I just want to point out that Microsoft and Sony have both said that they want their consoles to run for at least 10-12 years. That's 5-7 years way past the norm (5 Years is the standard based on all the Previous generations). My guess is, that since the XBox 360 and PS3 have basically been sold at a loss, they want to recoup as much money as possible. That, and I think that Microsoft and Sony are sort of hitting the top of what they can do, and are simply waiting for hardware to become both advanced and cheap (Cheap being the main purpose).Eternal_Lament said:It certainly doesn't make a whole lot of sense, especially this late into the cycle.
Hence why I said that this probably shows Sony's decision to possibly wait it out till 2016. I say late into the cycle as in it's late enough in that most people have already decided who to go with, it's unlikely that this would be the version that would bring in all the undecided onto Sony.Mr.Mattress said:I just want to point out that Microsoft and Sony have both said that they want their consoles to run for at least 10-12 years. OT: I don't care. Good for Sony, but the PS3 has nothing on it. I'm not spending money on a New PS3. That money is going to the WiiU.

did they do it for the PS2?

Not that I needed one. I still have the original fat arse one and it is still going strong. To put it into context since I got it 10-11 years ago I have had 3 PC, sent my PS3 into be repaied and had 1 360 blow up (smoke went everywhere, scared the crap out of my dog).
OT: Did anyone ask for or need this? Also let me be the one to ask the most important question. Have you included the safty switch at the back again? Removing it from the last models was a crime againt humanity!
To be fair the whole blowing up thing seems to be a problem only I have had. I got the red ring of death, sent it away to be fixed and it blew up 2 weeks after I got it back so someone must have messed up while fixing it.GonzoGamer said:Blow up?!
I heard about the rrod but I didn't hear about them exploding. Glad I dodged that bullet.
I too have a fat ps3 and while the hardware is obviously more reliable than the competition (granted, there's not a high bar there) sony hasn't supported it very well. I don't see the point in making a new model unless it's cheaper and if it's cheaper, they should give consumers a price drop.
Why would any Australian buy this? Have they stopped stocking the 2nd redesign of the PS3?ResonanceSD said:Uh, did the PAL regions piss off Sony or something?that sounds like a terrible deal for us.
Because they hadn't ever heard of Amazon? Idk, i'm genuinely confused.Evil Smurf said:Why would any Australian buy this? Have they stopped stocking the 2nd redesign of the PS3?ResonanceSD said:Uh, did the PAL regions piss off Sony or something?that sounds like a terrible deal for us.
Here here!Macgyvercas said:My 60GB model still works. And is backwards compatable to boot. Why should I buy another one?
Old Game Consoles are tougher I used to have a Game-cube and I can't remember how many times its been dropped and it still works, probably I don't have it because I have moved elsewhere but I wouldn't doubt if the thing still worked.GonzoGamer said:Blow up?!Gizmo1990 said:Yes it was called the PS2 slim.llubtoille said:I remember they did the same thing with the PSOne,

Fixed my 60G twice, and plans or replacing it unless the PS4 is backward compatible.Jove said:A total waste of time and money on Sony's part.
