Lilo and Stitch. Beautiful animation, layouts, and character design. Fantastic, touching story with a good message. And Stitch has been my favorite Disney character since I saw the first teaser trailer all those years ago.

It squeaks out just ahead of How to Train Your Dragon because of it's nostalgic appeal to me.

Captcha: wild west. No one likes that movie, captcha.

No way I could say just one, so here's a list.

Back to the Future (all 3, especially the 3rd, because Steam Train Time Machine)
Lord of the Rings
Dogma
Serenity
The Last Crusade (like all the Indy films, but the 3rd gets bonus nostalgia points)
Jurassic Park

I'll leave it there, as kind of pushing a bit already by even listing more than one film.

I guess either Old Boy or Fight Club.

Both have unforgettable characters, great cinematography, an amazing score, great performances, perfect pacing, an interesting story that works on many layers and the ideal mix of violence, drama and (dark) humor. Not to mention they both have a great mindfuck ending. Yeah, the impact isn't the same the second time around, but because they are such fantastic movies, you can still enjoy them and even notice new things with every successive screening.

I've also heard some people claim they already knew how the movie was going to end before it was over, but I call bullshit. Unless you're a philistine and can't get invested in a good movie, you will not have the will nor time to contemplate possible outcomes - you will just gawk at the screen and let the movie wash over you.

(Oh, and about the whole "wishy-washy"-thing? Sorry pal, if it wasn't for these two, I never would have gotten as interested in films as I am today, so I'm not choosing.)

My favourite film has to be Man on the Moon.
It's a comedy/ biography based on the life of Andy Kaufman (played by Jim Carrey), where he started, all the character's he played, his friends, his big show and eventually his death.
I found the film hilarious and the ending very touching and Jim Carrey was excellently picked for the role of Kaufman, I couldn't imagine anyone but Kaufman could have done better. Not only was the film itself funny but I also got a lot of fun from looking up Kaufman on Wikipedia to see how much of the film was true and how much was Hollywood and it turns out that not only was the film pretty true to the source but I also learned about all the other nutso stuff that Kaufman did. Like when Kaufman wrestled a professional wrestler Jerry Lawler while insulting the whole of Memphis. Nobody knew this was a joke but Lawler and Kaufman and word didn't get out that it was all a joke until 10 years after Kaufman died.
So that's my favourite film and I highly recommend that you guys watch it.

Awesome actors, cool concept, amazing twist that is probably really obvious but I had no idea till the reveal.

I'm gonna have Four Catagories: Eastern Live Action, Western Live Action, Eastern Animated, Western Animated.

Eastern Live Action:

It's a funny movie with gangsters and some pretty cool martial arts, watched it in early High School at a party and I laughed so hard. Watching it again a few days ago, it had the same effect
It's one of my favourites as well!

Also, Stranger Than Fiction (well writen, great cast and lovely music)
and The Princess Bride (My childhood film of choice that still makes me laugh and cry years later)

Hm... If I had to pick just one it would probably be District 9. It may not be quite as fun as some other movies I've seen, but there's no denying that it's a great film.

Spirited away. I have never seen a movie more times than this one, at least 9 or 10 and I rarely watch a movie more than twice. I can't quite describe why this movie is my favorite I mean the animation, plot, characters and music are all sublime but its when I think back on the movie I always remember a great magical time sort of like nostalgia and for me as a rather cynical person that's a great feeling to have.

I'm going to sound like such a snob, but I really liked La vita è bella (Life is Beautiful). Probably the best movie about World War II, and the protagonist is one of the best characters ever in film. Recommend it highly to everyone, regardless of what kinds of movies you actually like. Second place is Cinema Paradiso, and then third is when we finally get to the not posh films with Quest for Camelot, which was excellent when I first saw it and is still excellent.

Raiders of the Lost Ark...

Straight up, no futzing around... that is my favorite movie. I've probably watched it around once a year since I was 5 or 6, can quote it pretty much line for line, could watch the entire movie in my head and I STILL LOVE RE-WATCHING IT!

Not much to say as to why I love it so much... it's a bizarre combination of Nostalgia that grew into an appreciation for what Raiders did for action movies as well as it's status as a "Neo-Retro" Pulp film. I just... love it.

My favorite movie is "I'm not there" since it always changes meaning everytime I watch it. Although, I'm not sure that I would recommend it to the common viewer or somebody who doesn't like Bob Dylan. It's one of those movies where you have to develop a thing for it.

I think I'm gonna have to say The Matrix. I know, objectively speaking I've seen far better movies, but The Matrix is just the most enjoyable movie to watch for me. It never gets old, I always love it. And no, I haven't seen the sequels yet.

The other movie that comes to mind is The Princess Bride. It's just such a great movie...

A single favourite, that's pretty harsh I'd struggle to do a top 5. At this moment I'll go with Die Hard because damnit what is there not to love about it? Great action, good pacing and one of the most entertaning antagonists in any film. It might ultimately boil down to a dumb (though not as most) action film but at the end of the day despite what mood I'm in watching Die Hard is one of the handful of things that makes me feel unconditionally good about life.

I have to agree with you on that one, I bought it on DVD too. My favourite film would probably be Ghost in the Shell: Innocence, sublime animation quality and an excellent story to boot.

The Nightmare before Christmas. Unfortunately that means that people think I'm a goth or that I love Tim Burton.

I always say Lord of the Rings. best movies of ever and always. But if I'm saying just a singular movie I would say The Prestige.
