You guys this is serious, he needs that $1600 to afford the operation to get that stick removed from his ass! It's pretty far up there.

Maybe he just wants to make a career out of this. He figures he'll be be more likely to win a small lawsuit that's so small that the company wont care about it, and then as he states "it will establish a precedent allowing us to sue others - we will be able to strike a great blow against foreign companies who think they can insult China" if that holds true he'll be able to then go after a different company for more money and theoretically use presidency to win the case.

It would make more sense if he tried to sue them because the game was so atrocious. Now that I'd call setting a precedent :)

Sueing game companies for offending your race? Haha, good luck with that.

Checked it out after you mentioned this. Found out the hard way that you weren't exaggerating. How does a porn site suffer from a severe porn infestation though?

Im sure companies outside of China will take as much notice of this legal threat as China do with international IP laws!

While this is a dumb lawsuit, I'm all for making sure KaL2 never sees the light of day again. Therefore, I'm all for the lawsuit!

Are there even any charges? If this is true, then it is so stupid that I can't come up with any kind of metaphor to accurately convey how stupid I think it is. Dear god. This is much worse than the Resident Evil 5 controversy. That was completely legitimate compared to this.

Seriously. At least there we have a historical context of Africans being depicted as animalistic savages by European and American writers over the last couple of centuries. At least there you can look at screenshots of the game and say "gee, this reminds me of the horrible racist shit people were making two hundred years ago" without it being completely absurd.

Even if you disagree with that assessment (and for the record, I do), there is a valid argument to be made for it. You can weigh the sides, listen to the people involved, compare it to other works, etc. This is just dumb. China has their Jack Thompsons too, I guess.

China is pretty much the most backwards, tyrannically ruled bomb of a first world country. Poverty is common place, the rich rape the people for all their worth and the "government" goes to great lengths to murder silence and arrest anyone who speaks up. They have the highest ratio of executions of any country on Earth and an utter joke of a criminal justice system, all but ensuring innocent people and anyone the government doesn't like go missing or have their head blown off on a daily basis. They give new meaning to the term political prisoner. Nothing that comes from that country surprises me.

And and I'd well bet China is one of the more racist and xenophobic nations of people on Earth as well--irony.
Hey there. Have you lived in China? I'm guessing your opinions have been harvested from years of travelling experience, am I right?

If not, you're just regurgitating what you've seen/heard from media outlets or forums. Fun fact: replace every word that says "China" in your post with "America" and you'd have billions of people agree with you.

One thing I agree with in your post... the racist part. Been living here in China for 7 years now... and yes, they are racist, but not in the red-neck, KKK, NF kind of way. More-or-a them vs us way.

If by traveling you mean staying in China, yes, you are right. Their "government" is a joke and it's no myth that people "go missing" or see themselves thrown in prison, even being executed, for speaking out against the horrendous political system. No small wonder their execution ratios are gob-smackingly shocking, with some five thousand citizen's executed last year, a ratio higher than any other country on Earth, bar one--a third world country in Africa. China puts to death in the order of thirteen people a day, a whopping thirty seven people per ten million citizens. For some perspective, the U.S. executes about one person per ten million.

The country is a travesty.

I think it would be awesome if they set the next bland shooter in Norway, or even Bergen. I don't know why X3, it just sounds like something I'd buy just because it was set in my town Oo. And one must admit, it WOULD be a nice change of scenery from New York and Iraq, wouldn't it? Some nice north-European wooded areas and many wooden houses in varying shapes and sizes. Not to mention Bergen's impossibly confusing road network!

If he wins this case and uses it as a 'precedent' to sue other companies or countries for insulting the glory of China, I would not be surprised whatsoever if Microsoft or the guys behind Civilization got a lawsuit for including the option for their great and noble civilization to be pounded into the dust.

*points to every single army shooter* And these get a pass?
*points the the Modern Warfare games* THESE! Get a pass?

but satirical joking aside, I was waiting for this to resurface. This is a country who banned Football Manager (cannot remember what year) simply because it recognised Tibet as an independent country.

What does his nationality has to do with anything? Let's see, an overzealous Chinese nationalist attempts to sue Square Enix, and somehow he is reflective of every 1.34 billion Chinese citizens? This lawyer guy is no more representative of the Chinese that Jack Thompson being representative of Americans. Chinese nationalists like him are commonly referred to "fenqing" (angry youth), and are commonly mocked amongst Chinese society, while foreign products from Korea and Japan, such as TV dramas and anime are frequently consumed amongst the Chinese populace. With everything said, your ethnocentrism is disgusting, don't complain about media bias against gamers when you're doing the same to people of other nationalities.

And yes I'm Chinese from the PRC, and I can safely say that you're full of it. Most Chinese people are far more concerned with getting on with their lives/getting rich rather then caring about the government, and contray to popular Western portrayal, China isn't Nazi Germany or North Korea where everyone get evesdropped, nor citizens get arrested or killed for simply disliking the President or Premier. The Chinese political system is rather decentralized, with many provincial and county governments making their own policies. At least in major cities, government regulation is virtually non-existant, including those on social services, healthcare, and businesses, while very few taxes exist. Virtually anyone can set up their business with very little permits required, and I've seen police beating up criminals in the streets and letting them go because locking them up wastes money. Frankly, the PRC government really don't give a damn about what you or anyone think about them unless you actively call for political change in ways that embarasses the government.
