My latest list;

-Knee-jerk reactions in society based on ignorance or poorly interpreted meanings. i.e. The Daily Mail
-The sense of entitlement of western culture and self-justification of the modern generation. Just because you were born doesn't mean you are owed anything, and "because that's just the way I am, I'm being real/honest/myself" is not a proper justifcation for being a complete arsehole to people.... and stop applying to Big Brother.
- People whose behaviour is clearly hyper-affected in an effort to appear to have a "personality"
-Any media coverage of Celebrities that have done nothing productive for the world that doesn't relate in any way to their "work".
-The complete lack awareness of others in people just walking around. Yes, you and your fat family are holding me up because you decided to stop and figure out where to go next RIGHT IN THE FRIKKIN DOORWAY!!!?

Shame, especially in a sexual context.

I would welcome it when we could talk about sexuality more openly and "deviances" like homosexuality or swinging for example wouldn't be such a bid deal.

also, people who use unnecessarily long words...

EDIT thats not a convention, is it -.-

still, i agree with the dude i quoted.
Well, hey, if you're not interested in women, ignore them. Me, I dislike men who think they deserve attention if they're not willing to put forth some kind of effort.

I don't think there are any particular conventions that I really HATE--but then I make my own conventions most of the time. No, no, wait, I've got one. I hate having to shave 80% of my body in order to be socially acceptable.

I also hate it when some asshole dies and we aren't allowed to say anything bad about them, simply because it's disrespectful to the family they leave behind.
If they were an asshole, why didn't you say so when they were ALIVE. Waiting until after they're dead is just cowardly and pathetic.

I'm extremely vexed with my current generation for going into the world as a bunch of stuck up assholes who think their cool and better than everyone else with their pants on their knees. I'm tired of hearing the people in my classes sound like total jackasses for no reason at all and all the while the intelligent people are either quiet, or part of the stupidity. Seriously, i know a lot of smart idiots.
I also hate the people who think that boys have to be tough and girls have to be flowers in essence. I like romance and my female friends like a lot of things that make me cringe. That said, I do know some people who are under those categories by nature, I don't mean to start anything by this post.
I hate normalcy, life's more fun being weird!

hey, hey, hey. don't get me wrong. i'm all for women, and i have nothing against chivalry.

the part that annoys me is that some women will perpetually turn down help on the count of being 'independent', then complain that a guy isn't gentlemanly if they walk through a door first...

really, i suppose, its hypocrisy that annoys me

Yes, it's terrible that mixture of respect and politeness which is not exactly required of you, but to be encouraged.

In terms of the actual topic... Hmm.

Oh, beards being generally regarded in an unfavourable light, at least in the West.
We would like that same respect and politeness back. Please. Most often that sort of "respect and politeness" is not encouraged amongst women towards men, so yeah.............

Clubbing, the music is shit, the females are too young and covered in makeup to hide their grotesque features and the drinks are horrible and expensive. Yet i'm the weirdo for "not wanting to come out". I'd rather blaze at home where everything is as i like it :D

The 9-5 workday. I'm much more productive in the evening.

How men in the business world have to wear dress shirt/dress pants/tie, but women can basically wear whatever the fuck they want.

That most office jobs could very easily be done from a home office, since all they involve is using an email client and a website. But you are still required to commute in to an office to do them, thereby often sucking 2+ hours out of your day.
We should have a new rule, you pay me for my journey time or I work from home

Awesome.. you can start by not expecting women to have sex with you, ever.

Let me have a little guess here..

1) You actually think women should be demure and 'feminine' and partly resent their independence.
2) On a relatively small number of occasions you did something you thought was 'chivalrous' but was actually quite patronizing, or maybe the spirit in which you did it was intended to be patronizing.
3) You got chewed out for it, and decided from this experience that all women wield massive social power which you don't have.
4) You started being outright rude and resentful towards women as a whole and got chewed out for that too.

Guess what, I'm surrounded by 50+ committed feminists every day. I've never been chewed out for my behaviour, not once. You know why that is, because I somehow manage to treat women like complex, individual human beings rather than some collective hive mind of unreasonable demands.

Here's a clue, you're not a knight in shining armour and I sincerely doubt you ever have treated a woman as an equal to an acceptable degree. That's what the problem is, not whether or not you held a door open.
Marvelous outing of that fellow's prejudices. Yes, your ability to psychoanalyze a person through a monitor based upon a single instance of indignity truly shows that you harbor no unjust stereotypes of your own and that you approach your fellow man (person?) objectively and without bias.

Now, let's have this gay male - who happens to agree with TheIronRuler - explain why you're an absolute moron...

Most women don't so much mind men acting without chivalry (but then again acting with chivalry doesn't go unappreciated); the whole chivalry thing isn't the problem, it's an artifact of a larger problem. Misandry, the opposite of Misogyny, is the problem in question.
Women want men to act less like men but, when it comes to relationships, will happily criticize men when they fail to act 'masculine'. Angry with that statement? It does seem very general, but I didn't mean it in a general context - I'm simply saying this; everyone I've met has also met a woman like this and that is enough for my point...

