Interesting, because my "slim" PS3 stopped reading Blu-rays a few months ago. Between that and the downtime, I played a bit of Fat Princess / Castle Crashers, and my daughter finally beat Costume Quest, but for the most part I've been using it as a PS1 with near-infinite "memory cards".. and I've realized that for the most part, the old games are just better. I don't even really miss the damn Blu-ray anymore.
..except for LBP 2 (and, by extension, LBP.. but I can't really go back to its inferior "create" mode now that I've cut my teeth on the cool stuff.. can I?)
Should I take advantage of a free LBP download, since it'll run fine off the hard drive, knowing that I'll probably just start jonesing for the sequel, and likely end up blowing the money on restoring the Blu-ray capability? Or should I wash my hands of modern consoles and keep going as I have been lately: spending my gaming-time and -money on cool card games and board games which bring me together with friends and family?
If they were offering LBP2 for free download instead of the first one, it'd be easy: shelve or sell my other PS3 games, frak the gorram Blu-ray, and have some cake and eat it too.
Uh, but yeah.. regardless of my insignificant "problem", I guess this is a reasonably cool way to "make it up" to people. Infamous is supposed to be pretty good, right? I never really understood why everyone felt so betrayed by the downtime (it was pretty damn easy for me to get a new credit card), but if almost a month of online gaming is so important to people that they'd turn their backs on their liege-lord Ser Sony, I figure a couple of free games will bring them back on bended knee. So, uh.. good job?
