There are many things that are free too, you know, like hepatitis, bird flu, flash floods, bee stings....

This is just Sony being incompetent as ever. Their online network is without direction, without security, and without ambition. If $60 a year (which is actually more like $30-$40 if you know where to get it) grants me the closest thing to seamless perfection when it comes to online gaming, I will happily pay for it. I get my DLC when it is promised, I don't have to worry about my account credentials getting hacked or distributed in any way, I never have to wonder if a game has VOIP coded into it (I am free to be in a party and chat even while playing a completely different and single-player game), and the best part for me (and this is only me) is that XBL integrates with Zune, and since I own and love my Zune HD, everything seamlessly works with it (especially the Zune Store).

There are lots of things that cost money too, like a traffic ticket, dentist, and the Spice Girls complete collection CD box set.

But like I was saying PSN is still better then Xbox live.

I have a friend who constantly whines about how 360 gets DLC first and whatever else. I told him that Sony often takes a while to approve DLC and so they get it last. Usually he responds with, "FUCK X BOX!" Agreed, I'm on my 75th X Box. But that doesn't change the fact that however they approve content at Sony is fucking slow. Goddamned fanboy jackoff.

nope, by my understanding the PS3 has better hardware, so it was logical to assume the 'built in PS2 emulator costing to much' was a flimsy cop out.
The PS3 has more powerful and totally different hardware. Doesn't mean it can run a perfect PS2 emulator (in fact, it can't).

The backwards compatibility was provided courtesy of a chip that Sony had managed to cram the entire PS2 hardware onto (not an emulator - the actual hardware). Extremely clever of them, but also expensive.

If you're Sony, which business decision would you make:

a) Get rid of BC and drop the price of the PS3 by over $100, thus opening the platform to a much larger user base, or

b) Keep the PS3 at a high price so it can keep the BC, and make less than 1% of the total PS3 users happy.

It's just common sense. Sorry you're so upset about it, but it's not a war on backwards compatibility... just a good business decision.

As one of the rare breed that does indeed play ME3 on the PS3 I'm not really bothered by this. I do enjoy the mutliplayer and it would be great to be involved in these promos, but I wont lose any sleep over not getting them. I can still play the game and that's what matters.
shhh more than you think

Then your understanding is completely fucking wrong. You obviously have no idea what "software emulation" means, a PS2 emulator within PS3 hardware is not the same thing as slapping a PSX emulator on your modern computer.

And yes, this is the "whinging" guy from the Tekken thread, the one you so proudly said "I'ma laugh at".

I'll take that as a "yes I was totally wrong", then.

Let's get something straight, because it's obvious you have a serious fucking issue with reading. If you bothered to read what I said before spewing your immature "OMG OMG OMG DEVELOPER IS PISSY" bullshit, you'd say what I actually said is that REGARDLESS of why devs put in DRM, the more and more people break into games like this, the more and more DRM you're going to see. So see them as a hero today, but watch as tomorrow they're the reason why your DRM games become even more fucking annoying.

Holy crap, you're hard to get through to.

EDIT: I don't work for any game company, and if I was to pick, it sure as fuck would not be Capcom.

I'd thought that obvious, but clearly I'm not the only one with reading issues

should hope not, Capcom is pretty much all about making shitty games and ripping people off now.

so i'm supposed to feel bad this guy is 'sad' some hackers broke his code and got a hold of content that was broken off just so they could make more money on over priced content? really? major gaming company treat US like thieves and criminal when we buy legit, break off content to rip people off, and force DRM on us that SERVES NO PURPOSE AT ALL, it doesn't stop pirates, hell i donno what its good for, it's just in the way.

and you are wrong, very very wrong, if piracy and 'game breaking' stopped today and all such things vanished from the net, DRM would not go away, at all, we'd still be stuck with it, and they'd probably make it worse regardless. these company's AREN'T ON OUR SIDE, THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT US, when are you going to figure that out. they don't care at all it takes you an hour's worth on BS downloads, and dicking around with DRM, making a NEW and totally unnecessary account just to play the fucking thing, all they care about is you bought it. but no .... people like you have the gall to act like its all the gamers fault things are as bad as they are .... it's not, it's EVERYONES fault. it's our fault for letting things get this bad, it's they've fault for over reacting to a set of problems that are ether less damaging then they say or just aren't really a problem at all, not to mention getting greedy and trying to act like they own us with all this 'make an account' bullshit

at this point people break into games like this because of the bull shit these company's are pulling, and getting away with, and people are fucking tired of it. the hackers might not be in the right, but I'll side with them over a group of people that have the gall to call me a pirate for buying used, and treat me like I'm some how their property.

but feel free to keep on enjoying your delusion though /venom soaked reply

Well now, don't stress yourself out too much now.
Also the Dreamcast one was pretty awesome, limited due to dial-up, but better then Xbox Live.

I mean it had Phantasy Star Online for free.

Its really a silly move for Sony not to allow the promotional weekend. But EA announced that the first dlc pack would come to xbox live earlier than to the Playstation Network. This can be sony´s way to "tell them" they didn´t like that move. But i guess they are only harming they´re own users with this ...
Their own FREE users. The people who would otherwise be putting extra stain on their servers, and who have instead decided not to bother. :p

This promotion would only help the Mass Effect and Xbox folks, there's no profit in it for Sony, only cost and work. No wonder they decided to pass on doing it.

"wall of text to substitute my inability to read or comprehend simple logic
Let me break it down to you in super idiotically simple terms, since you're so infernally convinced you know what I'm saying that you've gone completely nuts.

Let's take a look at the process:

1) Game publishers/devs add DRM (for whatever fucking reason, monetary greed, preventing second hand sales, or piracy)

2) End users hack into games like this and everyone is all proud of them

3) Game developers/publishers see their DRM broken

Do you REALLY think #4 will result in game publishers removing DRM? You'd love to think so, I'm sure, but no, they answer is that they will simply add MORE and MORE DRM until playing video games becomes a fucking nightmare. These companies aren't ever going to be let it known that they can be pushed around by pirates and hackers (this isn't my opinion, this is just the truth) and for that reason will never buckle, EVEN IF THEY SHOULD.

So once again, for the fourth goddamn time, I'm not "telling you to feel sorry" for anyone. I'm warning you that the people you consider to be freedom fighters and "proud of them", they're going to be the reason your gaming experience just gets worse in the future, in the same way that anonymous will make your life on the internet hell if they keep going with trying to "liberate us" and fight for freedom or whatever they claim to be doing by DDoSing police websites.
