Square-Enix Isn't Sure Where to Take Final Fantasy

They'll find something. At least Final Fantasy is a series that takes each game in a new direction. Maybe not entirely new direction, but a new direction nonetheless. I do quite enjoy that.

Maybe they should stop with FF for awhile and try making some different types of games. This is coming from a big Final Fantasy fan, too. I haven't played 13 yet, because it didn't look very good. I was disappointed with 12 and eleven, and 10 wasn't so bad, but definitely not the best. Honestly, the best Final Fantasy was 6. It had likable characters and a relatively open world.

Hey, there's the problem. The games turned to shit as soon as the took out the world map. Alright, granted that's not the only problem, but it might be one of them. They took out the element of freedom. You used to be able to detract from teh main quest at almost any given time to do side quests, but there is very little of that anymore.

Take it around the back of the shed with a shotgun.

Just let it die, we all have good memories and our favorites, dont ruin them with more shit like FF 13...

First I didn't think 13 was the worse. Also Square should go back to the roots make some Final Fantasy's with the same battle style(s) as the older generation ones and with castles and knight and try to avoid the whole 'future' design.

I have an idea.

How about taking out behind the woodshed and putting it out of its misery.

Overrated linear progression Menu simulator.

Sounds like as good a time as any to just make a new series. Final fantasy went far but this one is the wall. And not in a good way. it could have turned into a really good marvel of writing and character development. Ya know like say the pixar of rpgs. But it never really was that after 7. the graphics evolved. the combat evovled. But the writing didn't. It just kept trying to reinvent itself over and over and now it's ran out of steam apparantly. As good as the series was they should probably close it down and just do something completely new. Get some new blood. Go really out of there comfort zone. and really reinvent the jrpg to where it actually makes western rpgs look equal or weaker in terms of storytelling.

Or just remake final fantasy 7.

I'll admit, I'm bias with this kinda thing, my favorite Final Fantasy games were 5,6,7 and Tactics, the rest I either hated or have yet to get into the remakes. (8-13 I hated for the record). So I think Final Fantasy as a series should stay more traditional, it's nice to see a game evolve sure but drastic changes call for a title change in my mind.

However other titles like Kingdom Hearts is just a big pile of fanservice that fail in their attempt to make something storywise happen in a sane manner. Especially when a 10 year old with a key can beat a man with a giant sword and who basically killed a God. Then again you have these people interacting with Cartoon characters, most of them have taken a mallet to the skull and are no worse off so continuity goes out the window in favor of fan service, which just bores and annoys the crap out of me. Maybe that's just me, maybe I'm the one who's just not seeing brilliance, in anycase I'd be happy to never see another one again...at least in my room, not going to wish doom on a series that has a lot of fans. ...Doom on you Kingdom Hearts, doom on you if you enter my house...fnar fnar.

Trying to revamp the FF whole series would be a big change and I feel that if you're going to change something drastically, call it something different. All Final Fantasies are similar, but going all out

I'm with the crowd that says take it to the rubbish bin or elaborate tomb in some gamers' perspectives. I seem to recall that years ago Squeenix said that FF14 would be the last one. I guess being a corporation means that decision was scrubbed in favor of running it into the ground (or in this case picking it up off it's face) like it's western counterparts do with it's franchises.

Sigh, oh well.

Also ninja'd. :)

Here's an idea.. make another 2D final fantasy =) REMAKE 6 with HD Sprites, haha. Nothing 3D...

Or honestly, they should just stop making FF games. I tire of them.

To those saying it should just burn in Hell, shut the fuck up. Just because YOU don't like the series, doesn't mean others who DO can't enjoy it in peace.. Asswipes..

Anyway, it's a shame Square Enix has come to this point.. They deserve praise for their writing and musical expertise! However, I'm sure a new IP can't hurt, something similar, but branching off to try out stuff. I honestly think pandering to Americans is pointless and stupid. You people don't know WHAT you want. Always complaining..

However, as an above poster stated, a Terranigma 2 title would be FUCKING EPIC! That,or SE's property, Taito, should make a good quality Lufia game like Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals was.. That'd be nice.

I'm actually playing FF XIII right now (Finally got a copy of it). The story is...a bit hard to follow. It's like walking into a movie halfway through, and the combat is, somehow, worse than FF XII. At least in FF XII, they did it all themselves, but in this game, I'm relegated to being George Jetson. It's now my job to push the button to make them go, and that's it. Just one button to play the whole game. I'm rather bored with it already.

I miss the older final fantasys, VII through X-2(Cause I haen't played any before VII), where I actually participated in the battles.

As a long time fan it hurts me to say this but... If they are really out of ideas maybe it is time to put the series to bed at long last... at least the core numbered series. They tried re-inventing the series, twice now, and both have been somewhat poorly received. The MMO versions aren't that amazingly popular and well, they can keep making spinoffs and remakes till the cows come home for all I care.

I would like to see a grand old send off title though, a nostalgic love letter to the series to send it off well.

And no, I thought the gaming fanbase was over boring turn based tripe! I didn't mind the previous games but random battle/encounters should NEVER return, completely revamp the whole battle concept. I don't exactly enjoy real-time action much, but XIII had a neat blend, whereas XII played itself if you programmer it to..

Hmm... Where is Final Fantasy suppose to go... Less fucking sci-fi/Anime bullcrap and more actual fantasy, please. And proper storytelling, too. No more footnote menus.

During my time with Final Fantasy XIII, I liked the combat, even though it felt demeaning to constantly push one button more times than your generic action-brawler/slasher. But it's the ridiculous plot, unlikable characters and piss-poor storytelling that killed the game for me.
