Spike Releases Moderately Perplexing 2010 VGAs Nominee List

I fucking hate game award ceremonies. They're fucking stupid. Just because of the level of whining.

People get into flame wars, insult each other, insult other games and just can't believe that other people don't have the same opinion as them.

There are only two directions that Spike VGA can take in the future that I will allow.

1. People stop treating it less like the Academy Awards of gaming, and more like the MTV Movie Awards of gaming

2. It starts behaving more like the Academy awards of gaming and less like the MTV Movie awards of gaming.

You could tell that they wanted to nominate Halo:Reach for every Category, but couldn't.

Also this list just feels like a random selection of the biggest titles.

Also it would be nice if Spike would realize what a Real Time Strategy (RTS) genre is. watched it for the pass 3 years and never have they ever even mention there is the existence of such a genre in gaming. Be nice if Creative got the space monkey from time to time for their Total war series. You know just saying.

I cannot believe I am going to end up watching this crap just to find out what the hell BioWare's new game is. I really hate the VGAs...okay, they sometimes can get it right, but never entirely right. They've given BioShock and Fallout 3 GOTY, yet I recall Megan Fox getting nominated for her voice-work in something I didn't care about. I am confused. And Seth Green not getting a nomination for his part in ME2 is just mean...and confusing. Why the hell wouldn't these guys want Seth Green to appear on their show? Robot Chicken and Family Guy have made the dude popular as hell. Doubly so among the frat-boy and gamer crowds (respectively, they are not the same crowd...don't misquote me)

Eh...doesn't matter. I honestly hate the entire notion of "Game of the year" anyway...if you liked a game, it was good and worth buying, if not, then it wasn't. Is there really a need to rank games by "how good they are" other than to incite flame wars and endless bickering? I don't see it.

Almost tempted to skip this horrendous show altogether and just wait to see the announcement on the interwebs....but it's BioWare....and I'm really impatient...anyway if Jack Black is hosting again I don't think even a new BioWare game announcement can make me watch this crap again.

EDIT- and why the hate on RDR for it's graphics? The game looked gorgeous, glitches aside. Kirby's Epic Yarn is a tad confusing, though. Oh, and the hate on this year's racing games...why? Blur and Split/second were both pretty damn fun. Oh well, atleast the thread hasn't completely turned into a "bash all the popular games that came out this year" thread...yet.

Why the hell are Halo: Reach and CoD: BO on the GOTY list, but games like Civ 5 and Starcraft II aren't? Halo was aggressively mediocre as always, and BO's only feature that separates it from other, better shooters is that it's set in the Cold War.

100 bucks says one of those games will win game of the year..... they definitely deserve to be on the list, but being on the list means an auto-win for one of them....and I could certainly complain about that.

I'm actually disappointed by the "best original score" nominees more than anything. It seems to me like a throw away category. The 4 that were nominated just happen to be 4 out of the 5 contenders for game of the year. I'd put Kirby's Epic Yarn and Mario Galaxy on that list for sure....at least they have memorable and melodical tunes.

"Best song in a game" doesn't deserve to exist.... seriously.

Kinda weird how they seperated independent and downloadable games.

Little Big Planet 2 and Zelda should be on most anticipated.

Most award shows, whether they are for video games or not, are basically free advertisements. Companies pay award shows advertising money to award their products, thus implanting the want of these products into viewers' minds.

But really? Best song in a game? That's...that's where I draw the line.

How can Black Ops be nominated for overall best GOTY when it's not even nominated for GOTY on any of the platforms that it's available on?

Anyways...Mass Effect 2 has my vote for GOTY and Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light has my vote for D/L GOTY. The rest of this list I don't really care about.

It seems a pretty decent list I reckon, a couple of anomalies but still some good stuff on there. You understand that just because an award show says its better, doesn't mean it is better.

In the topic of Best Action-Adventure Game, it's gonna get a little confusing if they start dividing all games into their respective genres. Sure, Mario Galaxy and GOW 3 may not be that similar, but I don't believe Spike wants to create seperate categories for hack-n-slash and platformer games.

Then again, is anyone going to even watch this? I made the unfortunate mistake of watching this the first year, and I found it to be awful. It's just as bad as the MTV awards and GPhoria. If you, like me, want to see the del Toro game or Bioware's reveal, then just Youtube that shit after the show.

Demon's Souls should have been on best multiplayer game. WTF is with all these FPS games on there? Have they never played any other kind of game multiplayer?(though i have always like halo's multiplayer)
Why the fuck FF13 isn't on the "Best Graphics" list is beyond me. Regardless of how much i hate that game, it was really shiny.

How can BlOps be nominated for GOTY, and not get nominated as Best 360/PS3 Game? You can just see Kotick writing the check to Spike for that award.
