Hm, I wonder what Ron Paul would vote on this...

Oh, yes, that's right, he'd vote no, because the federal government doesn't have the legal authority to pass legislation like this.

Ron Paul is too nice and logical to be a republican, too grounded in reality to be a liberal and too honest to pretend to sell out and then switch course once elected, he will never be president.

Damn this bipartisan society we live in.

This. Even though people are being kinda crazy about him right now, it makes sense why. I never really cared about american politics until i heard about Dr. Paul. Im Canadian and i understand that he is not only the best thing for America, hes what america NEEDS right now.

Im willing to put up with his avid supporters as long as he wins the nomination.

But it's only being censored in America, right? So I have nohing to worry about?
Sad to say, but yes, you have MUCH to worry about. Youtube, Google, Wikipedia, The Escapist, Facebook, and a lot of other major (And minor) American sites are in an extremely huge risk of getting shut down permanently across the globe. They shut it down there, they shut it down everywhere. BUT, I will say BUT, they can NOT shut down foreign sites OUTSIDE of America. All European, Asian, Australian, Canadian and African origined(A word?) sites are safe. Maybe south American sites, Mexico, and some other countries may be safe too. The only problem is that all the best sites are American... So if it ever gets passed... Welp, say goodbye too everything you like about the Interwebs.

it,s like watching a bunch of mentally challenged people trying to operate a highly complicated nuclear power plant.

I honestly doubt ANY of the people backing this bill touched anything more complicated then a mechanical type writer.
Hey, it's rude to insult the mentally handicapped. >:|

listen to the guy, he says that whatevers going down they won't pay to protect pornographers, which means our porn is at least safe.
Problem: Do you really want to add DRM to Porn? They're losing FAR more money than the software companies to pirates. SOPA would actually help keep legitimate porn actors in business while "legitimizing it". Of course, it would take billions out of SOPA's funds but...

"If I had a dime for every time someone in the hearing used the phrase "I'm not a nerd" or "I'm no tech expert, but they tell me..." I'd have a large number of dimes and still feel intensely worried about the future of the uncensored Internet." The main backer of the bill openly confessed several times he didn't understand how the internet works, yet he acted like all the internet engineers opposing the bill were "wrong".
This is why I fucking hate politics and even democracy in general, because it's all about the most popular people making decisions instead of the most knowledgeable.

It pains me to, say, see people who have zero hands-on experience in the field of education make extremely important decisions about the future of education in our country. Or the internet, in the case of SOPA.
Just saying, this is a republic.
A true democracy would have us voting on bills.

If this gets passed, then the americans need to overthrow their government as it no longer has their best interests in mind anymore. Only the cooporations that own sweat shops in other countries or who won't tolerate anybody saying anything bad about their company at ALL and cheat taxes by opening fake headquarters in other countries will have power. The american citizens will be puppets on their strings.

I don't know about you, but if that came down I would rebel. And NOT peacefully. Infact I would go so far as to say it would be your DUTY as a citizen to overthrow your government.

Heads up, there's now a "We the people" petition on Whitehouse.gov.

https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions/!/petition/veto-sopa-bill-and-any-other-future-bills-threaten-diminish-free-flow-information/g3W1BscR

Just throwing that out there. Non-US people can use this: http://americancensorship.org/modal/state-dept-petition/index.html posted it before but most people will just jump to the latest posts and miss it. There's also this [http://www.avaaz.org/en/save_the_internet/?wRhYocb] at avaaz.org.

Thanks for that, as a canadian I figured there was nothing I could do till it happened. Seriously, once the internet gets censored it will get much, MUCH worse. Corporate power will literally go out of control and the government will do nothing because their pockets will be lined with money. SOPA is the first step to the loss of freedom. It won't stop there!

If they could they would charge us 25 to 50% of our wages for FRESH WATER! they've done it in other countries!

Or it will inspire a tech rennaisance in countries that aren't the U.S. as they attempt to rebuild what we had. I gotta get the hell out of this country though. The totalitarian/authoritarian regime change is coming and it's getting too big to stop. Wrapped in American Flags and waving a cross, Facism has landed in the united states.

Regardless whether this gets passed or not, America you need to do something. This has just made something that was already known blatently obvious, corporations and money run your country. Do something about it.
Heh, it'd be nice if this finally sparked people to go crazy and change shit. Of course, they should have already done this with NDAA, but I'll take what I can get I guess.

Also, this seems considerably less hilarious and a lot more frightening.

Alright, it's still pretty funny. But still. That might be our future.

What is wrong with our government? I need to find another country to live in. I'm open to learning new languages and I'm fine with different cultures. If anyone has any recommendations on where to move I will be more than happy to take them. Not that it will help much if this passes since corporations are trying to extend their reach into other countries where this law doesn't apply.

Sometimes I get really scared about this world.

anywhere in Europe except the eastern part..........they'll love you because your foreign well in the court of human rights "terrorist attack? well its against your human rights to send to jail for that here one million of our money"