Let's examine the stereotypical Misandrist; the stereotypical Misandrist hates men for what they might deem 'male behaviour' and wants men to behave in a more civilized fashion; change their trousers more often, eat less pizza, like Romantic Comedies more - I remind you we're explaining the stereotype.
Now let's examine the stereotypical Misogynist. The stereotypical Misogynist is a embittered fellow who grows a beard out of indignity and complains about women attempting to impugn upon his masculinity. Notice something? The stereotypical Misandrist wants men to act in a certain way yet the stereotypical Misogynist just wants women to leave him alone.

Western society won't let men be men, they can be anything else but they'd better not be men. Women, however, can be whatever they damn well please.
Now, here's the thing, men are stronger than women, men go to wars and they get themselves killed and do you know how the modern woman reacts when a man says he wants to join the army? She asks him how he could be so stupid. What's going on here? Masculinity has become stupid. To have a passion for cars, to drink beer, to play COD and, most importantly, to fight - these are now stupid behaviors.
Spending longer than the average man in front of the mirror, to spend liberally on cosmetics, to dress according to the fashion, to wear a scarf, to eat less meat; these have become the symbols of civility. These are not sexually neutral activities; these are feminine.

It has become that a man, should he wish to behave in a masculine way, must, at every turn, defend his doing so or do it ironically.

and now to just attack your semantics for a bit...

I find it rather ironic that you opened your discussion with a statement paraphrasable to 'The good thing about having the right attitude to women is it's easier to have sex with them.'

50+ committed feminists or 50+ women who happen to enjoy discussing feminism with you because you agree with them?

Assumption 1 is absurd; TheIronRuler is clearly complaining about the pressures against him, he is not a 'rape is the victim's fault' douchebag.

He has of course treated women as equals, he's complaining about him not being treated as an equal.

Egalitarianism not Feminism. It's a simple fucking concept.

I'm having trouble putting the whole discussion together at this time of the night so I'll end it there before I make a bigger fool of myself, not that I don't stand behind everything I said; just that it's poorly worded.

EDIT: I hate the social convention that the elderly are entitled to more ignorance than everyone else and yet we have to, not only be polite, but respect their 'wisdom'.
O_O RESPECT.

Poor wording is the least of your worries mate. I'd be more concerned about the way that you impicitly as well as explicitly appeal to stereotypes and treat them as the golden fucking truth in order to prove that society hates men and sees them as stupid.
[T]o play COD and, most importantly, to fight - these are now stupid behaviors.
Somehow, I don't think you're doing us any favours.

I hate the bullshit behind uni life, if you don't drink, party, cheat on your girlfriend/boyfriend you are a complete social outcast. I'm sorry but if that's what is wrong here I don't want to be right.

Also how much hype people get to being drunk and the glorification behind it. For example using multiple different terms for intoxication and using it as an excuse to be the most obnoxious kind of human being on the planet
One of my favourite times was in uni, having a bunch of 18 year olds yell chug at me while I sipped my ale... "Oh kids!" just reminds me of how dumb I was at 18

Good grief. No wonder everyone says I act more like a man than a woman.

For the record: I love red meat. I love guys who drink beer (provided they don't drink until they get drunk--drunkenness is not masculine, it is uncouth). I play video games more than most guys. I'm not much into cars, but I get guys that are. And the only time I'd ever expect to see a guy wearing a scarf would be if it's rather chilly outside.

However, none of these behaviors are particularly "masculine" in my book. In fact, the only really solidly masculine behavior as far as I'm concerned is that you *like women*. Well, in an abstract sort of sense, at least, not necessarily any of the PARTICULAR women that you've met. It doesn't necessarily mean that you want to BE LIKED BY women. It doesn't even necessarily mean that you want to have sex with them--I know plenty of gay men who like women quite a bit, they just aren't attracted to them.

Most of the misogynists I've met--my housemate is one, he's a good guy but he does NOT like women, he's sexually ATTRACTED to women but he doesn't LIKE women--are in kind of a bad position because they want women for their sexual needs but don't actually want to spend time with women otherwise. I suspect that misandrists are the same way--they want to have sex with men but don't like them much. However they have this expectation that they ought to WANT to hang out with the man they're having sex with (and he "ought" to want to hang out with them), so they try to bully men into acting more like women. I dunno. Just a theory.

Wouldn't it be nice if the misandrists and the misogynists could just come to an agreement--we're gonna have sex, but otherwise, not hanging out. Don't have to live in the same house and drive each other crazy. But I suspect that far too many women who dislike men have this weird expectation that their boyfriend/husband ought to be their BFF and want to go do all their girly stuff with them.
