Damn, Sony's going all out on this one. I was in the crowd that thought we were only going to get some leftover indie games, not AAA games. I mean, LBP and inFamous? Those games are freaking great. Too bad I already own them...

Oh well, I guess I'll just go with Dead Nation and Wipeout HD. And if PSP is counted separately than the PS3, I'll pick up two of them, too.

Seriously, at this point, Sony's proven to me that they're serious about making amends for this slip-up. I never really blamed them for this (except maybe for how long it took them to respond to it), but this is welcome none the less.

Now, if they could only catch the hackers that did this shit in the first place, all would be right with the world.

So boys and girls, is this timely show of generosity enough to win back whatever PlayStation brand-loyalty you may have had before the nearly month-long PSN outage [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109448-PSN-Down-Worldwide-Is-Anonymous-to-Blame], or was that time enough to drive you forever into the electronic embrace of Sony's competitors?
Thanks for asking; I'll tell you: I'm sticking with Sony.

These are fine gestures. They earn my patience and goodwill by humbling themselves and showing it's their obligation to us right now that will allow them to survive the low that hubris brought upon them. I hope they go on and continue to apply this lesson for a good while.

...And what are the people who already have these games supposed to do??? Nothing forgiven, Sony.

I mean really I owned and beat Infamous, LBP is great but the sequel is already out, and the rest of the game aren't even blips on my radar, I'd rather they just gave me 20$ to buy whatever I wanted. Also free clothes in that feature that noone uses...again refer to the picture above. Also if I could keep the PSN+ content I would be happy, but the moment it expires I won't be allowed to access any of the content. Overall this is like getting stuff you'll never use for Christmas, sure the thought's nice doesn't mean the presents particularly useful. Am I happy with the gifts yeah I appreciate the thought and I'm glad the PSN is back up but otherwise I'm annoyed.

Remember though, that as soon as the store comes back online, there's gonna be a LOT of people scrambling to download these games. It'll most likely overload the servers, so maybe wait a few days before going to download your games. Unless Sony does the graduated online thing, where they bring certain regions online a few at a time.

Good enough for me.

I never asked much from Sony because of this, while they handled the fall out poorly, the hack wasnt there fault. A token gesture is all I really wanted. I was hoping for maybe 1 free download of a game of my choice, but eh... this is good enough.

The wording is strange here.

Can I pick only two games from that entire list, or can I get two for my PS3 and two for my PSP?

damn that free list sucks balls. theyre just giving out games that are old and like 20 bucks at gamestop. they should at least give back users peace of mind
Awesome get 2, you just saved $40. Sony just saved you money and are dishing out free entertainment. Least they're trying to make ammends
i think people would feel more vaulved and appreciated if they got newer games
well, lets take a look at what we are getting. everybody is getting 30 days of ps+ and people who already had it are getting an extra 30 days on top of that. They are offering 5 free games for both the psp and the ps3. and on top of that we are getting identity protection for a year that covers up to one million dollars.

now, keep in mind this is all for 70 million people.

I feel pretty good about it. stop being so ungrateful, they didn't need to do anything.

Littlebigplanet and WipEout HD. I'd download inFAMOUS, but I've already beaten that game 3 and a half times, and I platinum'd too.

Interesting, because my "slim" PS3 stopped reading Blu-rays a few months ago. Between that and the downtime, I played a bit of Fat Princess / Castle Crashers, and my daughter finally beat Costume Quest, but for the most part I've been using it as a PS1 with near-infinite "memory cards".. and I've realized that for the most part, the old games are just better. I don't even really miss the damn Blu-ray anymore.

..except for LBP 2 (and, by extension, LBP.. but I can't really go back to its inferior "create" mode now that I've cut my teeth on the cool stuff.. can I?)

Should I take advantage of a free LBP download, since it'll run fine off the hard drive, knowing that I'll probably just start jonesing for the sequel, and likely end up blowing the money on restoring the Blu-ray capability? Or should I wash my hands of modern consoles and keep going as I have been lately: spending my gaming-time and -money on cool card games and board games which bring me together with friends and family?

If they were offering LBP2 for free download instead of the first one, it'd be easy: shelve or sell my other PS3 games, frak the gorram Blu-ray, and have some cake and eat it too.

Uh, but yeah.. regardless of my insignificant "problem", I guess this is a reasonably cool way to "make it up" to people. Infamous is supposed to be pretty good, right? I never really understood why everyone felt so betrayed by the downtime (it was pretty damn easy for me to get a new credit card), but if almost a month of online gaming is so important to people that they'd turn their backs on their liege-lord Ser Sony, I figure a couple of free games will bring them back on bended knee. So, uh.. good job?
