You're a fool for thinking there might be some merit left to the Sonic franchise and you're even more foolish if you think that my statement has no value.

Pains me to say I probably won't be getting this game any time soon. Regardless if the release date isn't any time soon anyway. A Wii U can't be justify the cost vs the amount of games it currently has, or will have for quite some time it seems. Maybe if the price goes down, or a shit ton of games are released. Or I get a proper job. Till then I have to let this title slide by. *sigh*

Huh. The set up is odd and the levels look really weird. However, I was a fan of Generations and Colors was decent, so Sonic Team gets the benefit of the doubt from me on this one.

So Sonic Generations mixed with Super Mario Galaxy?

If it doesn't have gimmicky Gamepad bullshit this is a must-buy

At first I was a bit unsure about this game, it looked too much like Sonic X-treme for my liking, and I honestly don't think I would have liked that game were it ever released. It looked like it would have been a pain in the ass to control and the constant camera panning combined with the omnipresent fish-eye lens effect just seemed like it would have been very disorienting.

However as I've discovered more about it and I've seen more screenshots, it seems like it actually might be really cool. The graphics look really nice, even for an obviously incomplete product, it actually does appear that the game could blend 2D and 3D just as well as, if not better than, Colours and Generations, and the whole parkour system seems like a very logical and natural progression for Sonic to go through.

Also, from what I've seen on IGN, apparently the Wisps from Sonic Colours are returning, and that is one decision I am very happy with! The Wisps made for some really interesting and fun exploration and level design in Colours, and it makes sense considering how this game is still set in space. So yeah, I'm looking forward to this. Naturally as, according to the dipshit fanboys, I wouldn't be a real Sonic fan if I weren't...

Sonic looks like he controls well, there are some cool new gameplay ideas (finally we can do wall-running in a Sonic game) and the level design looks reminiscent of Sonic Xtreme... in a good way.
That's because it basically is Sonic X-treme. It just has prettier graphics.

I'm cautiously optimistic for this title, honestly. I couldn't handle Mario Galaxy. Flip me sideways and upside down and I don't know what the fuck. But it doesn't look quite as bad. But at the same time, this game was canned the first time. So I'm pretty on the fence about it.
Yeah but the reasons it was canned are much more complex than the gam ebeing a bad idea, as I recall Yuji Naka threw a hissy fit over the use of the Nights engine and basically dragged the project down into the abyss over it. That said the original Xtreme protoype doesn't look that good to me, not how the movement is only in 4 directions and what have you :p looks like a VERY early prototype.

I've never been a fan of Sonic... but this looks pretty damn awesome. As others have noted it resembles X-treme, and I always thought that game looked cool. I guess I'll add this to my list of "Games to buy once I get a Wii U".

Looks like the void levels from Super Mario Sunshine, hopefully it will play better than them.

I'm not sold on this til I see someone sit down with a proper hands-on playthrough without constant cuts to scripted events. Fool me once, Sonic Team...

This looks promising, shall keep an eye on it. Cautiously optimistic, with any luck maybe it's forgetting canon and starting fresh with something new. Added to my list of reasons to eventually get a Wii-U.

I have been a long time Sonic fan, and even I have not bought their past games. However Sonic Colors and generations were very good games, and to call somebody a fool for having hope for this new game- when their last two titles did pretty well is pretty rude if you ask me.

That looks really awesome
BUT
we all know how far that goes when it comes to Sonic games.
I'm going to wait for some reviews first.
That being said, if the reviews are good (which I REALLY hope they are) I will sell my liver to get that Wii U.

Sorry if you feel slighted, but there is no denying that Sonic is nothing compared to what it once was. Even if Colors and Generations were considered "good", and I'm using that term liberally, they were good because they were probably being compared to the garbage that flowed out of Sega before them. If you like Sonic that's fine, I'm glad you like Sonic. But Sonic fans (read not specifically you, this is not an insult) have a tendency to paint the franchise a color it is certainly not. And it gets even worse when the game hasn't been released and some Sonic fans (again, read Sonic fans, not specifically you) claim it's going to bring the blue hedgehog back to the forefront of gaming (it never happens, not even slightly).

