Black Kingpin always struck me an eensy bit racist. It's like, 'hey, he's a criminal, right! Of course he should be black!'. A black spiderman would be pretty neat, I think, giving someone new the role might inspire them to stray away at least slightly from the Peter-parker whiny whiny goody goody that the first three movies were about. Really, with what spider man used to be about(Before all this Ultimates B.S.) it does not seem strange at all for him to have been an African-American.

I was kind of hoping for Kang as the Avengers villain. If marvel, god forbid, wanted to skip the ice, then they could have Cap get taken by Kang to the modern era.
One thing I hate about Kang-Red Centurion. It's Kang, but Kang in the future before he goes back to be Kang, but Red always works besides Kang and is Kang's most trusted aid, but Red doesn't know that he will become Kang until he goes back in time. It never failed to confuse me, which is why I really don't want him in the movies yet. Plus, didn't he first show up in a FF giant size and was helped by Dr. Doom? I thought he did, because his machine broke and he was King Tut.
Iron man 3 is coming out after Avengers. Ant/Giant Man and the Wasp were original Avengers, so I really want them to show up in the Avengers movie. Avengers 2 might add Black Panther, Vision, etc. and that would be a good time to add in Ultron.
Ultron would be a cool villain though.
Dr. Strange already got a movie, albeit it was an animated one. A freaking awesome animated one though.

The Pyms are founding Avengers, but I doubt they'll be in it. I think they've released a roster and they're not in it, I believe. I don't fully remember.

I don't fully know who Red Centurion is and what you said seemed very confusing. I don't know too much about Avengers lore, just some of the bigger stuff. I do know that, generally speaking, Kang is an Avengers villain. Just like Wolverine is essentially an X-man when he first showed up as a Hulk villain. I'm not sure how the whole thing works for the individual production companies (fox owns FF, right?) but I believe Kane is an Avengers thing.

And I'm talking live action movies. There have been talks about a bunch of lesser-known characters getting lower-budget films, Dr. Strange and Luke Cage among them. I can see Black Panther getting his own movie, he's a pretty cool character, and if it sells well getting him shoehorned into an Avengers sequel, maybe even replacing Captain America if, for some reason, the actor can't do it anymore. Having a fallback position like that would be good, since actor mortality is an issue.

Vision would be slightly more difficult, since he's Ultron tech. That's kind of why I want Ultron to be an Iron Man villain at first. Ultron moves on to bigger and badder things by bringing the Vision in in the Avengers movie and we have the movie adaptation of an awesome character.

Vision comes in and there's a minor correlation with the Young Avengers, the universe expands even more, but both kind of need Wanda to be in it in order to get the full success, which means they'd need the X-men franchise, which means Fox is irritating me.

At least Spider-man doesn't become a major issue so far as Avengers stories go. So long as Sony doesn't fuck it up, he's in a good position where he is. Would prefer if he'd become an Avenger, but he seems to be in a good position.

Which brings it full circle to "Sony better not fuck it up by taking creative liberties with the character."

White people need heroes too.
List of white super heroes:

Wonder Woman, Donna Troy, Cassanda Sandmark, Sara Pezzini, The three Flashes, A few green Lanterns, Batman and all of his side-kicks, Pretty much all of the x-men save for like three that I can think of (there's probably more), Jackie Estacado, Danielle Baptiste, Fray... and a whole lot more.

White people have a lot of super heroes, and a lot of flagship/mascot heroes. The argument that white people need heroes as well is totally invalid since most of the heroes out there are white. I have yet to see a flagship/mascot character for any comic company be anything but white. Yes I know storm is a very popular X-men, but she's still not a mascot for Marvel, if anything it would be Spiderman/Scott Summers/Capt America.

If you really want to argue wether or not Peter should be black, use arguments that include his background rather then white people need heroes as well.
It's funny how you're using an opinion to enhance your argument and now I am going to use an argument to enhance my opinion.

Anyway, here it goes:

First thoughts: I would be interested in knowing the major target demographic that purchased comics and whether that had an effect on the decision made in the original posts detailings, as well as the demographic of the writers/artists of comic books. I think that would give a lot of information to this discussion.

