And where are little sinners to hide?
Yup, confidentiality is becoming a major problem these days. Pretty soon doctors will start twittering their patients information.
You know, I'm pretty sure they won't have to, the patients will do it themselves.

Not that I'm disagreeing with you.

He's got a point, that's exactly what nerds do: Weed out the info so they have dibs on the knowledge. Even better if they shout it out early and then take some credit for it!

It's a major problem in this particular industry. With movies, most people can be paid to keep their mouth shut. With books, leaks hardly happen because there's only supposed to be two people that have read it: the author and the editor. With the games industry, full of whiny know-it-alls with inferiority complexes, it's a whole different ball game.

What I'm getting at is that there are are some people who just don't know when to shut up [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/7.117062.2204450]. And the games industry is the most likely place you'll find them.

It's not a problem with the industry, it's a problem with people in general. They just can't keep their damn mouths shut almost as if they feel it's their job to let everyone know "secret" information. Sad.
You build up the hype, people get curious. Plus, it's also Sony's fault. One of the workers could be that jerk who for example gave a sneak peek to a friend and the friend wanted to have that youtube fame.
Don't fire any employees before a major event and you won't have your info leaked. Muffin baskets add bonus protection :D

He also said that people with no financial stake in the matter should stop telling Sony to lower the price on the PS3 already, but c'mon, who really cares what he has to say? We all know they're going to lower the price. I mean, it came from a leak. It must be true!

What a stupid thing to say. The people buying your systems ARE your financial team. If the people are demanding a lower price on something, and those people are a decent majority, you lower the fucking price on it. It's not the company that sets the price, it's what the customer is willing to pay that sets the price. Right?..............Right?

I can honestly say that if the PS3 wasn't so damn expensive, I'd more than likely buy one. Not to mention the fact that I get the same exact games on 360, except for a given few. At this moment in time the PS3 doesn't look better, doesn't play better, and doesn't clean my house better. So there is no sense in me throwing down an extra 400-500 dollars on top of what I already did for my 360 at launch. If the price was 300-400, I may consider it.
Way to miss what he was saying. he's saying if YOU aren't earning money from it to shut your yap A.K.A. have you done a buisness course? No? Well Shut up then! analysts predict dropping the price by 450 even counting in the sales? leads to a $350 MILLION loss.

thats dropping it by $50!
Nice, way to determine my level of education before you even really got started. Way to pull numbers out of your ass. You seem to somehow know that dropping the price to $450 would cost them $350m. If you really did know this you would have provided evidence. Now I question your business knowledge.

A products price is only worth what a consumer is willing to pay. To some a PS3 is worth $500, and for the most part those people have bought it. Sales are still decent for the PS3, or the price would have dropped a long time ago, but in harder economic times $500 isn't as easy to come by as $300 for a 360 (obviously). Especially when you consider that most of the games library is the same.

I won't say they are shooting themselves in the foot for not lowering the price, but with customer demand as high as it is for a price drop, you can't just ignore that. It's stupid to come out and say to your potential customer base that you don't care about what they think because your paychecks would shrink, that's not overly smart in most books. If he had just kept his mouth shut, instead of saying what everyone knows, he wouldn't look like a douche.

Now for some simple math:
Jack sells Lemonade for 1.00 a glass. He averages 10 glasses a day at $.50 cost to him. So daily he makes $5. So one day he decides to lower his price to $.90 (a 10% price drop which is what is proposed for the PS3) a glass. Now customers that couldn't afford it before, can. To make up for his loss in money, and make $5 like he did before, he only needs to sell 13 (12.5, but he won't sell half a glass) glasses of Lemonade. Really, he doesn't need to sell many more to keep his profit where it is. But now he can overcharge you for all the extras like special cups that are re-usable that he paid 1/10 of the price for. (Yes, they do overcharge you for accessories. I worked for Best Buy and only had to pay 5% above cost, in this case I only paid about 50% of what you paid)

The money isn't in the console itself, it's in the accessories and games that they sell to go along with it.
