It looks decent it has two sticks and a touch screen.

I dunno part of me wants it but another part of me really doesn't beliefs it. I am happy to see Two Analogue Sticks that is to say the least true. And yes that OLED screen meaning that it is easier to see in different light conditions. So nice.. So nice

Yet the promises that scream out, as powerful as the PS3, how foolish that be. For time is infinite yet finite, but battery life isn't. I worry that such power comes at a hefty cost. Yet it looks pretty good and the idea in part is good.

I reserve Judgement for time to tell. Will it join the awkward of the Well!

It puzzles me, sometimes, that the 3DS and the PSPgo launched (or will launch) with the exact same MSRP and yet got such incredibly different reactions. And I'm not talking about the bits of functionality that the PSPgo lacked that irritated reviewers, I'm just talking about that visceral reaction to the pricetag.

It also kinda shocks me when people call the PSP a "flop". Yeah, 62 million units sold, I can see why Sony wouldn't want to make another one... /sarcasm. Sure, it didn't sell as well as the DS, but that's still quite a profitable slice of the market.

As for this one... It will depend heavily on price, I expect, but with the 3DS launching at $250, that gives them a fair justification to charge at least that much. Much over $300 and I don't see it succeeding particularly well, though.

Of course, Sony could throw down the gauntlet early and launch it at $200, and wouldn't that be interesting...
It is sad but gamers and probably more non-gamers then I would like to admit, only see things as win or lose, nowadays.

Your not a success until you have crushed the current guy on top and sent him crying home to his mommy.

While it does look sleek and "Sexy", and the technical specs are nice, it all depends on the games released on it, my friends. While Nintendo seems to Have gotten every 3rd party developer on board with the 3DS, I think Sony will have a struggle getting Companies to side with it, because the PSP itself wasn't a huge seller, and companies don't wanna loose money when it comes to gaming.
This list would like to have a word with you:
http://www.siliconera.com/2011/01/27/these-third-party-developers-are-backing-sonys-ngp/
I didn't know about 3/4ths of the developers on the list... So... I dunno to say to that... The 1/4th I knew about basically put everything on every console though (With the exception of Square Enix).
That's still beside the point. They still are getting a lot of backing from third parties which you doubted. Just trying to show some interesting info pertaining to that sort of skepticism. There is bound to be more developers to hop on as well, not knowing some of them doesn't exactly hurt the credibility at all.

Hopefully this means more uses for connectivity to the PS3. PSP let me down in the remote play department. Such a wasted potential.

I just hope they don't cut that out entirely.

Not really, imagine that the two analogs control movement and aiming while the reverse touchpad makes the camera spaz out when someone bumps you on the subway and the otion control makes your character perform seppuku.

Just joshing i actually am genuinely interested in this.

Oh well, to Sony's credit, at least they were smart enough to drop the awkward UMDs, although that isn't going to help them much at this point...If anything, the lack of backwards compatibility with the PSP library is just going to hurt them even more.
Remember, by and large, Sony is a tech company, they are not exclusively a game company, of course they're going to push for technological innovations, whether one considers them "smart" or otherwise.
I realise that. But technology by itself doesn't make for a good product. Innovation only has worth when it is aligned with utility, price and cost. And that is the problem with Sony; they pursue sustaining innovations at the cost of everything else....apparently, including their own financial wellbeing.

From the sound of the specs, and the release schedule, I think that Sony has put a bit much in this project and are probably going to handle this smarter than the PSPGo.
They are definitely pursuing this more smartly than the PSP Go....unfortunately, the fact that they are repeating the same mistake they made with the PS3 shows that they are not pursuing it smartly enough.

And backwards compatibility has neither been confirmed nor denied, unless you can provide links or something (The USB stick thing could be used for transfers and whatnot).
They already confirmed that the PSP2 will not have a UMD drive. If it cannot run the media used by the previous handheld, it means it is not backwards compatible.
Who's to say they won't upload the most popular psp games onto the PS store? Its already confirmed the NGP can play PSP games it just needs to get them off the PS store.

It apparently plays digitally downloaded PSP games you've bought from PSN.
Indeed, but that isn't backwards compatibility in a traditional sense. I imagine that the PSP2 will probably emulate PSP games, sort of like how PSX games were playable on the PSP.

Either way, that is of little use for the majority of PSP owners who primarily have a gaming library consisting of UMDs.

I'm not going to lie, Sony has a tendency to overexaggerate things. When they say that it could rival the PS3 in terms of graphics it just makes the PS3 look bad or the NGP look like bullshit.

Actually it's more of a perspective issue. It takes immense processing power to project a high esolution image over an area over 20 inches but not nearly so much for a viewing area of only five inches. A good analogy is a postage stamp. If you look at postage stamps the look fine but if you try to blow it up it looks horrible and vice versa a giant poster shrunk down to postage stamp size may have many fine details but you would need a magnifying glass to see it. Clever programmers who are skilled, dedicated, given plenty of time and willing to sacrifice their souls to Satan should be able to program a game to run on both systems by tweaking the resolution and various other bits of program to make the game appear nearly identical on the handheld.

An interesting idea would be to have the new psp also function as the most awesomely expensive controller since the Xbox Steel Battalion [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steel_Battalion] controller.

You see, if I gave a shit about Sony games and graphics this might have made my decision of what handheld to buy tougher. As it stands, I don't give a shit about the specs or back touch screen which will no doubt be awkward as hell to use.

Now that just looks sexy. Still, I highly doubt that thing has the processing power of the PS3. If it does, fair play to Sony, but I just don't see it happening.
It's not as powerful as the PS3 but because it just has to render for a 5 inch screen it looks as good. An analogy would be dropping a V4 engine into a big truck, it would have very weak performance because it has to lug a lot of weight but slap it into a motorcycle and you have a crotch rocket because the power to weight ratio is much better.

An impressive machine, but we all know it will cost an arm and a leg. I'll literally eat these words if the thing is less than $300 (don't ask me how, I'll find a way).

Is it just me or does ot look pretty damn ugly, I probably will buy it. It will probably cost an arm and a leg and it is only digital downloads and considering my internet connection is slower than a snail riding on a rock it will take a whole day to download one of the games.

Also Motion Controls is an absolutly retarded idea for a handheld but the damn specifications and the fact that I love the original PSP is the reason im going to buy it despite the probability it might go the way of the N-Gauge.
I think that's why they slapped in a 3G antenna for people with poor landline connections. I live in a city with 4G so I can get faster speeds through WiFi

Why just like touch pads on laptops.
Except I use my hands to hold my PSP aloft. And my hands usually find their way onto the back of the device to support it.

It would be like having to constantly have your fingers on the laptop touch pad. If you're moving them around it might be a bit difficult to keep it balanced or straightened

That's how I figured it'd be. I was just expressing disbelief at the idea of it being a miniature PS3 with a built-in screen.

DO WANT!!!

Seriously though, I love my PSP, even if it is slightly dead right now (I really should get round to buying some spares for it...)

This is a definite purchase for me. Looks like I'll be getting both the NGP and the 3DS

disappointed, was hoping for backwards compatibility since the analog stick on my psp broke.
may well buy one of these, until it broke I got a lot of joy out of my psp.
I also think they should have stuck the ability to phone and text on it and released it as a phone.
