ALL of the "best soundtrack" nominees are guitar hero rip offs and most of the "best song" nominees are songs from mainstream artists. These shouldn't fucking count because the game makers didn't make the song, or hire people to make it. It wasn't made for the fucking game, they just threw it in to get more money. What a fat load of bullshit. When was the last time a music category had a single game that wasn't Guitar Hero or Rock Band or similar? 3 years or more? I fucking hate television..

Well it is spike even a holographic stripper can't overcome their need to give GOTY to something that involves sticking a gun in somethings face. Or ripping out its intestines with your bare hands.

Ummm, how can Donkey Kong Country Returns even be nominated when it hasn't been released yet. Spike you are idiots.

It strikes me as just another bloody popularity contest. Media lost the taste for quality a long time ago. "Nothing to see here, move along."

Nice to to see Jennifer Hale on the Acting nominees, I thought they only pick famous people rather then non-mainstream voice actors. But these are fan voted to its a gauge of the mainstream opinion, so really these come down to what sold the best quite often, thats why megan fox won best actress last year. Yeah these awards mean nothing but the established status-qo.

How the hell is Fable 3 nominated for Best Xbox Game? But I expect Mass Effect 2 to at least sweep the RPG category.
And as for GOTY, just look at the metacritic scores for those games. ME2 has the highest one out of all of them.

Out of the "Game of the Year" nominees, I only played one. And mind you, it wasn't for lack of trying, only Mass Effect 2 was (properly) released on the PC. Yes, I know Black Ops was as well, but from what I understand, New Vegas was in better shape on release day than the PC version of Black Ops.

Basically, I am now utterly convinced that I'm not a part of the gaming mainstream. I'm not sure if that's good or bad...

I wouldn't be surprised if Mass Effect 2 swept the awards, I hope it does. It better. Better not be a sham award like when Fable 2 won game of the year. The only 2 contenders for game of the year are Mass Effect 2 and Red Dead Redemption, but honestly, I won't be surprised when blackops wins...

Is anyone else surprised that Bioshock 2 is nominated for anything?

Music games shouldn't be included for the best soundtrack or song, it's not fair, unless the song in question was actually made for that game.

Seeing this list makes me think about some of those Extra Credits episodes relating to games actually progressing as a medium/art form. Award shows like this certainly don't help anything. None of the games nominated for GotY have *anything* progressive in them, except maybe for Red Dead Redemption (I haven't played that one). Its all basically shooter/action rehashes that we've seen for almost 10 years now.

This really is just the best thing on here. Had me laughing at the GotY... though knowing Spike... crap now, it's no longer humor, now it's dread.

Their credibility is shot. Nominating games that aren't out yet. Nominating Super Scribblenauts for anything. And then they went and nominated something that contains Rihanna. These guys obviously wouldn't know good taste if it bit them in the ass.

Black Ops was released 9th November, that was under a month ago.
how the hell does a game that is under a month old get put on the Game of the Year list?
oh wait, Call of Duty. my mistake, wouldn't be a GoTY list without the regulation CoD humping.

Portal 2 should win the Most Anticipated Game award, but it won't, Gears 3 will win it, and it will probably be by a landslide. sigh.

and it's a real shame (heck, it's a real surprise) not to see Pokemon Soul Silver/Heart Gold on the Handheld game of the year list, i mean, Pokemon is the most well known handheld game of all time.
