This would work well for a Mario game, don't you think? All those pipes.. and tunnels.. and castles...CantFaketheFunk said:"The dynamic lighting solution employed in GOW III is only feasible through the computing power provided by the Cell SPUs," said Backhouse. "For example, using the High Dynamic Range Lighting (HDRL) technology, the camera - when using Kratos' sightline - will emulate the human retina, causing players to feel a sharp brightness when Kratos exits a dark area and enters a sunlit area, similar to how the human eye would need to adjust."
Not only does this have little to no effect on gameplay (unless Kratos will be spending most of the game from a first-person view repeatedly entering dark and bright areas, which I doubt)...
This is likely true. I never knew there were so many greys in the world before GoW2. To render them all must be a hexidecimal nightmare! (Sony ARE still making games in HTML/ASCII, right?)Hamster at Dawn said:MS might as well say that Gears of War 3 wouldn't be possible on a PS3 because the PS3 can't generate enough different shades of gray.
Wasn't it Resident Evil 5 that did the exact same thing?CantFaketheFunk said:"The dynamic lighting solution employed in GOW III is only feasible through the computing power provided by the Cell SPUs," said Backhouse. Gabe Newell gladly shows it off in the audio commentary for Half-Life: Lost Coast, which was many moons ago.KSarty said:I'm probably gonna get flamed for PC Elitism, but HDR has been in quite a lot of PC games for several years now. The cell processor is not necessary.
PS3 only has ONE GRAPHIC CARD. The "RSX" GPU in the PS3 is literally a 7900GT at 550MHz with 8 ROPs disabled, and only 256MB of DDR3 1400MHz on a 128-bit memory bus. The Xbox 360 graphic card on the other hand, is more comparable to a x1950GT, which actually is a bit better than the 7900GT, which means the xbox 360 graphic card is way more superior than the ps3. The reason why the ps3 graphics look better is because the processor it uses can also be used to generate graphics, like a secondary graphics card.Mexican89 said:I love ps3, but yes i agree that is a horrible point to make. But i do believe that the ps3 could handle way more than the 360. it has 8 graphics processors, 7 of which are used for gaming. The 360 doesnt have anywhere near that amount of processing power.

Sony likes to say that the PS3 does "Everything", yet it isn't backwards compatable, has less than robust online play, and if "Everything" means "Also hard to program for", then they are right.
I think they're trying to appeal to a larger market by going on a console. It's just good business. Not everyone can afford the super-computer that's required for modern gaming graphics, but consoles are relatively cheap comparatively.RedMenace said:Hey guys, thers this thing called... damn, keep forgetting... oh yes! "Personal Computer" or "PC" for short. And I hear it can be more powerful than PS3. So if we go by your logic, should not GOW3 be a PC exclusive since it is so frigging heavy on a hardware?
