You're a fool for thinking there might be some merit left to the Sonic franchise and you're even more foolish if you think that my statement has no value.
Yeah but the reasons it was canned are much more complex than the gam ebeing a bad idea, as I recall Yuji Naka threw a hissy fit over the use of the Nights engine and basically dragged the project down into the abyss over it. That said the original Xtreme protoype doesn't look that good to me, not how the movement is only in 4 directions and what have youExius Xavarus said:That's because it basically is Sonic X-treme. It just has prettier graphics.j-e-f-f-e-r-s said:Sonic looks like he controls well, there are some cool new gameplay ideas (finally we can do wall-running in a Sonic game) and the level design looks reminiscent of Sonic Xtreme... in a good way.
I'm cautiously optimistic for this title, honestly. I couldn't handle Mario Galaxy. Flip me sideways and upside down and I don't know what the fuck. But it doesn't look quite as bad. But at the same time, this game was canned the first time. So I'm pretty on the fence about it.
I have been a long time Sonic fan, and even I have not bought their past games. However Sonic Colors and generations were very good games, and to call somebody a fool for having hope for this new game- when their last two titles did pretty well is pretty rude if you ask me.Grape_Bullion said:You're a fool for thinking there might be some merit left to the Sonic franchise and you're even more foolish if you think that my statement has no value.
Sorry if you feel slighted, but there is no denying that Sonic is nothing compared to what it once was. Even if Colors and Generations were considered "good", and I'm using that term liberally, they were good because they were probably being compared to the garbage that flowed out of Sega before them. If you like Sonic that's fine, I'm glad you like Sonic. But Sonic fans (read not specifically you, this is not an insult) have a tendency to paint the franchise a color it is certainly not. And it gets even worse when the game hasn't been released and some Sonic fans (again, read Sonic fans, not specifically you) claim it's going to bring the blue hedgehog back to the forefront of gaming (it never happens, not even slightly).Dragonbums said:I have been a long time Sonic fan, and even I have not bought their past games. I kind of like them. The red one especially. I guess it will get some getting used to.kailus13 said:Those gravity mechanica look pretty sweet. Messing with the gravity was one of the best parts of Mario Galaxy. The enemies look kinda stupid though.
Um for reference, on Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed;j-e-f-f-e-r-s said:No, they're just good games. As in, even ignoring all the crap that came before and taking them on their own merits, they're fun to play, have responsive controls and clever level design. Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing came out last year, and many people are contending its one of the best 'Kart' racers ever made. Six or seven years ago, Sonic was in the shitter, but his last few games have been undeniably good, and there's no reason to assume Sega won't continue that trend with the latest game. Not when both the gameplay shown so far and the interview on IGN go so far to suggest that Sonic Team have finally cracked how to get Sonic to control well in 3D.Grape_Bullion said:Sorry if you feel slighted, but there is no denying that Sonic is nothing compared to what it once was. Because all games are only as good as you claim. Subjective opinion isn't a thing at all. Nope.If you like Sonic that's fine, I'm glad you like Sonic. But Sonic fans (read not specifically you, this is not an insult) have a tendency to paint the franchise a color it is certainly not.
Where are people claiming this is going to put Sonic back at the forefront of gaming? I think you're rather putting words in people's mouths there. All anyone seems to be hoping for is another good Sonic game. General consensus is that the last few were good, and people are hoping that this trend continues. As one of the veteran icons of gaming, Sonic certainly attracts a lot of nostalgia and long-term love, but I don't think anyone has suggested that this game is going to rocket Sonic to COD levels of success. Just that it would be nice to have another good Sonic game. Which is what this looks like. And it gets even worse when the game hasn't been released and some Sonic fans (again, read Sonic fans, not specifically you) claim it's going to bring the blue hedgehog back to the forefront of gaming (it never happens, not even slightly).
I keep telling you people that it's Mario Kart X Sonic & All-Stars Racing developed by Sumo Digital based on that one tweet from the guy at Sumo Digital but you just won't have faith that it could be something so awesome...Shoggoth2588 said:So now that we know what this is going to be and, we know about Mario & Sonic @ Sochi (which is the first Olympic game that looks appealing to me), all we can do is speculate on the third Sonic game Sega agreed to make with Nintendo. ...now that you mention it yes: I want Sega & Nintendo All-Star Racing. Sonic and Sega All-Star is a ton of fun but I don't want that + Mario, Toad, Luigi & Peach. I wanna see them take this thing all the way: Alex Kidd, Pitt, Ulala, Samus, Monster Hunter, Panzer-Dragoon...pilot(?)...that kinda thing.SkarKrow said:I keep telling you people that it's Mario Kart X Sonic & All-Stars Racing developed by Sumo Digital based on that one tweet from the guy at Sumo Digital but you just won't have faith that it could be something so awesome...Shoggoth2588 said:So now that we know what this is going to be and, we know about Mario & Sonic @ Sochi (which is the first Olympic game that looks appealing to me), all we can do is speculate on the third Sonic game Sega agreed to make with Nintendo. Seriously, that crossover needs to be a thing.
Or maybe we'll get that Mario & Sonic platformer people seem to keep demanding for some reason.
