Well, at first I was kind of terrified that this bill was actually even being considered.

Then I looked up the pro-SOPA ads I've heard people talking about, and now I just can't stop laughing. They're hilarious. Hilariously terrifying.
... Now I don't know what to feel.
Does one say, "SOPA: It'll clean the internet"? If not, what the hell? They're missing out an easy one.

This [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVVbVCAncLM] is what I imagine will happen if this passes. (From the beginning of the video, to about 20ish seconds.)
That's exactly what I'd imagine happening. Either that or something like Linkin Park's video for "Shadow of the Day" where Chester is walking through the streets of NY during a violent riot. Here [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1PCW0C1aiM&ob=av2n]

His name is Senator Ron Wyden. He's going to read a list of names straight off the internet to filibuster the bill.

Edit: Go to stopcensorship.org to sign the petition and see a video of him basically saying everything we've been saying about the bills XD

It's just a matter of time until the old polticians die out and are replaced by new ones that grew up with technology, until that, we have to be patient.

Well according to the email I just got from Reddits petition, they cancelled their vote and disbanded for the year.

BREAKING NEWS: Because of immense public pressure, the House Judiciary Committee cancelled their vote on the bill that would kill Internet innovation and free speech -- and adjourned for the rest of the year!

Over the last 36 hours, over 97,000 people like you signed our joint petition with reddit against this bill, and thousands more called their representatives. The Internet fought back to protect the Internet -- and we won, for now.

We now need to assemble our Internet army for next year, when this bill will come up again. Can you help us reach 100,000 signers on the petition?

Click here to spread the VICTORY! news and share the grassroots petition on Facebook.

(Then, pass this email on to friends so they can sign the petition here.)

Our petition got a ton of attention in Washington, DC. Here's what some leading news outlets reported yesterday:

Washington Post: "The Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Reddit have been pushing a campaign arguing that SOPA, as written, would harm future innovation."

Roll Call: "A flurry of liberal and conservative groups issued last-minute pleas in the hours before the House Judiciary Committee prepared to vote on its latest version of a controversial intellectual property bill, known as the Stop Online Piracy Act.

'Join @reddit and PCCC (@BoldProgressive) in saving the Internet!' the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, a liberal advocacy group, tweeted urging followers to sign an online petition opposing the bill. The missive was paired with a letter signed by the founders of Twitter, YouTube and other tech giants."

But the fight is far from over -- big corporations are still pushing hard for this bill. We won the battle with today's delay, but we still have to win the war against Internet censorship.

Click here to spread today's VICTORY news and share the petition with your friends on Facebook.

(Then, pass this email on to friends so they can sign the petition here.)

Thanks for taking action. Our action together made a big difference!

-- Jason Rosenbaum, Progressive Change Campaign Committee (J-Ro on reddit) and Erik Martin, reddit General Manager
Cool. I already gave my signature, so it shouldn't be too hard to get more if we get spreading the word.

So the battle was won but the war may have to wage on.

Two things that need to be done soon. First a time machine, secondly a way to prolong human life(in case person sent back in time misses intended period)

I'm becoming more and more of the opinion that your average politician couldn't make a sandwich without a flow-chart and an action team and has to be kept away from sharp objects so that they don't accidentally stab themselves or others.

The saddest part of this is nothing will ever change until, for lack of a better word, the baby boomers die off and the 21st century generation takes its place in Congress.

Not America in general, just the government, mainly because the old dudes think no one else knows anything and that they are the best at deciding what is right for the people they represent.
Actually, America in general REALLY hates smart people. This is how those old dudes got into power. This is also why McCain/Palin was considered a viable ticket, Why Bush got elected (Among other things, Gore was deemed too intellectual), why Bachmann was considered viable for even a milisecond, etc.

Intelligence is bad. We carry our high school mentality of "NEEEEEEEEEEEEERDS!" Into the voting booth and shit on people whose IQ is higher than their shoe size.

Even Kerry was "too intellectual," and he wasn't even particularly BRIGHT! Our criteria for "too smart" is "can find Canadia on the map. And misspells it as 'Canada.'"[/quote]I don't really think its a hate for intellect, but rather the American people being so ignorant that the race becomes less about how good a person actually would be at being president and more about how well they can talk. See: How Obama got elected.

Slight problem with that: Not only does it ignore most of the examples I gave, but it ignores the context of Obama's election. For the initial portion of Obama's post-nomination run, he was in a tight race with McCain and was starting to slip before the proverbial shit hit the fan. When the economy got fucked up, McCain (and by extension, the Bush Administration and their policies) got a big "fuck you." Obama was elected, in no small part, due to the "fuck Bush" sentiment especially in the wake of actual economic outcomes of Bush-era policies.

They tried to push Obama as one of those intellectual elitists, and it was FREAKING WORKING.

Unfortunately, we have the collective attention span of goldfish, and a good chunk of the public has decided that the solution to the economy not being magically repaired is to both vote for the people who were stonewalling progress and vote for the people who championed the policies that fucked us in the first place. So the "fuck you" vote swings both ways. Buuuuut I digress.

We are, broadly speaking, both reactionary and anti-intellect.

this is not sensible, and everyone who even considers this bill, should play in an active volcano. Land of the Free my right bumcheek.

Why does everyone get all upset over the BEST FRIGGING THING EVER? Wikipedia will be banned( or at least loads of it), and google will probably be partially banned too.. Music, 4chan, movies, silly gaming videos, everything will be gone. How long will it take before people start to die because we will not agree with this retardism? We'll have a revolution!

After years these bastards will die out, and it will be reverted anyway! what's the bloody point of trying!

No luck their either mate, the internet will be just as fucked and they're shutting down the hash bars soon.

It horrifies me that not only is this bill being considered but that I'm being fucked by politicians from another fucking country. This isn't my goverement, I didn't vote for any of these peoples, but me and many people who use the internet everyday outside the US are going be effected by this if it passes, one way or another.

Do you know how much America hates people who know things?
Only when they aren't in the Private Sector, making money for the suits.

I'm fairly certain that all of our genuinely smart people have already calculated how futile it is to even bother, and are just trying to find a way to leverage their talents before the inevitable collapse of American society.

Behold the collapse of Rome! Now pass the SOPA sapa!
They are going to recruit Pompey to fight the pirates! And then Ceaser and pompey with take over the republic. All in the name of fighting piracy
