Sony: PlayStation Move Better Than Mouse & Keyboard

Um... no. Microsoft said that the Kinect could be just as good as a mouse and keyboard and that was also bullshit. No chance in heck that WiiMote 2.0 is going to be able to be as good as a mouse and keyboard.

I'm betting you 90% of the games are cheap party games that make you do a stupid waggle. Even the ones which don't need you to do that are still a pointless gimmick in my eyes. There's nothing which can make this more effective than a keyboard.
Well not with your bias in the way, that's for sure.
And motion controls have nothing to do with cheap, crappy games.
Every system, regardless of method of control, sees a pile of crappy games every year.

Personally, I love the idea of playing an RTS with motion controls.
Every see Minority Report? I want that. That would be awesome.
But we won't get there if we don't experiment and try new things.

This is one thing that baffles me: Gamers love to ***** and moan about how uncreative developers and publishers and the 'big three' are, but when they try to make new things new, gamers ***** about how awful and stupid it is. We've barely scratched the paint of the potential of motion controls, and people are already writing it off.

You know what I'm reminded of? That scene in Back to the Future: Part 2 where Marty goes to play 'Wild Gunmen' in that diner in the future. He shows off how awesome he is, and some kid says "You have to use your hands? That's a baby's toy!". We aren't going to just leap into future technology. This isn't TV where we can throw in a montage and suddenly we've got holodecks and VR gaming. It takes time, experimentation, and exploration.

It also takes some willing, open-minded participation from people who aren't stubbornly clinging onto the past like some 80 year old politician campaigning for the "good 'ol days". Geez louise, people. At least try to step forward.
Definitely agree with this. Even on the Wii, the actions you do are deliberate and have specific results (I'm speaking about the good games I've purchased not the crap ones I avoid). The motions are often analogous to pressing a button anyway, except instead of pressing, you swipe the controller to the side or whatever. I'm not sure why people complain about having to wave their arms like an idiot because if they're doing that, they're probably not playing right. Hell, sometimes people button-mash, does that mean we should write off the traditional controller as a button-mashing waste of time? Of course not.

Anyway, thanks for voicing your support. That attitude always annoys me as well and we need these first steps.

If the wand was as smooth as the mouse. It would be playing RTS with a keyboard with way less buttons.

NO! Sony, you forgot your flamesuit! NOOOOO!!! IT'S TOO LATE!!!

I wouldn't knock this until I try it. Now that I think about it, a RTS hasn't been tried on the Wii, has it? You could do a point and click by actually pointing at the screen and pressing a button. Don't know how accurate it would be, but it COULD work, in theory at least.

Hmmm. Well, I'll give it a shot. I use a few hotkeys. I label my armies, and my TC. But those are the only ones I use, and I am fine playing on the hardest modes.

But I will have to see this in action. I have yet to play an RTS that really works on a console without being stripped down. But, if you say you can do it, go for it. I'll try it out at least once before I make up my mind.

Mouse and Keyboard have the advantages of "hotkeys", a mouse wheel, plus there's being able to sit doewn and rest your arms on a table. With the console motion sensors, you're waving your arms around constantly and generally looking like a twit.

Ok Sony time to put down the crack pipe and step away from the rock. I am a console player through and through and even I think move will not help RTS's on the consoles. I can't see how using the wand will be easy. You need precision and holding a wand like that I don't see it being easy enough to handle properly.

LOL... I can't imagine performing at 100 APM, with those glowing dildos. Or even doing some basic Blink micro. So how will this top the Mouse & Keyboard set-up? Heck, even the iPad has a better chance than the Move motion controller.

90% of the people in this thread are not talking about the possibility of a motion controlled rts, they're just flaming on Move.

If Move is precise, no-lag 1:1, which to my best observances so far is, they could be right. Developing an rts to use move effectively will be the real challenge. Trolls will hate on them for branching away from normal control schemes, and if they decided to throw a keyboard in the mix to make the transition easier, trolls would hate on them for "just using the same controls as a computer but with a dildo in one hand". It's a double-edged sword really.

If SC/SC2 would be released on a PS3, and would have PS Move support, Zerg Rushing may be impossible in that platform.

Noooooope.

Mouse & Keyboard will always be better at first-person and... Second-person.[footnote]That's what an RTS is, right?[/footnote]
No Second person would be controlling your forces while in the viewpoint of the enemy. Essentially first person is the character, second person is the opposite character and third person is a fly on the wall viewing the first person.

Someone needs to make a second person mod or something, how crazy would a MP be if you saw it through the eyes of the enemy player.

oops, sorry about double post instead of edit :(
Wish granted :D

Also they said that it would feel better to use the Move. None of us (or me at least) are as good at those Korean pro RTS gamers. For pople that want to start out with RTS games it could definately be a good device.

Even though you advertised Move as "having buttons", You still DON'T HAVE ENOUGH for a deep RTS. Good try, though.
