ah korea....does any tragedy occur there that cant easily be linked to video games anymore? next we'll find out north korea has finally declared war after losing to them in starcraft.

then again...actually dying from 12 hours of relative stillness? even if it was regular, he was apparently a perfectly healthy young kid. thats a one in a million shot of something actually lethal happening to him; and in the middle of a public gaming space?

im not suggesting that south korea is the target of anti-gaming puritans assassinating teenagers in ways that can be linked to video games...but...um...yeah i guess i am pretty much suggesting that.

<link=http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/tragic>I don't think tragic means what you think it means.

This is tragic, and your assertion that it isn't means that effectively disconnected from a part that makes you human. Well done.
I think he is just jaded because he spends to much time on the computer.

Anyway for me this is a scary look in the mirror since every saturday me and my brother stay up till 4am.

Might have been said already, but I've binged for more than twelve hours (breaks for eating, drinking, potty). You'd have to be heavily sedated to stay still that long, and not do something that's absolutely necessary for your body. I play way worse when I really need to take a piss, or haven't had my morning coffee, when I'm really hungry. Playing badly += frustration + angst

Can somebody kick Kenko out of this thread, please?

Death is nothing to laugh about. You'll learn that once you've lost a few people dear to you.

OT: I agree with some of the posters above, he must've had a heart condition or something. Or maybe he didn't sleep for a few days before his 12 hour gaming binge, because healthy young men don't just drop dead, even after an excessive gaming session.

sad part is he probably didnt die from the game playing, he had to have had other issues. the news is trying to blame video games. dont get me wrong, video game addiction is very real, ive had my bouts with it but, they are not the root of all evil like the news tries to make them out to be.

and for those saying he died from staying still for to long. military snipers have to stay absolutly stiil for days. one of those if the enemy so much as sees the movement of you breathing you die kind of a thing

While I'm sure this is true, comparing a 19-year-old gamer and a trained military sniper isn't probably the same thing.

I don't believe he died for too long (though the possibility of a DVT is there) but I wouldn't really hold up military snipers as evidence against it. They're not really in the same league as one another :p

granted but most snipers these days are 19 to however old young men. yes admittedly that is a poor comparison but one none the less. my point with it is he didnt just drop dead cause he didnt move for a while

If an article were to say that a man mysteriously passed out and died while riding a bike, would people automatically assume that it was the bike that killed him? For all we know, he could have contracted food poisoning while going out for a bite to eat

Can't balance/control your behaviour regarding gaming? I have no sympathy, I just hope the Game Industry won't get flak for this yet again.

The Korean Times reports [http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2010/12/119_78785.html] that Moon was a habitual visitor to the PC Bang, so it's quite possible that he pushed himself too hard and exhaustion took its toll.
I've heard of athletes doing the same thing and yet I don't hear anyone calling for laws that restrict the practice of sports or sporting events. Strange how that is.
I say if someone fails to exercise a little self-control and dies as a result, consider it natural selection at work. I know that's cold, but I tire of my hobbies being blamed for other people's stupidity.

Yeah I read the title and threw an isnta-wtf. Gotta be oversimplified information. If one marathon was enough to kill you consider me a zombie about 30 times over. Still it's a good reminder. Anything can become dangerous without some restraint. It's too bad that instead of acting as a wakeup call to those who might be in a similair boat, this story will just become tabloid fodder to feed peoples ignorance.
