I wonder if it has 2 memory slots so I can keep saves on one card, other than that the price is going to be closer to 400 than 300...

Yes...because it having massive processing power alone will make it sell.
Sort of like the PS3...OH WAIT.

Seriously, that's some cool bit of tech. It would be nice if it retained its functionality, but I know, KNOW that Sony is going to neuter the system periodically when it gets hacked over and over again.

The ultimate deal-maker for me: Does it have games that I want?
Seems obvious, but with all of the bling being shown on display, it's easy to lose sight of what matters most.

Oh god, please say I'll have the option for regular control in games. I know they have dual anolog sticks and all but I'm worried taht I'll have to use touch screen if I want to play that Uncharted game. I don't like tough screen. I have really shaky, unsteady hands and I've spent about 15 years with traditional controllers, I don't want to have to learn how to game all over again.
Agreed, that would be the worst possible blunder in the history of games developing, one I highly doubt Naughty Dog is about to make with an IP as revered as Uncharted (it may be new, but I revere it heh). Just a guess, but I'm thinking the touch screen will be otional use for devs.
From IGNs impressions, the touch stuff is optional, it's just there if you want to play it that way. If devs can make games that utilize these new features properly and without much stupid gimmickry or hassle, I'm not too bothered. I'll just be glad if they give us an option to stick with standard controls.

Although the axis stuff might lend it self well in shooters, I can see Call Of Duty using it for lean function or more precise aim. That kind of stuff would be cool.

So, judging by what was written, can I assume it can't play PSP games? If that's the case, I'm afraid I'm going to have to pass. Unless they have some REALLY good titles on it.

Is it coming with a usb port?
there are just so many ways you can use those little buggers.
I would love being able to use portable hdd's instead of flash memory
Or plug in a dualshock 3 for playing those transfered games
Or hopefully (please sony) a disk drive for your ps2/dvd's

It looks gorgeous. I'm not usually one to say that about technology, but I really think it looks great! I bought a PSP after much debate and I'm already sold on the idea of this. Sure it'll be a whole month's pay, but a whole month's pay an a handheld that isn't completely redundant...

Oh no doubts I'm getting a 3DS too, but not the point. The NGP looks to have two well placed analogue sticks... unlike the 3DS retarded layout which has the analogue and D-pad on the same side with NO other controls on the other side...

*Sigh* really? 4 pages and nobody has said it? True, I skimmed the 3rd and 4th, so I may have missed it, but still...

Five Hundred Ninety-Nine US Dollars!

edit: Ok, someone did beat me to it.

I realise that. But technology by itself doesn't make for a good product. Innovation only has worth when it is aligned with utility, price and cost. And that is the problem with Sony; they pursue sustaining innovations at the cost of everything else....apparently, including their own financial wellbeing.
Replace "Sony" with "VALVe" or something and that would be considered positive, no? I'm a little confused on what you're saying here, so it's bad to innovate despite taking a few hits? If the PS3 proved anything, it's that Sony is willing to take a punch or two if it means success in the long run.

They are definitely pursuing this more smartly than the PSP Go....unfortunately, the fact that they are repeating the same mistake they made with the PS3 shows that they are not pursuing it smartly enough.
One, we still don't know the price point this will have, so I'd say that this argument is moot until more information is given. Two, if their current strategy with the PS3 and PSMove is anything to go by, I'd say they're going for the "Slow and steady wins the race" method right now. Time will tell if it will succeed, but as of right now it's working pretty well with the PS3 and somewhat with the Move.

They already confirmed that the PSP2 will not have a UMD drive. If it cannot run the media used by the previous handheld, it means it is not backwards compatible.
You could still probably use a flash drive to transfer your games to the new PSP, therefore it would have backwards compatibility.

I dunno, I'm just waiting for more information on it. It's much too early to be making calls on whether this will or will not succeed, but it does look like an interesting piece of tech. Time will tell if it pays off.

It's not backwards compatible with UMD-only games of course, but the digital PSP games will work on it if I recall correctly.

He envisioned a future where it would be possible to play a PS3 game, transfer it to your NGP so you could play it while you were out and about, and then transfer it back to your TV and PS3 when you got home.
He means that we can transfer actual PS3 games to that thing? OR to develop PS3 quality games to the thing?.

It sound pretty good thus far, but until I hear what I want to hear, and that is that the thing can emulate PS2 games, then I'll forget about the 3DS altogether and start saving for this.

You know, I'm sure I'm gonna get a death threat for pointing this out.... However, Sony likes to "rip-off" other companies ideas... Yes, it's true. Just like how the original Xbox controller was molded from a Dreamcast mace controller. I realize that if a feature is popular, it'd be dumb not to jump at going with what people want. That being said, as soon as I saw NGP, I noted that it's fairly simular to NDS, in that both the D/G, and S/P are three letters apart from each other. I find it humorous.

Regardless, I never liked the PSP for a lot of the same gripes I've heard commonly about it. Without having tried a "NGP," I hope it fixes enough of those issues to be helpful for my entertainment needs. Also a good price. The 3DS' poor reported battery life gives me a frown, but I love tech, so here's hoping they smother this system in awesomeness.

Best of luck to them. Hope to see some decent competition resulting in both companies coming out stronger.

The 3DS is going to be the most awesome portable system EVER! It has such great graphics (so did the PSP), they ported actual CONSOLE games to it :O (isn't that one of the things you use to hate about the PSP?) and the 3D sounds just awesome! ('Any console that uses 3D is stupid because we don't need such a cheap gimmick. That is why the PS3 sucks and the Wii rules' weren't those you're exact words?)
It might be 250$ bucks, but it's very powerful so that makes it worth it! (Didn't you also say that superior hardware is not as important as a small price tag?)

That is basically a discussion I had with a co-worker a few weeks ago.
Now that the new PSP got announced his first comment was "Huh! No 3D? SONY SUCKS! =))". Does anyone else sense something wrong here? The sad part is that a LOT of people on a LOT of forums agree with him.
And people ask me why I think Nintendo Fanboys are hypocrites.
Maybe he meant 3D with glasses? I don't care for the glasses (I wear glasses normally and I don't like having to wear contacts to get the effect), but I'm excited to see how it looks without them.

Other than that, your co-worrker is a bit of a hypocrite (Of course, not all of us Nintendo diehards are). Better graphics are nice, but it should not be a priority for a handheld--works out nicely for me since I'd be playing them at home where I can make sure there's no glare and can recharge as soon as it is necesary, but it kind of sucks for people hoping for round-trip plane entertainment. My guess would be that Nintendo is altering its strategy since so many of the "hardcore" crowd won't go near their products.

I haven't been following the news of the PSP2 that much. Are there any rumors--or, better yet, confirmation--to a portable PSN to counter the 3DS's virtual console?
