I'll watch it later, but didn't they actually cover the issue in the expanded canon? I actually remember it in a series of books about Han, which basically leads up to "A New Hope."

Han's former girlfriend of the time was one of the people who died to get the Death Star plans to the Rebel alliance.

yes they explained it in those books....and yes the video is very off from the books, but it's a great video non the less