Here are the thoughts behind my previous statement, presented in a pleasing Sir Patrick Stewart type voice so as not to raise the umbrage of people with limited perspectives:

Consider the implications of 'multiculturialising' superheroes for the ethnic groups involved. Wouldn't it be better to have new, unique heroes that could develop a story of their own, rather than adjusting a product to fill a niche? I can understand rebooting a concept, but this isn't rebooting a concept, it's a weak attempt at multiculturalism with no depth. Changing the actor playing a character in a movie isn't representative or a 'success for change', in my opinion. Why not just call him 'token-black-man'?

What about the precedent it sets?

Superheroes represent societal values which are inherent in their character, whether they struggle for justice or the defense of rights. Take Magneto for example, and his background history and tragic past. Religion and race make up aspects that form the basis of that character.

By altering a character culturally, a different set of social issues are brought into light. The kind of depth that a successful new character could reach in targeting people who relate to those cultural issues could be significant if the change was going into developing something significant and worthwhile for all involved.

Final note: Just in case that wasn't clear, what I am saying is that for everyone involved, I'd like to see more effort put into creating new and valid superheroes for under-represented ethnicities, rather than just changing actors to please a different demographic.

I hope this post has met your high moral and professional standards. :p

I could care less what they do with the new spider man movie, they lost my vote the minute they scrapped good ol' Sam Raimi.

I like Beast being a gorilla-man thing instead of a humanoid cat creature.
Oddly enough, I think that was the best thing to happen to him. He looks like less of a fratboy toolbox now. Or just less of a retarded guy with bone crushing hands.

Edit: Moderately related.... Did anyone mention the part about The Punisher randomly becoming black for several issues? That was always interesting.
Yep, mentioned that.
I also mentioned why they're rebooting but no one seems to have noticed.

I say give the man his audition ignore his race. Since race in and of itself is a pretty weakass concept. People are pretty influenced by the media. A well written well acted spiderman is going to get watched, people might make some silly jokes about him being black this time around(guilty as charged) but a great onscreen performance will be just that. Hell if anythings a problem its that Peter Parker is a white ass sounding name. Just need to cast a black actor as either Aunt May or Uncle Owen. In horror movie tradition you could go with Owen since he'll be the first to die in the movie.

Females have voiced male characters, in olden times males played the female characters(which was actually a problem since the females were not allowed in theater but... just saying). I think if Media can start ignoring race the masses are soon to follow. I think the issue that's gonna be the problem is at his audtion. He might give a great read but no one in the rooms gonna be able to shake the fealing "he doesn't look like spiderman". Then again maybe not. Black Lex Luthor was a boss in Justice League, certainly my favorite villain, even though I had always known him as a white character... wait something just hit me.

If spiderman is black you can cast Morgan Freeman as Uncle Owen... this debate just ended. Black Spidey for the win.

Changing a major character's aspects (in this case, skin color and race) would end up very...akward. They should stick to the caucasian spider man.

I've already got a firm image in my mind of Spiderman being a small nerdy white guy. Suddenly changing skin colour would be really weird D:

The very idea is ridiculous. Spider-Man is white. Period.

Would people be cool with a new X-Men movie that made Storm white? No. The fans would be pissed because STORM ISN'T WHITE, and the political-correctness brigade would be pissed because "that's racist!". How is a black Spider-Man any more acceptable than a white Storm?

Spidey has like 1000 years of history. I grew up with his red-blue suit n nerdy white face....
Nick Fury and KingPin...great choices...but as Stan Lee said..they are not so main stream..Spidey is an icon and well...its gona be rly weird for every fan and person who is familiar with him.
Even if its Will Smith id refuse to back something liek taht up...somethings you dont mess with!

p.p: and i RYL LOVE WILL just to point out! ^^

I love Donald Glover... but this doesn't make any sense. It's like if they were making a World War II documentary and Hitler was Asian. I don't care how good of an actor they are, that doesn't make much sense.

I want Aaron Johnson. Not only is he a good actor but he fits the part perfectly. Could lead to type casting in the future though.

I think its really dumb how hard they try to eliminate all these racial boundaries. If ya ask me, I honestly think this is not going to make a bloody difference.
