Seriously, costs for changing your password? "Oh no, I spent ten whole seconds of my life changing my password. I demand a thousand dollars for each second." This is crazy. Now, if the hackers did manage to get credit card info, then okay. However, that has yet to be proven. And I doubt Sony failed to put in any more safe guards than any other place that gets personal info. This is getting out of hand. At this rate, Sony is going to go out of business and none of us will get our PS3 back online.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Instead of attacking Sony for something that they could only defend against so much--face it, if a hacker targets something, it's only a matter of time before it's hacked--how about putting all this effort into finding the hackers and kill--I mean, make them pay.

This is making me wonder if a hacker did this to feign "data stolen" just so that Sony could get their ass kicked.
That's my theory.

Hope Sony wins the case.
As do I.
I was thinking this too. Especially with the stuff with GeoHotz, I think this breach was designed by the hacker just to give Sony a shitstorm. And since there was no evidence that they took credit card numbers, I think its more of a statement than anything. And even if they did have credit cards, what are they going to do with 70 million credit card numbers?

Oh god another fucking lawsuit >.< Like we haven't had enough of those in the world.

Honestly, I do blame Sony for what happened. I do feel Sony should give compensation.
Here is a list of things that I feel Sony would need to do, to compensate for their actions:

1) figure out what the fuck happened, and figure out how the hackers got in.
2) fire the fucker who left such a glaring security hole in the server.
3) hire someone competent to take his place.

If they followed these three steps, I would be happy. They don't have to give me money. They don't have to defend themselves. They fucked up, and they can fix it, and that's all I care about.

Time to quit my job and live off of the severance I will get from this law suit.

Certainly each PSN user deserves the standard 1 million dollar payout for grievance.

If anon really fights for the gamers, they should investigate into this and hack the hacker

How has no one twigged, this probably isn't one hacker. You don't get 77 million user details without having a big thing to store their details on.

Hmmm Sony is starting to remind me of another company that ran itself into the dirt trying to support a billion models of the same system, while trying to maintain a "cutting edge" personality. Here's a hint, this other company is also 4 letters long and starts with an "S", and has a very blue logo.

This is just an observation fellow SEGA fans please don't murder me, I own a 32X and have a pair of Sonic boxers.

Sony stock is going to be hit hard... Good for us users suffering from it, bad for Sony. I almost feel sorry for whoever they catch over this.

People now know exactly where you live.....

Oh yes poor sony and their potential loss of profit.
If you(some, whoever) people care more about potential hampering of sony release dates than loss of extremely private information, which could in theory be used to infict massive financial damage to a family or person, or worse, you clearly have fucked priorities and no amount of arguing and use of complicated words ( which seems to be a rather common thing here) will change that fact.

I have a PS3, I haven't used its online in a while, and its at my other house so I basically have to wait 2 days before I can stem any further damage to my identity and finance, if thats even possible at this point. Yet people still claim that its because of greed and the american stereotype( To my american friends I apologize they said it not me :p) in doing so claim that it would be wrong for a person with a gold level visa to demand 25,000 back from sony after someone had used their card for a large purchase( or many small ones), which is hand in meat grinder retarded.

TL:DR Sony dun fucked up, gimmeh my money back

EDIT: Oh boys me thinks I'm going to buy me some stock once this shit bottoms out :D that ought to cover me losses

Nothing seems to be going right for Sony right now. I mean...damn...
I'm sure they haven't earned this much in retribution right? They didn't have this much bad karma stacked up.

PSN failing, people not able to trust them, they probably lost a bunch of gaming customers in this. Now I feel sorry for them.

Someone needs a hug...

I really don't think Sony should have the gun pointed at them before we even know the exact situation.
They got hacked, it's not like they spoon-fed the hackers the information.

Thank goodness Sony actually had the bravery to tell people what they knew even if they did wait a little while to access the problem (honestly they may have been as dumbfounded as everyone else, probably more so.)
That's just good customer service, keeping their clients in the know and everything.

They really shouldn't be blamed for getting HACKED. I mean really, it's not as if they just threw information into a wolf den; they were basically attacked. That's like saying that it's the victim's fault for being mugged.
See my first comment

Also, as previously mentioned earlier in the topic, why are lawyers suing on behalf of every PSN user? I for one never consented for them to represent me and I can safely say that not everyone wants to sue Sony into potential bankruptcy.
THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS, so much.

Honestly, I want Sony to find out who is at fault, and get THE HACKER(S) brought to justice. And possibly yell at the head of security for a little while.

Also, I just want to know if I need to cancel my card (which I just activated a week before the outage). Because when I bought stuff on the PSN, I never saved my card info (basically for this reason). I'd hate to have to go through the process of ordering a new card so soon... especially since I can't stand half the people who work the phones for credit card companies. I swear most of them aren't even fluent in English... but that's a personal rant. And either way I'm watching my credit card online, and if I see something I didn't buy on there, I'm canceling it ASAP. Good thing it has $250 limit on it.

One last thing: I don't care about them having my other information.

There's dozens of people with the same name as me
My address is in the phone book
I can block numbers from my phone (and I outright ignore them if I don't recognize the number)
Purchase history? What are they gonna use with a handful of demos and 5 PS1 games?
Email Address? apart from signing up for stuff, I don't use it anymore.
Only thing I'm concerned about is my credit card info, which I never saved on the PSN (I purchased with it, but I had to type it in every time I decided to buy something)

Oh for the love of God... If anything, this will only make things worse for the gamers (PS3 gamers like me that is). Just stop this bullshit. Find the hacker, sue HIM instead, repair the PSN. Please.

Use them to make clone cards and withdraw a crapload of money from ATMs?

And unfortunately, it's still a major financial hit, considering that they sell more games and PS3's than anything else by a large factor.
