP is not helping our case. =|
Few protesters =/= entirety of australian population.

Though I will admit I wasn't expecting protests there, but it's not like the entirey of australia feels that way. At least, I don't think so... >_> <_< hmmmmm......

I agree. Then again, the religion is still ingrained within the cultural identity of so many Middle-Eastern countries that it takes very little to offend. Think of South Park portraying Jesus, but in the 50's. Not gonna go over well in the U.S.A. Or perhaps The Simpsons portrayals of Buddha or Vishnu (or perhaps it was Krishna) in sight gags, aired in China and India respectively. I think there would be more than an angry letter.

What the fuck dude! Tell the DoD or the NSA or the UN! Where did you hear this?! What's being done to combat it?! Who said they were going to attack a protest?!

I apologize for the caps rage but this could be a life-or-death situation and cause for civil war.

Ye I need to kind of Counter the first one.
If you remember Life of Brian a parody not even about Jesus makes that apparent was pretty badly boycotted by Christians.
We have developed a sense of humor about our religion and we have gradually gained a tolerance to parody.
While I believe that the death of that diplomat was unforgivable I do understand that they have not reached the point in their religious history where they can think like that.
Just think a few years or decades ago making fun of a living man could mean death think of how that develops with a prophet.
It takes time for people to develop that tolerance especially in a culture that is extremely protective of their religion.
