Cat's in the Cradle, anyone? No one? Really?!?!?
Ugh, our English teacher made us study that in school, along with one of Dido's songs.

I wasn't moved so much as put to sleep. :p
Well, the only way I could see a guy not being at least a little moved by that song is him having have a completely uncomplicated relationship with their father and/or son. Either a perfect loving one, or an unmitigatedly awful/nonexistent one. Anything in-between, and I would think it would elicit something. I hope you fall into the first category.

On the other hand, some of the best books in history have been completely ruined by becoming assignments, so I could see the same phenomenon coming into play with a song.

Put me in a padded room (no way to knock myself unconscious) and play Mtv's Top 20 songs or something similar on a loop; in several hours you will find me in fetal position on the floor weeping like a little child.

What about the Wedding March? If you are hearing it either you or a friend is getting married, this sad fate is worthy of a tear or two.

The first song I have ever listened to after I turned 14 (before then I was a total vagina who cried at everything) that made me cry was about two months ago.

Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) by Arcade Fire

EDIT: Hmm, it didn't quote right. Was trying to quote the Cats in The Cradle post.

My bad, knew there was something I missed.

Now that's in my head, too. Along with Sisters of Mercy's Black Planet, which isn't really that sad, but shows the depressive mood this thread has put me in.

Thanks, guys.

Green Fields of France

There's plenty of good versions out there. Most notably among the younger generation is Dropkick Murphys. This song is so beautifully tragic. I could be having the best time of my life and this song would instantly put me in my sad pants once it's played.

If you're crying to a song you're probably not a guy. Haha LOLMIRITE?
HA HA Totally. Let's go do manly things like change the oil in our cars and lift heavy things and build a meth lab in my basement and wash each others backs in the shower. . .at the gym. GO TEAM. Whoo, saved it.

Hello, all! This is my first post on the Escapist, which is due to lurking about this very thread and being possessed of an overwhelming desire to contribute.

OT: To those that have said otherwise, real men cry. You can't truly be human if you can't cry (save the sarcastic "what am I then, an alien?" comments, please), for it is a sign of the fundamental vulnerability of humans.

Many of the pieces already mentioned are capable of causing sadness and, indeed, tears. As a fellow nerd, however, I must voice my concern over the fact that this has not been mentioned:

Also a bit surprised by this being left out:

First Contact is about the grand adventure that awaits those who seek it. Watchmen's theme ("Times are a'changin" by Bob Dylan) is about the passing away of the old to make room for the new.

Non, crying over a song is just strange.
Real men don't cry, ever.
So real men to not show emotions?
How... cowedly.
OT: It's because it was used as a funeral song for someone close to me.
Of course men can show emotions. It's just crying that I dislike, for me crying is just a thing people do to get sympathy. If you don't like something change it. And crying over a song doesn't make sense to me, a song can make me feel down but that only make me want to make things better. Crying over a song is like saying life sucks and I'm gonna go sit in a corner.

If you feel sad enough to cry, then you should. I cry when I remember the event associated with the song, the song itself does not make me cry. I'm sure you cry when one of your loved ones dies.

I don't cry, not when my dog died, or when my granddad died, not even when one of my friends died.
Last time I cried was before the age of ten, I don't feel the need to cry and I believe that there are better ways to deal with loses.
