Id like to add that time is just weird in the warp, it can move faster and slower than real space. So if your stuck in there for a year, you might com back out a week after you got in, or two thousand years later, its any ones guess...

Also, WAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!

*GASP!!* really??! *hyperventilate* AWESOME *stop hyperventilating* sounds like this will be a GoW rip off *sigh dissapointedly* this will be dissapointing.

whilst i love Warhammer, and i think the whole universe (both of them) have been criminally ignored by the video games industry (where the fuck is Warhammer Fantasy: Total War for god sake??! huge map, fasicanting range of units, enormous range of varied factions (fuck off the top of my head i can think of 4 HUMAN races, let alone undead, chaos, orcs etc)) i do believe that any game produced will be a huge let down.

think about it, it will be gears 4 with new uniforms, and if it is it will be a huge let down. i doubt they will capture the feel of the universe at all.

Heretic!

This game will be awesome because the Emperor wills it!

But from watching the trailers I can understand where you're coming from.
Big bulky guy shooting weird looking humanoids.

But like I said...
The Emperor wills this game to be great!

But i guess adding more bits to an existing art asset is easier than creating a totally new non-humanoid model.
It's probably more that Tyranids are a fairly minor faction in the franchise and their unique attributes, the whole hivemind thing, won't really come through in an FPS. Plus there's plenty of FPSes where you shoot HR Giger aliens these days, there's none where you shoot Orks and very few where you fight demonically corrupted soldiers.

I think a lot of writers forget that in 40k humans and especially marines are not the good guys. If anything that would be Elder or Tau.
Soul Drinkers FTW.

And as to the technology thing. My understanding was that 40k Tech was whatever 30k tech has survived the intervening millenia. So Chaos Marines who have experienced less time would actually be better equipped than modern day Adeptus Astartes. As I see it most of the 40k universe is a sort of 'Dark Ages' where-in history is misunderstood (thus the Godhood of the Emperor) and technological advance is shunned (thus the strict adherence to rules that the 'tech priests' follow)

And sometimes Space Marines are just that damn good, thats why they beat the Chaos Marines (See the Space Wolf Omnibus, or even better, The Grey Knight omnibus)

Millenia 2 to Millenia 25 or so I believe is referred to the as the Dark Age of Technology. This is the period of time where mankind expanded into the universe with modern day and highly advanced technology, to colonize the vast majority of the galaxy, basically an age of unchecked scientific progress. M25 to M30 is known as the Age of Strife, when pyskers in the human population abruptly appear and add to the destabilization of human civilization along with massive warp storms that prevent long distance travel, the corruption and rebellion of the android servants humans had once employed (The Men of Iron), and alien incursions. M30 saw the end of the Age of Strife and the rise of the Imperium of Man.

So the majority of Tech was lost during the Age of Strife and in some cases ritualized due to poor understanding. As the Emperor began to reunite humanity into the Imperium he had planned on restoring scientific progress and understanding to those worlds which regressed. The quality of thier weapons and technology wasn't fantastic and since it was right around this time that Horus went traitor and half of the Marines did too, the Chaos weapons and equipment reflect this, as there are many weapons the Imperium has which Chaos is not permitted to field. They make up for the tech disparity with demonic and psychic weaponry though.

So canonically Malal doesn't exist anymore because GW isn't legally allowed to mention his existence - thus, death by lawyers.
There was a work around about that. Read Heroes of the Space Marines short story the Labyrith by Richard Ford.
You're assuming the fellow with the Kharn the Betrayer avatar wasn't already well aware of the awesome Sons of Malice short story in that compilation, and that he doesn't have that volume sitting on his shelf along with practically[footnote]The only ones I'm missing are Jonathan Green's two Black Templar novels and Ian Watson's four novels, and that's because I don't actually want those.[/footnote] every Warhammer 40K novel ever produced? I'm... actually sort of surprised by that.

Anyhow, yes, I know that they've resurrected the concept behind Malal (a god of Chaos that itself hates Chaos) through the renegade Sons of Malice and their particular worldview, but the name itself still goes unused (thanks to those lawyers), and whatever it is that they follow is never explicitly defined as a 5th god of Chaos anywhere. It could just be an exceptionally powerful daemon prince, or something nebulous like Balphomael, the Horned Darkness. We're free to assume that it's the "missing" 5th god of Chaos of course, but as it stands now there is no official word from on high that supports such a conclusion, and canon sticklers like myself will always err on the side of caution in such scenarios.

Only four gods? There's more then that.
True, but those are minor gods of chaos that have, so far, only ever appeared in fiction/background for Warhammer Fantasy. In 40K, they have never been confirmed to exist, and since the two settings are not canonically linked, despite an apparent link via the warp and extent older publications that suggest otherwise, canonically you can only say that there are 4 gods of Chaos (in 40K, which this game is about). The possibility of a lesser deity/power of chaos in 40K is still there of course, it's just that none have ever been explicitly created/mentioned by the folks capable of shaping 40K canon.
True to some extent

There is a fifth major Chaos God who appeared in earlier editions of Warhammer 40,000

* Malal - The Renegade God - God of Anarchy and Nihilism

He's not mentioned much anymore though.
Beaten to it, curses. I once based a Warhammer Roleplay Campaign around Malal. Didn't last long, but his lore is damned interesting.

OT: I'm glad that it's not just Orks, because enticing though that prospect is, it could get dry.

I prefer to think that the 5th God is still out there. It's not that he hated chaos, but was chaos really.
He'd equilly destroy it and the rest for the lulz.

I truely hope GW sort it out, he was really interesting.

Also on a note to the game, I'm still dissapointed it's going to star the Ultramarines.
There's so many to choose from.

It just better not have the Black Legion as the chaos faction, they're everywhere.

I'd like to see some Tau as enemies, trying to play Cover Shooter while you just smash said cover aside and give them what-for. That's probably what the Guard do, but guard have certain close combat units that are reasonably effective against SMurfs. Aside from Farsight, who would be a cool boss, (just as battlesuits would be cool minibosses) the Tau can't go toe to toe against the spess mahreens; even Kroot need to have a significant advantage in points to win against SMurfs in close combat.