I watched that trailer several times and each time I see it, all it does is make me want this thing more. I recently grabbed Secret Rings and, Black Knight...I wouldn't recommend either. I played through Sonic 06 and enjoyed that somehow too. This however...this looks really great. Hopefully it'll be playable at the one Best Buy near me that's going to host Nintendo's E3 set-up.

So now that we know what this is going to be and, we know about Mario & Sonic @ Sochi (which is the first Olympic game that looks appealing to me), all we can do is speculate on the third Sonic game Sega agreed to make with Nintendo. Hopefully it's a full on cross-over or third installment to Adventure.

Those gravity mechanica look pretty sweet. Messing with the gravity was one of the best parts of Mario Galaxy. The enemies look kinda stupid though.

I kind of like them. The red one especially. I guess it will get some getting used to.

This looks pretty damn good. I've been looking for something to scratch my 3D platformer itch for quite some time.

Not sure if already posted....

None the less it seems pretty interesting, i hope that the touted "parkour button" doesn't remove any kind of challenge from obstacles in the level, but then I think I'm in the minority of people who actually didn't mind occasionally ploughing into things because I was too slow to jump over them. I much prefer a more platform focused approach, maybe thats why I liked Colours so much more than Generations...

No, they're just good games. As in, even ignoring all the crap that came before and taking them on their own merits, they're fun to play, have responsive controls and clever level design. Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing came out last year, and many people are contending its one of the best 'Kart' racers ever made. Six or seven years ago, Sonic was in the shitter, but his last few games have been undeniably good, and there's no reason to assume Sega won't continue that trend with the latest game. Not when both the gameplay shown so far and the interview on IGN go so far to suggest that Sonic Team have finally cracked how to get Sonic to control well in 3D.

If you like Sonic that's fine, I'm glad you like Sonic. But Sonic fans (read not specifically you, this is not an insult) have a tendency to paint the franchise a color it is certainly not.
Because all games are only as good as you claim. Subjective opinion isn't a thing at all. Nope.

And it gets even worse when the game hasn't been released and some Sonic fans (again, read Sonic fans, not specifically you) claim it's going to bring the blue hedgehog back to the forefront of gaming (it never happens, not even slightly).
Where are people claiming this is going to put Sonic back at the forefront of gaming? I think you're rather putting words in people's mouths there. All anyone seems to be hoping for is another good Sonic game. General consensus is that the last few were good, and people are hoping that this trend continues. As one of the veteran icons of gaming, Sonic certainly attracts a lot of nostalgia and long-term love, but I don't think anyone has suggested that this game is going to rocket Sonic to COD levels of success. Just that it would be nice to have another good Sonic game. Which is what this looks like.
Um for reference, on Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed;

"To conclude this game is a fantastic piece of entertainment and brilliant fun with friends or family alike, it offers easy to pick up game play with a good difficulty curve and plenty of challenge and replay value for those who seek it out. It?s been said elsewhere but this isn?t just a game trying to emulate the past glories of Sega, this game stands up their with their greatest achievements and celebrates them, this is truly a gem and one of the most enjoyable titles of the year."

Also, 9.1, but disappointed that there was no DLC, and that there was a Nascar driver but no Toe Jam & Earl.

Ahem.

Also Sonic Colours and Generations were very good games indeed in their own right, not just relative to the garbage Sega had been pumping out from 2004-2007. They were excellently designed games with great gameplay offering up a lot for fans and new comers alike.

I keep telling you people that it's Mario Kart X Sonic & All-Stars Racing developed by Sumo Digital based on that one tweet from the guy at Sumo Digital but you just won't have faith that it could be something so awesome...

Seriously, that crossover needs to be a thing.

Or maybe we'll get that Mario & Sonic platformer people seem to keep demanding for some reason.

...now that you mention it yes: I want Sega & Nintendo All-Star Racing. Sonic and Sega All-Star is a ton of fun but I don't want that + Mario, Toad, Luigi & Peach. I wanna see them take this thing all the way: Alex Kidd, Pitt, Ulala, Samus, Monster Hunter, Panzer-Dragoon...pilot(?)...that kinda thing.
