Cult Classics? I've had a PS2 for ages and I can quite safely say I have never heard of any of those games.

If anyone's on the fence about Odin Sphere, I think it's well worth checking out. I'm a 2D side-scroller fan, and it's definitely one of the most gorgeous ones I've ever played. It's also one of the hardest, so you should be prepared to sink some time into it.

Count me in on the "Can I haz on Vita?" crowd. I really want the Vanillaware games, the only one I have is Muramasa on Wii. I prefer games on handhelds and don't have a PS3 yet, probably going to get a Vita over one if I get the chance.

why don't sony let me play them on the ps3 without me having to rebuy them again.
Hell, I'd even pay for a download of the emulator, as it is an extra feature.
@HUYI82: .. you answered your own question. Bolded for clarity.

@Mandalore_15: Except its not an extra feature. It was an original selling point that got removed with only the flimsiest of justifications.

So if they are selling PS2 titles on PSN can we finally say it? Sony removed PS2 functionality from PS3s not because of hardware/software limitations, but because the intention was to make people rebuy what they had already bought. With this there is now basically no chance that the stolen PS2 emulator (at least the software level) will never be restored. It was never about the hardware emulator being too expensive or the software emulator being insufficient. Its about money.

If you really want to play your Ps2 games so much, why not just play them on your Ps2? They aren't hard to find.
Except that PS2s themselves were not very durable and many of them broke over time, so theres not as many as one might think and for many people it would mean purchasing another PS2.

Also its important to recognize the difference of technology between then and now. Whereas many tvs are HDTV and many consoles are connected to HDTVs via HDMI ports, the PS2 is ran via antiquated RCA plugs that honestly really do a number on the A/V feed. So personally even buying a PS2 recently I would rather run a PS2 title through a PS3 than to run it through a PS2 simply because I would like to be able to see what the developers actually put there as opposed to over contrasted blurry images that represent what was originally put onto disc and hear the sounds without the added analog hum.

TL;DERP
It is what it always is, about money and how much more of yours Sony feels entitled to.

Well it would be an extra feature on my console, as it was never sold to me with the claim that an emulator was included.

does anyone else feel that Sony is now going the route of Nintendo and just re-releasing games? I mean, yeah they come out with new ones, but there seem to be a *lot* of old ones popping up lately...

Considering none of these are Sony's games, and Sony aren't releasing any of their games individually, not really. The games that are being released that are Sony's, however, are all the indie games developed with Sony's funding.
Granted they aren't made by them, but sony is still making a buck off them, and they're system specific. It's not exactly like Nintendo, but it's close enough to make me wonder.

That and sony has been angering me lately. I kinda want an xbox

Like I said, Sony are putting out a tonne of original, new and quite breathtaking content (seriously, look at Okuba. Just look at it) as well as allowing people to rerelease the old games that people loved before on their network. That way, everyones happy. People don't hate Nintendo for putting out old games, so much as never putting out new games. If Sony are still putting out great new games, whats the problem? You're upset a new generation of gamers who may not have had a Ps2 can experience these games?
No, don't get me wrong, I'm not upset at all. The more people that get to play more games, the better. I concede your point that Sony is still pumping out new games, which I guess I hadn't thought much on. The thing I was focusing on was that nintendo has yet to put out anything good (in my opinion) in a long time, and I failed to see that fact with sony, so i'll retract my original statement :)

God damn it! I thought I've tamed my recent gaming spending spree and now it's flaring up again!

Odin Sphere and GrimGrimoire will be mine! [sub]or at least the licenses will...[/sub]

There are still PSOne titles I want on PSN. Legend of Dragoon, Chrono Cross, Legend of Legaia, Suikoden 2, and many more. Come on Sony. Get some of those on the PSN. People would love it.

Anyway, this is pretty cool. I might have to pick up a few of them. Like Odin Sphere. Never played it, but it was always something I was curious about.
